Fast zombies are all about cheap thrills, a fast zombie is all about reflexes, you don't get the style of psychological horror from a sprinting fast zombies. Slow zombies (or Romero zombies) feel very much like walking corpses, which makes them much creepier than the fast zombie (or "infected" as many unimpressed zombie fans have taken to calling them) act just like people infectes with super-rabies.

You can not run OR hide, they are everywhere and they WILL outlast you, they (like death) are inevitable, you WILL be dead yourself sooner or later. Their slow speed gives you time to contemplate the utter horror that WILL get you, and I think that's MUCH scarier than an infected sprinting to you and tearing your throat out before you even know what hit you. Infected are zombies for people with OCD.
