damn you warner bros, devo were never meant to make pop music, freedom of choice makes me angry. just two years later and they're a comparative snore fest compared to this
Dudes- Devo is once again blaring out of the stereo( great having a teenager in the house) forgot how much these guys appreciated Kaptian Kopter & Commander Cassidy in Potatoland!....
I have heard DEVO nearly 25 years or so (i just knew MONGOLOID)not.I agree with you bootlegapples!!!I am from Germoney,so excuse any grammatical faults
This was absolutely nuts. It just makes it MORE of my favourite Devo song. I concur though, someone needs to get a better/the original copy of this and remaster it. From what I've seen so far it's way too awesome.
nick1137, yeah, being dropped from the label would've enabled them to return to their creative license - they've bitched about their label demanding a certain sound on albums since then.
the worst thing that ever happened to Devo was "Whip It" being such a big hit. So many people think they're oddball one-hit wonders, when it fact they're the owners of a ton of downright dirty rockin' punk gems!
notice that durring the 2nd solo to this song [the mr dna solo] bob1s guitar comes unpluged, thats why you dont hear nothing once hes in the crowd, also durring the 1st solo at the 3:17 mark, bob 1s strap lock fails and he nearly drops the guitar on the ground, thats why he quickly finished off the solo and ran back to his mic on the stage, still an awsome performance!
HA! nihilistic self-debasement at its best.I lov it when Bob kamikazis into the audience, inviting them to join them in self-destruct mode. The spiritual descendants of the Marx brothers.
my god, how does this work so well??? everything they are doing just works! if it wasn't for growing up on devo, i may have ended up normal! praise "BOB"...
This makes me want to go find an empty concrete pool and drop-in! "We need to sacrifice ourselves so many others may live!" D-E-V-O: the most under-appreciated, brilliant, New Wave-Techno-Punk group ever!
the shirts, suits, sox, pads, helmets, shoes, and 3d glasses i can take, but those shorts are just WEIRD!
i wish wiggly world was recorded, it was played, but apperently cut from the overall television broadcast, along with the corperate anthem. Secret agent man was also supposed to had been played during a sound check at this conert. which would had been fucking awsome to hear
I think cog is kinda missing the point, i really dont think that band at ANY point was trying to look cool, the point was more I think to not look cool and to be uniformed with the band. And the shorts arent even that bad anyway
your welcome! and about the obsesson,i know how you feel,my obsession finaly died down after i got all of the albums! although im still a huge fan of devo!
Let's see, I got every album except Underground Devo Vol. 1, for vids I have Live 1980, the Complete Truth, Devo Live, and a VHS of Are U Experienced along with three posters and two shirts. And I also made a version of this get up they wear a lot and the Whip It video turtlenecks. Do you think I qualify ? ?
Funny how Bob Lewis, who had read "The Beginning Was The End" and turned Jerry on to it, was able to later sue DEVO for the theft of "HIS" intellectual property and win! Seems to me that Lewis got the idea from Maerth.....
dude, you definatly qualify! i dont even have all of the viedo tapes yet, heck,i dont have nearly as much merchendice as you have!! the olny merchendice i have are: a radition suit that i caught in a devo consert,a homemade radition suit, energy dome,2 devo shirts, and a poster! you sir are a huge spud! do you know where i can get that book The beginning was the End?
I got mine by checking Amazon and Ebay randomly until someone or some store decided to sell it I believe mine was mailed from California but I guess that doesnt really matter. Anyways if you want a copy good luck and the movies are all on Amazon including VHS's. I actually do not have an energy dome I must admit but to be entirely honest I dont mind looking awfully silly but those are a little much for me to walk around in. I guess you can make them ? ? I dunno, anyways thanks.
your welcome! and you read it wrong,i diddnt make my energy dome,i baught it in the devo consert i went to,olny my one radition suit ,but,i olny wear them durring holloween, devo conventions, conserts, etc. otherwise i agree,id look pritty werd walking around in the public in those, lol!
There are two kinds of people in the world: 1) those which know this is one of the most badass groups ever. 2) those who are hopelessly lost and must be converted into Devo fans. We all know what must be done.
Yeah! Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA is the best song ever by DEVO. I saw them live in Frankfurt Germany (1990) while I was in the military overseas. They blew the roof off the place! I met one of the guys - Gerald Casale. He was awesome. *D*E*V*0* !!!
Man oh man, I saw them twice during this era- both times at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago.
I can remember every second of them doing these songs ( in particular) as if it were yesterday. The second time Mark had a sampler taped to his chest - pushed one finger down for some awesome circuit bent noise, and shouted 'Ted Nugent ! Ted Nugent !'
Devo was God. Tripping madly didn't hurt the experience, to be sure.
This footage Rocks!!!!! the first time I saw DEVO was late night after a party in the seventies, they were performing Jocko Homo on Don Kirshner's rock concert...I remember saying, "What the F*ck was that?" I got hooked immediately...then they did a little cover spot on 60 minutes about new wave, then I finally found the LP We are DEVO...fan for life.
I think the guitar sounds in the audience must be overdubbed. Great Job.

I love the early punk Devo. They started a whole new wave of music but eventually became victims of the mid 80's "New Wave" sound that became popular.
My #1 favorite band of all time.
forrestluvspogs9 3 years ago 3
Even so, Devo was one of the pioneers of that 80's "New Wave" sound. I like both, but I too prefer their early "electro-punk" sound.
