I prefer the type of layout shown. Not overloaded with the usual, repeated structures and clutter with a lot of "manufactured" pine trees. The scene reminds me of the La Mesa Club at San Diego, free of clutter. A lot of Thrall well cars I believe. Looks like "early" models from the 80's period. If true, maybe some SP SD40/45 tunnel units or UP SD40-2 lashed up with those units. Nice layout which proves simplicity in scenery free of clutter can be effective when well done.
@JIMBOSKI58 Ya, the 53' cars without the shared truck are Thrall cars. I do have a pair of SD45T-2s that I sometimes run on the layout but without a reliable DCC system, it is problematic to run them. Thanks for the review on our layout! We're still doing upgrades and my latest project, when I get back from Amtrak training, will be install signals at critical junctions and crossovers!
Using a lightweight engine should do the trick. The less weight an engine has the less push/pull power it has. Maybe an Athearn gp unit. My athearn GP60M and B aren't the greatest pullers of my fleet.
Nice power!

Thanks! I thought this would be a great place to shoot vid with the S curve and the trestle above the mainline.
