Out of any anime I have ever watched, Initial D's storyline is amazing. Like EmotionalKing says, this anime is more than just about the car's, the characters are so well fleshed, and the cars as well have a personality as well!

I'm a big fan of JDM import cars so for me this show is worth watching for the cel-shaded CG animated racing scenes alone since beyond that this show doesn't offer much else worthwhile. You gotta love the Eurobeat music though.

@amerexile001 i watched all stages of intial d from 1-4 so there're enough character development...in stage 4 it's mostly about them starting out as project d and challenging new opponents; also since i'm not a car expert i do find it's useful to know a bit about car in general...

the focus is on takumi and him being in project d and how he improve his technique...it's pretty straight forward...and since it's continue from the other stages there is less of a need for character development in my opinion...if it's not for u then it's u right not to watch it.

Look at today's racing games they suck and have no good story, except for Initial D and Wangan Midnight because their stories about street racing is about the character and what are they going through and challenges they take. In the videos like NFS and Midnight Club it all about cars and no good reason of a story. Also don't get me started with real world street racing.

@EmotionalKing Initial D by far has the best story, but physics wise for racing games I gotta say Forza 3 is pretty damn good for a console game. There is this one game my friend told me about on PC that is even better, currently has only like 5 cars, formula 1600 through formula 3000 I believe but it's amazing. But you're right nothing matches the excitement of carving canyons with your friend's.
