I recommend Les Andelys (sp?) a bit North of Paris to see what's left of Richard's white castle. If this isn't a supreme picnic spot, up there over the river, I dunno what is.
I consider both this actress and actor wonderful. But I heard him say that she warned him no to let her steal every scene! I am vastly misquoting but I think I have the sentiment correct. Dear Katherine was warning a younger actor to hold his own with her.l Talk about a cool story. As I recall he told it during an interview and he did it as Katherine Hepburn! IT was actors studio I think.
It's hard to believe, but this dialogue is so peppery that it comes close to suggesting just how those times were politically. Treachery and brutality. They could never show what really happened through the history of the Plantagenets, not even in this age of ridiculous movie license. Enemies being murdered at the altar of the church and then yanked out into the street and chopped to pieces. Imprisoned churchmen hanging in iron cages outside towers for years. Ghastly medieval punishments.
Family quarrels at their best next to Who's afraid of Virginia Wolff. The Lion came out 2 years after Who's....

John is a young Nigel Terry (who later starred in "Excalibur") Hopkins's portrayal of Richard is his first major film role.

I can't believe Johnny is a young Anthony Hopkins! Later he said he based Hannibal"s accent on Katherine's.

Thank you for posting - one of the movie's best sequences of skits in one 10-minute clip.
