Jimmy Hendrix was once asked "what is it like to be the greatest guitarist in the world?" Hendrix answered, "I don't know, you'll have to ask Phil Keaggy"
@YanmingYuMusic Tell me then, what real good will it do? Secular music is usually written by non-Christians, who are under the influence of satan, so most all secular music IS demonically inspired!
@joel10000a When I listen to music it just makes me feel better in general, even non-religious music has positive messages in them. Why does music have to worship the lord to mean something? I've written crappy guitar instrumentals but I'm not influenced by satan and I don't believe that most secular music is influenced by satan. I totally respect your opinion and I hope you respect mine too :)
@YanmingYuMusic I think of it this way - only truly Born Again people have a spiritual union with God, so this means that all non-Christians are much more under the influence of satan, because satan OWNS the rights to their human spirits! The only thing that keeps ALL unsaved people from being demons possessed, is their individual will power! Some unsaved people have more will power in other at resisting satan, and EVERYONE's will power to resist satan is lowered when we get high or drunk!
@YanmingYuMusic So my logic follows that unsaved people who write music and lyrics are influenced by satan in their writings to one degree or another - including ALL types of music. Does that make sense?
I saw phil open up for Cheryl bliss and it was astonishing. And in the audience was almost ever big time austin musicians where there (Eric johnson was on the road) double trouble was there, David grissom was there, Van Wilks was there, members of alseep at the wheel was threr, the musician know that he is one of the greatest artist
I saw Phil play a solo acoustic set at the Greenbelt Festival (UK) in August 1991, and it is still the single most astonishing live gig I have ever attended in my life. You could tell the guitarists in the audience by the dropped jaws! I also had an album signed by him at a signing session shortly afterwards, and a nicer fellow you couldn't hope to meet. So happy he's still playing - please come to England again, Phil! :-)
Phil will actually say that it was a humor about Hendrix saying that he was the best! That humor has floated around since the 70's. Never actually happened.
Phil thinks that Hendrix may have called him the "shortest" guitarist in the world. But not the best; hendrix died a few years before PK when to Electic Ladyland. But, Ted Nugent's comment that he could "save the world" with his guitar is true!
Let it be known that I Mellowtribe say that as I listen to Phil he is a great guitar player. Go on tell em mellowtribe said this and if they do not believe you show them my words on youtube:)
I have had the amazing privelege to play and jam with Phil in concert, and I must say he is one of the greatest men I have ever met, as a musician and as a Christian. I can honestly say, at the age of 22, I could have no greater honor the rest of my natural life!
sounds good, and i always wanted it to be true, but check out "snopes" urban legends site and you'll find this never occured. But, why do we think Keaggy need Hendrix compliment in the first place!
I landed here from an Andy McKee video comment. Thank God players like this are here. A group of corporate relics ends up with a plate in the bogus Rock n roll hall of fame. The talents we see here ought to be recognized in the same magnitutude but with the focus on their honesty and talent. So then, Music is a river flowing towards ones' belief into the creator of all things.
Great comment stampedehero. Phil IS quite simply one of the very best players I have ever heard. And believe me, I've heard A LOT. Now that you've found him, please check him out more. He's got a great back catalogue. K (P.S. Funny thing is, I stumbled across Andy McKee through a PK video, and I've liked HIM ever since. Hope you do the same with Phil!!)
Phil is by far the best guitarist on the planet. He has mastered so many styles. What a blessing he is. He continues to bless me and my family. Shalom.
I have been an fan of PK's for over 28 yrs now and I have spoken with him on at least 10 occasions after his concerts. He is as great a man as a guitarist, his attitude toward God, people, music, family and life in general are very uplifting, positive and very consistant. He reflects all of the limelight back to it's source....the Father.
You made all the right choices Phil. How much fame does anyone need anyway? You have been and still are a blessing and inspiration to countless lives. Keep rockin Bro!

I sat 50 ft. away from him at a concert. He blew me away. That experience topped the Clapton concert I attended 6 months before that.

"Do not envy" is an explicit commandment. However, also as a 22-year-old musician, I am jealous of you. lol!
