I've never broken that verse down before, it was actually my least favourite song on the Album. So thank you Common for doing this. This is simply poetry, it's intellectualism, it's beauty, it's a verse about growing up in place you or me would never understand.
Any asshole who mentions J-cole name needs to be shot. I'm tired of you faggots, ur just like Eminem fans. I'm going to say this clearly, J-cole is not on the same level as Nas or AZ. He is lyrically inferior to them in every aspect. Nas's worst album, Nastrodumas is better than J-coles album. I heard J-coles album and I was unimpressed by it, he would not have had a career in the 90's when lyrics mattered. Nas music will live on, J-cole will be forgotten in two years.
@blackplaque617 Nah man, I'd say Cole World is better than Nastrodamus. And if not Cole World then certainly Friday Night Lights and The Warm Up, his 2nd and 3rd mixtapes which are way better than Cole World, they were albums basically.
Cole is certainly no Nas but you're taking it too far.
@blackplaque617 i would never compare j cole to nas or AZ but we need someone like J cole in the rap game right now... if you actually listen to his mixtapes previous to his album, he had lots of raw talent/material that got me hooked on to him.. not only can he rap, he also produced most of his songs. Eminem? hes in his own league.. dude can spit.
@joseph92Morales Fam if your trying to get at me lose some weight first. Also, why are you wearing lipstick in your picture??? You fat spic, your the only fag on here lol.
People are out of their fucking mind if they think AZ had the better verse. Go and listen to the track or read the actual lyrics. But on mo money, mo muder, mo homicide and how ya living, AZ killed Nas on those tracks. But Nas clearly took this one.
@RelaxednCaIm Naw, your right bro. I'm buggin, I type that shit so fast. I meant the song "the flyest" off stillmatic. Nas got AZ on mo money... mo homicide.
@jfraz1992 This is real hip hop? ''Lupe Back'' or this ''Lightwork'' or ''Break the Chain'' ¡¡¡TECHNO!!! first listen this song and later speak... Look men, ICE CUBE, COMMON, RAKIM, METHOD MAN...This is real hip hop...U not speak nothing about HIPHOP!
@MasterRecordNando u have a point there about the beats, but the message was still there, so if u were quote on quote on real "hiphop" u would of noticed the lyrics......just saying
@MasterRecordNando i would understand drake not being a real rapper... but you need to listen to j cole my man... not the music videos on youtube, but download his mixtapes and you will see why i think hes an old school kind of rapper
@shaq430 ohhh shit i completely forgot about kendrick... yea hes actually 10x's better with lyrical content.. maybe thats why i dont listen to him as much..cause of his flow.. i respect both cole and kendrick though
Wow, for a minute, Common shut me off from the entire world with this. Its funny cause I have the Illmatic album and for some reason, without the beat, I like the verse a billion times more.
