  • no matter victory or defeat in war what war leaves behind is destruction , scars , wounds

    wars Orphans .

  • Plz suggest movies like this folks.. this is really osum movie.

  • @CrazyHeartWizard You should check out Gen Barefoot. Its another Japanese wartime animation.

  • I seen a pretty vid for this movie, Never seen the movie myself but the vid made me want to, Her username is Supermomo426, Who ever likes thiss movie should go watch it^^

  • Pretty! Love it!

    Watch this!

  • this film is THE ultimate tear jerker and a reality check for the ignorant

  • Wonderful story. this really reminds me a regional song of my childhood talking about 1793 Vendée war in france: a little girl losing her father, her brother and her loved horse to republicans then playing drums on the battlefield for her region..She loses everyone again and end alone in a cave to die from hunger

"the little drummer girl fell down, she ll never encounter love.... if children dn't like war, war likes children... before thinking going to war, please don't make children"

  • I saw this movie when I was ten... that's when I learned that not all cartoons are bright, happy, and child oriented...

  • Gosh, i am such a fool!!!!! I saw this movie, and naw i am so depresive!!! i shouldnt watch.....its too sad!!!!!!!! just too much!! when she died....my mom was with me....and when she saw that i can watch at a movie like this....she said "God, dont watch anymore!" and the started to cry!!! shes 42 and she cried like a little child!!!

  • I'm crying :((((((

  • this movie is so sad

    i love it

  • One of my favourite Movies all time. The Godfather 3 Soundtrack "Godfather Intermezzo" had a similar tune at 15 Seconds.

  • The music alone will make you feel emotional, add a plot like the one in the movie, and you will be crying even after its done! I've seen a lot of sad movies but this one touched me in a way that no other movie can or will ever do. This movie should be seen by all the leaders of countries that are in war today. People only think that it's the soldiers who get hurt, but this movie shows that it's the common people who get it the worse. I truly can't put into words what I feel about this movie.

  • It's a beautiful movie that, I think, everyone should see at least one time. You can't watch this movie without becoming a pacifist. I cry my eyes out with this movie, because I feel deeply, deeply sad when I think of the innocent people that had to suffer in wars over religion, money, ... That's not a world I want to die for.

  • That what human beings do to each other... :(

  • This is to powerfull, Brings me to tears. Seriously i have never seen a movie that has brought such an emotional current

  • Its even sadder when you know this was true

  • has hisaishi wrote this masterpiece of musik????

  • @Evangeline191 No,the film's music was composed by Michio Mamiya

  • I read that this movie was based on a book written by a man who wanted to apologize her sister dead during the war

  • Comment removed

  • seita.....

  • OMG.. Why I still cry when I hear setsuko's voice? DAMN.. Powerful fuckin movie.

  • I kinda really wanted to shoot my self in the face after watching this film ghaa :~(

    beautiful

  • the sadest part is at 2:08 when she screams to her brother "Seita!". I have to cry almost every time, when I hear this.

  • @DonLeone she's actually saying "ni-chan" which means "big brother"

  • @karmacop911 Actually it's "onii-chan" and really just "onii" means big brother but...okay...

  • 皆さん有り難う THANK YOU EVERY ONE THANKYOU・・・

  • i need to know the name of the songe

  • @reemstrrr It's "Futari".

  • I want to see a movie like this with Iraqi Characters....

  • wow yeah i seen this movie in 2010.

it's like the best anime film I seen like ever!

very sad movie! made me tear up....^^ love it

  • @Lucariostar Me too. ;__; I hope people will never have to fight again.

    Setsu-chan:"Ni-chaan!~"

*runs up to Seita and sits with him on the bench*

    Seita-kun:"Time for bed, okay?"

    Setsu-chan:"OK!"

*falls asleep. Seita-kun looks out at a modern day Kobe where their home once was*

*SNIFF*. Ack, I got somethin' in me eye .

  • So..pretty this song...

  • Grave of the Fireflies and Schindler's List are THE best war movies ever made. They both show what war really is about, the harsh truth and the struggles that each and every person has to go through.

  • @CheezTiger I also wanna recommend "Full Metal Jacket", but this one's a movie which everyone who doesn't live under a rock has seen. :)

  • @44IsoO ._. Guess I live under a rock.

  • @Talkingcamara2 Then take a look for "Full Metal Jacket". One of the greatest movies of Stanley Kubrick. You won't regret it.

  • @CheezTiger you are complitely forgetting movie ''Come and see'' tells about russian side.. Pretty similar than this and Schindler's List .. You can watch it on youtube.. I guess.

  • omg I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!

    i watched it 4 or 5 times.

once by myself then with my bro he's 17 and he teared up! my mom and uncle did to! =(

love this movie!!! best sadest anime ever!! =)

  • the 1 fuck that disliked has no soul

  • the flute starting at 2:44 made me cry so hard, not only because it was so beautiful but it reminded me of a loved one dying in my past, and this song portrayed the moment perfectly.

