  • Nice series thanks for up loading

  • I didn't know Dick Cheney canceled the Super Tomcat. What a shame. He must've had stock in the F/A 18...

  • I wish this was on DVD

  • @brera011 it's Dick Cheney's who killed the f-14!!! When he was Sec. Of Def. He killed the SuperTomCat upgrade...

  • I know this isnt a movie and i know some ppl cringe when i mention top gun BUT i think it's partialy because of the wonderfull aircraft of the time, the F14 in particular that a movie made in 1986 using planed made in the 70's is STILL the best fighter plane movie ever made. Nothing since then has topped it.

  • F-14 TOMCAT WILL BE ALWAYS THE BEST FIGHTER JET, I LOVE IT

  • I don't know if anyone notice, but the music is really cool in this video. Very typical 80's synthesizer music.

  • No matter what we can say the Tomcat Is history now. But she was a proud aircraft and undoubtedly the most beautiful. Thank you so much for uploading this terrific documentary

  • Who protects the carriers now? Aren't they vulnerable with the tomcat gone? Doesn't seem well thought out.

  • @BetterThanToast Mainly F/A 18

  • @BetterThanToast F-18 Superhornet directly took the spot with regular hornets mixed in.

  • my good friend worked on tomcats in the late 90s on the Carl Vinson. He said they were always broken down and a pain in the ass to work on. Hence the superhornet...

  • @ramoer Being easy to maintinance isn't worth getting the carrier sunk because the fleet no longer has a dedicated Fighter/Interceptor

  • I LOVE THE F-14 & THE BOEING 747

  • Man, that is one very cheesy soundtrack ...whoa.

  • I still wonder why the US have abandonded the F14, aircraft from the same era, like F15 and F16. These have been upgraded and are still flying today. I know the F14 had some modifications as well, but these turned the F14 in to a better ground attacker like the Bombcat, a role the F14 was never designed for. Nothing wrong with the Hornet and Super Hornet, but can they compete the performance of the Tomcat? I doubt it.

  • Well now I know where to go if I want to find the f-ing experts who know every g-dd-mn thing about fighter planes. And it sounds like you boys all flew these planes in the war too. Riddle me this, fighter jocks: who's gonna design the future warplanes for the USA? All the Chinese grad. students in our engineering programs? Cheney blew our wad with his wars. We ain't got the money to send our future engineers to kindergarten.

  • from what i know the f-14 could reach speeds up to mach 2,4 thats about 2300 +/- kilometers pr hour :D and its radar is still one of the best you can ever find in a jet fighter..its sad to see them ground tomcat its my idol of all fighter jets none can compete with it not even f-22 or f-35 and definetly not the f-18 d super hornet..the navy should have upgraded the f-14 instead of replacing it with the f-18

  • @BadTim28 Yes we all agree there, upgrade it, f the F18!

  • @METROPLEX123

the f4 is still in service, at the 71st fighter squadron "Richthofen" in Wittmund/Germany.

it's a modified version of the f4e, it has got for ex. the aim120.

  • I would like to know the name of the theme they use at the beginning and end and who recorded it.

  • f14 tomcat is still in sevice in Iran and its capabilities were upgraded and phonix misile can reach every target in 250 km.

and they are still working on those systems...

  • I like at 0:46 where he's got his head in the afterburner and it looks like his fingers are in his ears...

"No, don't worry mate, you'll be fine... anyone order roasted flight deck tech?" lol

I gotta say that the Hornet is a poor replacement for the Tomcat - a navalised F16 would've been better since F35 is basically a stealthed navalised F16.

  • the single most important difference between the f-16 and f/a-18 is single engine vs twin engine, do you really want to be 300miles out from the carrier when the single engine fails?

  • You know what? YES.

I would put up with that since CSAR would come and get me and the extra number of navalised F16s my nation could afford would have a much better chance of holding a CAP to guard me and my carrier, not only because there would be more of them.

