  • Goodness, why isn't this guy still running? I don't like having Ron Paul as my only choice.

  • I really like Dennis Kucinich, but I have to disagree with his position on guns. Without the right to bear arms, the people are at the mercy of the government, which is armed and always will be.

  • Yeah, that whole "faith" thing is my problem with banning guns.

  • Department of Peace . . . what an unfortunate name! Way to close to the Orwellian Ministry of Peace, haha. But I love the idea!

I think that it is possible to achieve peace, harmony and understanding, but not through government education programs. It wouldn't feel natural. It would seem overbearing and uncomfortable. It would need to be a grass roots movement.

  • Wow he has an extremely odd way of talking and answering these questions. Super deadpan humor. But either way I agree with most everything he said. It's hard to have optimism though when we've seen almost no real change with the core problems with the country.

  • Single payer option FTW!

  • I love his sense of humour, even though it is a bit lame...LOVE YOU DENNIS!

  • We could achieve peace, but just because we do, other's aren't. The rest of the world isn't ready.

What's the point of fertilizing the lawn when snow's on the ground?

  • Of course its possible we can create a peaceful society and end all war. Peace is absolutely inevitable. Humanity will find peace, either through individual and societal growth or through self-annihilation.

Personally, I support the Kucinich plan of peace through positive change. The currently popular alternative, "peace through domination", can never work.

  • Peace is inevitable! Mr. Kucinich, your idea of a peace department is the most rational and forward thinking change to government I have heard proposed in a long time. Yes!

  • Continued.

    Dennis,

You have lost my spport and my respect.

Also, I don't appreciate not being able to comment on your videos (commenting has been disabled), so that instead on commenting on the video where you stated you will vote on Obama's health legislation, I needed to come here to comment.

  • @GreekVegetarianRecip I feel ya but who else is with the people as much Mr.Kicinich right now?

  • Dennis,

After you stated that you would vote for Obama's health plan tonight (March 17, 2010), you demonstrate that you consider KEEPING YOUR JOB, more important than KEEPING TO YOUR PRINCIPLES. You have now become a politician. Shame on you! You should have stuck to your principles (Medicare for all), even if it means your voting "No" will make the legislation fail. You can rationalize it anyway you want to yourself. You sold out. You have lost my support.

  • @GreekVegetarianRecip listen buddy, Kucinich knew when to cut "his" losses. While it would have been great to hold out for a better plan, idealism can only take us so far. Realistically looking at this debate, there is no way that a better plan is going to come around now. We had to cut our losses and take what we can get. This isn't about sticking it to the Republicans. It's about helping people.

  • @GreekVegetarianRecip I can understand your point - its extremely frustrating when there is an obvious solution that would help everyone, but its weakened to the point where its a lot less beneficial. That's the nature of US politics though.

Don't blame Kucinich for the flaws of the political system. Politics is the art of the possible. You have to achieve the best *possible* outcome at every opportunity. There is no benefit to anyone making futile stands. Less benefit is better than none.

  • Crohn's disease?

  • @19:42 What health problem did he have? I couldn't make out what he is saying. Help!

  • kucinich the best choice since 1979; american media/lobbyists has already delayed it by 31yrs.

  • what about ross perot?

  • Animals don't have "rights"...they have privileges!

  • Love the peace sign after 22:49

  • what on earth is up with the blue dog question? that was a weird answer.

  • Kucinich'012 or '016

  • gg Kucinich ftw

  • Dennis Kucinich...I am so sad that people are apparently so willing to be deceived. (I know, the mainstream media keeps people "dis-informed", but still). I can only conclude it is society's mental illness to not want to face reality and prefer to be deceived-by the Obamas and the Scott Browns of the world.

You, Dennis Kucinich, and Ralph Nader are the voices of reason and compassion. When will people wake up and listen to you?

  • "For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. He who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love." - Pythagoras

  • As naive as it might sound, going vegan is one of the most potent, and radical, political actions anyone can make.

Going vegan has the power to positively reshape the world and give humanity the hope of a sustainable future.