  • @ClaylandStudios

Well said indeed. The string section just piles on the emotion so well, and then the flute is absolutely heartrending... not even that cuts it.

Has to be admitted- it is extremely well composed to be able to provoke such tears.

  • I cry every time

  • Children are the real victims of war. They have very little say or decision. In turn they only learn the same course as their parents, continuing the vicious cycle.

  • why so much hatred in this so sad world the war is something so terrible and horrible i've seen this Movie and i Want to cry just when i listen this so so sad music :"""""(

  • is extremely very difficult to see this film u_u

  • This Soundtrack is so sad. I am from Germany and i can feel the pain of the Japanese Children. The szene when setsuko is burning with this soundtrack in the backround makes me finally cry. By the way till this last szene was coming, i fight the tears too:'-( What i like on this Movie is the fact thats about humans and not politics in WW2.

Great Movie I never saw any Movie like this.

  • that what happens in this film happened many others in japan 1945

    its to sad *cry*

  • I can keep control while it's the first part. But when the flute comes... What the fuck, I just can't hold my tears back ! How's it possible ?!

  • I cry every time

  • studio ghibli makes the greatest anime. spirited away, howl' moving castle, princess mononoke, and this one

  • One of the best movies ever; i cried like a kid when i saw this movie, and my heart was broken in many pieces.

  • iorait pas qulqu'un qui aurait la partition de cette musique?

  • @stheive tape "josh's anime sheet music" dans google, clique sur le premier lien, va sous "G" et clique sur "Grave of the Fireflies"

  • trop émouvante cette musique

  • This movie... It is so sad... It made me cry so hard... It just shows how the innocent people are put into hardships because of the decisions of the "country".

Everyone needs to watch this movie. we (the US) weren't the only ones to suffer from the war. Every country in war suffers-- no matter what.

  • Oh god.. This movie is just.... When i watched movies like Bucket list, Forrest gump and ET, i didn't teared up at all... But this movie... made me cry like a little baby. It's just amazing....

  • I'm 19 and watched the movie like 11 times I think... I just can't stop crying my life out every time

  • I had no idea this film would be so depressing. It's still a great film that should be watched by everyone.

  • The saddest film ever made. Ever.

  • what about titanic and gladiator,oh fuck i dont cry at those i cry at this:(

  • I completely agree. Those are just films about losing your 'true love' - a load of bullshit. At least they still have their lives unlike these poor old two :'(

  • @Harnikawa elfenlied is more sad =)

  • @superfalax I'm sure you haven't seen this movie.

  • @44IsoO grave of the fireflies? i saw this movie :D i can tell you the full story :D

  • @superfalax A science fiction anime with tons of gore and some moving scenes should be more movin' than a movie which thematizes the horror and sorrow which children have to go through in times of war? I won't discuss with you, 'cuz I can't comprehend your viewpoint one way or another.

  • @44IsoO i know elfnelied is rly gore, but very sad for me (the end), my favorite films re i am legend, elfenlied, grave of the fireflies, DEATH note, the last song (with miley cirus xDDD, its really sad!!!!!!)

  • @superfalax wth?!? That wasn't sad at all. In fact, it had a happy ending.... And it's not even a movie :/

  • @Harnikawa how u view that as a happy ending?? u defined that is a happy ending wow.... i wonder what u'll refer as SAD ending and SAD

  • @bakane927 Erm, well imo it was pretty happy. I mean...... Lucy didn't die......... only the bitches died....... the childhood friend guy remembered who lucy was............ Yep! Happy ending :)

  • Finished watching the film for the first time today ( I'm 15 ) and I'm thoroughly depressed . I didn't cry, but I have never cried at a movie before so that's nothing new -.- really makes you appreciate your life.

  • I didn't even watch the movie and I got sad.

  • thx for uploading this wonderful song

  • it's devastating... i just finished watching the movie and it feels like a huge emptiness honestly one of the best and the saddest movies ever

  • The conversation's going on well. Don't hesitate. :)

  • only studio ghibli is capable of capturing this cruel, depressing war and convert it to a cinematic event blessed with beautiful images, extraordinary sadness, wonderful characters, and honest portrayment of the unexplicably depressing fire bombings of japan. 10000000/10. fucking brilliant.

  • oh and by the way im 13

  • i give you people some thinking for a while: right now, the world is in a turmoil again. what if world war 3 strikes? think of your situation then. maeby our situations wouldnt be as harsh as theirs, but think of it, our feelings would go through the same as setsuko and aspecially seita. thinking of that from this aspect makes me really think what the world has gone to. and i don tlike the future im seeing in front of me.

  • If you don't like the future you are seeing in front of you, you will surely not like the past you see behind you. Cheer up, optimism, even Japan managed to come out good from the war.

