  • So the republicans using taxpayers dollars bailing out the banks is socialism and bailing out other corporates is socialism. Who funded the research for heart bypass surgery all those years ago i bet it was the tax payers so if you ever need heart bypass surgery you should refuse to accept as the funding for the research came from the public purse why should other taxpayers share their money to help you.

  • So you believe that the Fire Service should be privatised? And that the police service? Would you prefer to have Private Military Contractrs protecting you and your family? What about the education system? Would you prefer private schooling over state schooling, where the richest get the best education and always remain rich, and the poor get the worst and always remain poor? Do you use a public library? Or use the US mail service?

  • Um, you've failed to miss my point entirely. I wouldn't argue that everything should be privatised in a million years. Privatisation has caused nothing but problems for the UK. While the privatised rail system has commited act of negligence after act of negligence, while trains are running slower than ever before and costing a virgin and a first born, yet the nationalised healthcare system continues to run smoothly, despite underfunding.

  • I wasn't arguing against socialism, I was arguing for it. My view of the world isn't warped at all. Sometimes people can't support themselves and they need help. The state should act as a safety net for people in need. What it shouldn't do, and unfortunately what it does here in the UK, is support those unwilling to work.

  • I agree with you. People who are unwilling to work when they are perfectly capable of doing so should get no help at all. But if you've just lost your job I think you deserve some financial help to hold you over until you find a new one. And of course, some people genuinly can't work. Should we just let them rot on the streets?