If you cannot go 100%, OK ... 99% is OK!

  • I agree with you ZotQuix....

There is no reason why people cannot own gun such as shot guns and others used for hunting..but a hand gun is manufactured specifically to kill PEOPLE! and no one should have that.

Self-defense, pepper spray, security systems are all ways to protect yourself without causing harm. Also, people with guns are more likely to be shot then people who do not have guns, because guns give people a false sense of security and so they take risks that they may not normally do.

  • Kucinich is way ahead of the curve. Unfortunately, most of our citizenry is not.

  • Kucinich isn't radical; he's completely rational. If he seems radical, it's only because we're compaering him to the version of reality foisted on us by the right's extensive propaganda apparatus. But you've never listened to Limbaugh, or Hannity, or Beck, or O'Reilly, or Coulter, or any of the other radical haters.

  • Kucinich's views (to me) are too far left and out there for me.

That said, the man comes across as being genuine, and he doesn't seem to try to deceive those he's speaking to or representing. Of the people whose views I disagree with, Kucinich seems to be an earnest and decent ideological opponent.

  • One of the few good folks in Washington- stay real DK.

  • God damn it, I love this man. How I wish that he had won the Democratic nomination. He is very intelligent and insightful and the level of sincerity and honesty that I get from him whenever he speaks is shocking for a politician.

I guess his policies are too "radical", but I voted for him in the primary and would vote for him again.

  • Thank you Dennis for your courage and brilliance. Is the population on this planet growing so dull that greed is our highest value? Please, younger people: read, continue your education--make it a lifelong pursuit--as in "live and learn."

  • Why am i watching this!

  • I was shot with a .44 Bulldog when i was 12 and think giving up guns would be a grave mistake for the American People, I do not own a gun but the way things are looking i may soon need one to hunt food for Washington seems bent on destroying our country, we can't stand much more of this treatment, everyone is turning against Washington, this is all new to me and BUSH opened my eyes to the LIES, I will vote PAUL, I only trust YOU and HIM Dennis

  • @TheCronicSlayer the sad thing is they have extremely different opinioins

  • The lobbiests are buying the politicians, thats a big problem. Atleast, thats the way it looks to the taxpayers.

  • Solve my riddle and I will Sub you!

What work is it that the faster you work, the longer it is before you're done, and the slower you work, the sooner you're finished?

  • Dennis we need guns to protect ourselves from government. Actually we neen M16s.

  • Thanks for taking time answering Congressman!

  • "Peace" How can we attain it? I believe it starts with teaching people at a young age to be responsibly for ones behavior. That individuals should rule themselves, in a sense of a develop code of conduct. Teach children to become leaders. So that they can learn to become more independent and responsible. We also need to know that we are all the same..HUMAN, and no one is above or below that standard.

  • What a great video. I wish that there were more politicians that actually cared about the American people the way Dennis does. He's the only politician who's actually been honest and has stood up for what he believes in!

  • Look ma, it is Larry Laffer! In the Land of the Lounge Lizards!

  • Yay! Dennis!

  • NIce to see such reinforcing remarks.

Dont stop there spread the word and take back control of YOUR government.

  • Yes! Thanks Mr. Kucinich!

  • Omfg, No bacon????

  • Dennis is the Man!

  • The $5 hamburger has multiple subsidies bringing the price down to compete with fresh produce. If you really want to learn about your food then read or watch anything by michael pollan.

  • High cost of food? Wait, what? Are you fucking crazy? Food is crazy cheap in the US, when compared to say Europe.

  • Mr. Kucinich, I have to apologize for, and regret, not paying better attention to you during these last elections. I become a bigger fan/supporter every time I see one of your videos. Keep up the good work.

  • You rock Dennis!

  • I love this man!

  • Could you just write the speeches and have your super-hot pedo wife read them? She should do it in a thong bikini, OK?

  • ha! I'd get a foot stool. Good idea. That'll win you my vote...but only iof you run for British Prime minister...

  • Grow some balls Amerifag.

  • war is abortion

  • This guy is fucking cool.