  • yes, that was exactly what i was meaning, the past is already too horrifying, that i dont want to experience the same that the people in ww 1 and 2 felt.and the only thing im actually worried about is that we wouldnt be able to make it after the possible next war, because the distruction-power is so big that it can destroy the wholw world, and then there would not be turning back... im just a little scared, thats all..

  • The real sad story about this movie is that it doesnt end here.

We dont have to wait for a world war 3, isnt it the truth that there is war every day? Not tomorrow not yesterday RIGHT NOW there are hundreds of stories like this going on in real life even today.

  • dont worry.

    this will have an end.

    soon.

  • okay so I can't even listen to this without crying :( this piece when played at the end of the movie is so amazingly sad. the entire movie is overwhelmingly depressing yet that's what makes it such a good movie, whoever doesn't cry at the end of this has no heart at all.

  • I'm 20 and I must admit, I cried when I first watched this movie... Really XD

  • And I saw this with 11 oder 12. Children are more sensitive. :P

  • what do you mean?

  • the ghibli studio has the gift of touching our heart in a completly profound way that I never see in any animation movie or another movie even! this is pure magic, fantasy, 4d dimention :) very enlightment! thank you ghibli and the directors of course! does anyone know some other good studios, japanese or oriental, other resouces like this? I would Thank You so MUCH!!!

    Thank You for posting this!!!

  • No problem. :)

  • This Soundtrack is so sad. I am from Germany and i can feel the pain of the Japanese Children. The szene when setsuko is burning with this soundtrack in the backround makes me finally cry. • If anyone has the MP3 to this song can you message me please?!?!?! x'D

  • there are torrents with the complet discography of the ghibli studio including this little piece of magic composition! :)

  • whenever i listen to this song always makes me cry

  • 見ているとき、泣きずに入られなかった。

  • Okay, understood. :-P

  • ughh this movie is soooo sad! and hearing this song, is now making me want to cry D: D: D:!

  • This melancholy song is beautiful, yet it reminds you of Grave of the Fireflies, probably the only film anyone will cry at, it's just depressingly beautiful.

  • Only tears and joy from what I have... Music awesome (the same as the anime).

  • I told myself I would not cry to this movie but dam this movie was just so emotional and done beautifully I had no choice.

  • hey do you know where i can get this song please i really really love it

  • This is one of the few movies that actually make me want to cry. Yet next time I'll cry alone. ;o;

  • I find it sad that Seita has to resort to stealing during raids just for some rice or whatever he can find.

And like a comment says below me its so easy to show a rambo soldier tearing through the enemy with bullets wrapped around his body!

  • one of the best music i have seen! xD this is sooooo sad and beautiful

    thnx for the uploads ^-^

  • no problem ;)

  • I am so sad. The only reason I couldn't cry is because I heard laughter coming from upstairs continuously for five minutes. It ruined the ending for me. Someday, I will watch it again alone and cry because I feel bad not to.

  • i wana cry

  • this is my favorite version.

  • this movie is so sad....but one of the best

  • Comment removed

  • In my opinion, it is the greatest war movie ever made. It is easy to make a film of the valiant soldier victorious in battle, or even the defeated soldier lose in battle, but it takes real courage to honestly portray the plight of those innocents caught in the cross hairs of war.

  • I'm creating a journal, so to speak, of the brilliant observations, quotations and insights made by everyday people and posted on youtube. I think your's is one of the best I have ever come across.

  • So, what's the result with your journal? :)

  • Not many spectacular comments, but the 7 or so I have really have an impact.

So many modern day Great Thinkers

  • how come the others have speech in, the other music on the soundtrack

  • I think he took this directly from the music 'cause Seita is saying that he "put her ashes in the candy tin the next morning, and never went back to the shelter"

  • Sorry, movie, not music.

  • Such an amazing movie, and just like most of the people who watched it I'm sure, I cried so much!

  • i havent cried for some time now but after watching this, my nose was runny and my eyes were watery, only a monster wouldnt cry after this. TT^TT *wipes tears off face*

  • beautiful song. what a beautiful ending also

  • god that movie made me cry so hard.

  • what was so sad about this movie is that stuff like this happened. And is still happening. One of the greatest movies of all time, realistic, powerful, bitter sweet ending, by far my favorite movie.

  • Not just stuff "like" this. The guy who wrote the book wrote it as an autobiography sort of. Except in real life he didn't die.

  • Well yah thats what I meant by "like" because it was loosely tied into the book. But it is very sad my grandpa was in that WW and was stationed near Osaka and he saw children like this all the time. He does not watch the movie because of the memories.

  • I wept during this movie. The ending is so powerfully sad.

  • Thanks.

  • an amazing movie, the music for it is just hauntingly beautiful. . . ^_^

  • its a beautiful song but movie was sad.
