Bioshock Gameplay: Houdini Splicer

Then, a little shaken up (and very alert) I find a desk at the end of a short hallway with a strange mask and some money. I cautiously walk towards it, constantly checking behind me. I can't take the mask so I take the money, then I see a red flash and hear a "FOOSH" right behind me! Spining around I come face to face with a Splicer that yells "HELLO!" into my face. I instictively shot for the head, but he vanishes into thin air even as the bullet was on it's way to him.

So, I was chasing this guy, he turns around a corner, and all this happened in slow mo to me:

I ready the shotgun

He yells: "Hold on!"

*Beggins to dissapear*

My pellets fly THROUGH the mist

"Dammit!"

He eventually fell from his own bolts with telekinesis, though

This is one of the many reasons why this game is so amazing. When I first unwittingly walked into that room at the beginning of the vid, I curiously followed a man that would call for help and vanish around corners in a bright, red flash. I tried to follow him around, but could never catch up. I start to suspect that he is just toying with me, like a child plays with his food. I become extremely cautious, and slowly search the room, each corner making me more and more nervous.

After enhancing myself with Tonics & upgrading my capabilities via research, it was possible to take on Houdini Splicers with just a wrench and not taking damage.

Damn Houdinis. There's nothing worse than being low on ammo or health, in a dark section of an unfamiliar area, and hearing that 'whoosh' noise as they teleport, and thinking "Shit, where is this fucker? Where is he?" Before its all fireballs and red screens and "GODDAMNIT!"

My ex and I played this together. She got to this point and when the lights went off, she was staring down and didn't see the shadow. She did this real slow turn around because she knew someone had to be there. She was INCHES from the guy's face. She let out a scream just as he disappeared. It was like a bad movie, my god. PERFECT set up. Scared the living HELL out of us.

@DoomShroomer Hacking is easy!! Use engineering tonics too, like Alarm Expert or Speedy Hacker. Finally you can always freeze turrets, cameras, etc.

they dont teleport, they go invisible temporarily, using eve while they are invisible, how do i know this? you play as a splicer in the multiplayer of bioshock 2!

Actually no, houdini splicers DO in fact teleport, proof of this is them going through walls and reaching areas inaccesable by foot or areas that would take ages to get to within seconds. Yes, the "houdini" plasmid in multiplayer is just invisiblity, but I suspect that is due to a) balance issues, b) coding difficulty and/or c) the civil war varient of the plasmid being less advanced than the one used by Houdini splicers ten years after.

Actually when they burst into red mist, They actually turn invisible, and then they reappear when the mist gathers again, and try taking pictures of them when they are alive, cause it gives you alot more

houdini splicers have some of the most fun battles in the game IMO. Big Daddies are also fun, but they're to big and slow to be hard to hit. however, houdini splicers are so fun i usually lower my skill just so that the ight can go on longer, it's too easy to kill them with winter blast, so i refrain from using that. my best fight was in the courtyard in farmers market, it was a ton a fun guessing where he'll pop up next, then i'd use telekinesis to throw his fireballs right back. awesome game!

I remember this specific fight very well and is generally the part I dread the most in Arcadia. I remember when I was fighting him, he said once in a lady voice, "Oh no, the big scary Splicer is going to cut me up!" or something similar to that, and I laughed a lot. I love how this game is so dark and eery, but there are one or two moments of comedic relief. Then again, I love this whole dam game.

I must confess it never took me THAT long to kill one Splicer. They were fun though. lol. I prefer the Ice-type one's though. DANGEROUS. I wouldn't mind being a Splicer either. The insanity bit scares me but hell, I'd be insane, so I wouldn't know. Wouldn't want to be a Spider Splicer though.

And does Teleportation hurt a houdini?

This is the first one you encounter in the game, that's why it's so heavily scripted and why this guy took more hits to die.

And yeah, I imagine it would probably hurt to tear yourself apart then 'glue' yourself back together leaving a bloody red mist behind each time. Eug.

Saturnine scripture. Houdini splicers called themselves "The Saturnine" and even had their own hyroglyphics.

actally no it doesnt. This skill that they have most Houdinis are so greatly skilled in it that it needs no eve at all to teleport or shoot element balls.

Goddamn this part! I didn't have the privelege of noticing the shadow, so naturally I shat bricks when I turned around and saw the frikin guy behind me. Hauled ass out of there and didnt even bother to kill him. Reminded me so much of FEAR, AND to top it all off made me paranoid about picking shit off of tables (especially in the hospital/operating room areas) for the rest of the game. XD made it that much more 'fun'

I'd say Incinerate! works very well against houdini splicers, they tend to teleport as soon as you use electro bolt.

When I ran into him, I had winter blast equipped. I froze him, and then I blew his ass to high heaven with a gernade launcher. I always do it now, cause I never run into an ice Houndini splicer.

I figured out that when you are like 21/2/3 in the game when you have the full big daddy suit you become a blend in splicers so they dont attack you unless you attack them great time to get photo achievments

An easy was to do this part is: Go up to the table and loot all the stuff. Equip your camera and turn around and quickly take a photo of him (it will be an A.) Switch to the good ol' shotgun and follow him up the stairs. Once you get into that room at the top of the stairs use winter blast on him when he shows up and get a good point blank headshot on him. It will either kill him or leave him with a sliver of health. If it does shatter him you won't be able to loot him though.

Apart from the leadhead/Spider splicers, these are the most annoying of the splicers. I fought this guy almost the same way except I didn't go through the room with the water. In this vid, I saw water shoot up as the invisible splicer was running across, creepy.