  • I think that's an illusion. If (virtually) nobody had guns, the probability of being shot would be very low (like in my country).

If you have a gun in your hand the odds are way higher that you escalate a situation and do something stupid. I think a gun gives you a false sense of security.

You can still fire your gun at a shooting range, I know it's fun and I do it from time to time myself.

  • Note that you said "I think", you may think but what you think may be far from reality,if people didn't have guns criminals would find other methods of harming people,a gun is just one of the more convenient ways of protecting yourself from crime.

  • Just because [insert name here] chooses to not [insert harmful activity here] does not mean he has to take away others right to [insert random activity here].

  • So, just because people choose not to marry members of the opposite sex does not mean that someone has to take away the right of others to marry members of the opposite sex.

  • exactly

  • Kucinich doesn't have the power to take away others rights to protect themselves with handguns. He is a single congressman.

  • Yet he can vote on a bill that would.

  • As long as there are people who thrive on hate and suffering we will never have a peaceful society. Rid society of these blemishes, and we will have peace. We can do this by shunning, ignoring, and avoiding anyone who fits that mold. Eventually, god willing, they will fade away and be nothing more than a reminder of what an exemplary human being is not. You can start by making a personal vendetta to weed those people out of you lives, and surround yourself with kind, loving, and peaceful peers.

  • His comment around 8:40 is fantastic.

  • I hope no idiot asks why there are more ratings than views

  • WHY MORE RATING THAN VIEUWS LOL

  • I see 186 ratings vs 372 views

  • I detect a ratings ponzi scheme.

  • The frontal camera is badly framed and lighted, completely unnecessary.

  • they should also mix down the audio to a mono track.

  • Lit.

  • Epic dodge on the blue dog question.

  • great video. Change light levels on premiere pro :P

2:04, then needs of the corporations are put infront of the needs of the people all the time.

  • Love you, Dennis. Keep up the great work!

  • good stuff. nice 1080p quality video, audio could have been better.

  • good

  • Bravo, Congressman Kucinich!

You're truly brilliant, honest and courageous. Your last question and proposition is an important one, and should be seriously considered before we're able to unite and live up to our highest, albeit dormant potential. Thanks for answering our questions.

  • great interview, more politicians should utilize the internet to give these kind of 'personal' speeches to the people it is very effective

  • I wish they would quit screwing around with the camera angle. incredibly annoying

  • I really like this guy. I really do.

  • Interesting idea at the end... Democratic party splitting off into two parties as the republicans die down. Sounds feasible.

  • Dear Mr. Kucinich,

To hear you are a vegan with aspirations of a united humanity in Peace was for myself, a first, for I had no idea that any politician was so inclined. Thank you.

To answer your final question to redditors; I am an optimist and know it is possible for our species to evolve into a non-violent and compassionate race. I've been vegetarian for almost 20 years and you have been the final inspiration to go vegan starting the new year. I shall never again raise a hand in violence. TY

  • I to was surprised to hear that he is vegan and strongly for peace and unity. It is something that so many politicians mention and play with, but so few actually believe in and follow through on. I truly think that he believes that is can be achieved.

I am also a vegetarian going on 5 years now, have not yet taken the step to veganism, but I am sure that I will at some point. I am constantly hoping for and working towards a non-violent world, and it feels good to know others are out there.

  • What a decent bloke.

  • not only smart, but decent from what i can tell. seems like a very honest guy, which is almost nonexistent in politics.

  • Kucinich - thank you so much for listening and engaging with Reddit. You rock!

  • Yo! Don't take my gun! Crime is at all-time low levels, at the same time gun crime is down, yet concealed carry is increasingly allowed across the US. Your non-violence ideals are brilliant, and I'll throw my gun in the oven the day all the criminals lose their guns.

  • The gun and political involvement responses weren't that satisfying. It's stunning how almost out of touch the Mike Rowe and this interview seem to be, with what reddit is. What is the pre-interview stage like for these things?

  • Can you replace the audio with a mono version? I'm using headphones and all the sound is in one ear.

  • I am almost positive that I love this man.
