Someone said the actors played their own instruments - they were coached by Peter Frampton (who wrote some of the songs), but Mike McReady of Pearl Jam played lead guitar and Nancy Wilson (Cameron Crowe's wife) played rhythm and co-wrote some of the songs with Crowe. And someone named Marti Frederickson did lead vocals(I don't know who he is).