Having said that, I must admit that I may be biassed because I LOVE the F16 and think it's the best fighter jet since MiG21.

  • @macuss87 Uh, excuse me, both the F-14 and the F-18 both have two engines.

  • @DavidRossThompson I know read my comment again I said the difference between and f-16 and f//a-18 is single engine vs dual engine. the f-16 is single engined.

  • @vodkasvictim you are kidding right? a navalized version of the F-16? well lets count the ways in which that is a horrible and impossible idea.

#1 the F-16 has an airframe high time of 5,000 hours before it has to be stripped of anything useful and destroyed to be replaced.

#2 The F-16 is a LAND based SHORT range air superiority fighter, sort of.

#3 the F-16 can not perform the duties of fleet defense.

i could go on but what is the point?

  • Grate documentary!! for me their are tow aircraft's that i love the most : the f-4 and the f-14 both of them are out of service but they will be remember for ever.

  • The F-14 Tomcat is my favorite fighter jet of all time. I uploaded a tribute, which is covered in two videos, to the F-14 Tomcat. I know it doesn't quite do her justice, but it's the best I can do. May the Tomcat never be forgotten, and maybe, hopefully, one day, may she take to the air again. LONG LIVE, THE F-14 TOMCAT!!!!!

  • Overall, thanks for posting this video that featured the legendary F-14 Tomcat, one of my favorite aircraft of all time.

  • F-14's each engine able to produce 20,000lb of thrust, that's incredible:) which makes the aircraft go up more than 1,500mph, more than mach 2. In the end, i felt sad when i heard they retired this awesome aircraft in 2006.

  • @ThunderHenshin32 very true, mind you, the Su35's engines produce 32,000lb each, and those in MiG31 over 34,000lbs each..

  • @fauxsham oh, and those in the new PAK-FA/T-50 are just over 39,000lbs each, getting on for twice the power of the F-14 engines, in an aircraft weighing substantially less :)

  • @fauxsham it's true russian aircraft produce more thrust..sadly they didn't have much success against the F-14 & F-15, due to the difference in pilot. An su-35 & mig-31 would be a good airplane in the hands of an experience pilot. Thanks for the respond & info.

  • @ThunderHenshin32 And that's only the A model. With the upgraded GE engines of the B and D models, the F14 could reach upwards towards 50,000 pounds with each engine.

  • @shifty2757 thanks. for mentioning it.i forgot about those improvements. The engines then be better than i expected.

  • @shifty2757 sorry that is not correct numbers man the F-14 A models with the P&W TF-30's could produce 17,000 pounds of thrust without afterburner, and 27,000 with afterburner, the F-!$ B and D models with the GE F110's produced 28,000 without afterburner, and 39,000 with afterburner

  • Thanks for posting !

  • Greatest documentary show ever made.

  • Yes it was. I wish they still aired it

  • great !!!!! i want one of this :D

  • I grew up in this era-the nostalgia is killing me-but good to see, thanks for uploading this series. Something like this also dates you-I don't feel old but I am getting there.

Compared to our present military technology this looks very quaint and primitive-but it was cutting edge back then naturally. Hang on to such documentaries/movies because they'll never look like this anymore.

  • Exactly.. just like STAR WARS IV from 1977 still rules !!! :-D

  • Absolutely! Heck even the old shows like Buck Rogers were great for their time. I love the 70's and 80's-too bad they don't show any of that nowadays, people are really missing out. :)

  • I truly agreed with both of you (,")

but erm.. honestly I'm kinda 'blank' about Buck Rogers, gotta search for it coz it sounds very interesting!!

    PEACE, bunny

  • pb-Buck Rogers is a bit like Star Trek-TNG, it was thoroughly entertaining, I own the series. There's a treasure trove of exciting and fun things to explore from that era. People from this generation are really missing out. Good luck on your search.

  • @itsprettyeasy Star Trek Rules

  • @AmericaOwnz Hey, I always feel Nostalgic, even (especially) to periods which I haven't been alive in (like the '80s).
