  • HORN, You are beautiful. Everyone else, you are also beautiful.

  • Dat oboe solo :'(

  • one of the best songs ive ever heard!

  • A wonderful piece with oriental percussion. Its difficulty is rather underrated, as it has complex runs for woodwinds. It is, at the very least, medium-hard, covering a large range, requiring high technical skills, emotional expression (especially during the oboe solo), and stamina (the woodwind runs on the last page are killers). Overall, this is an exciting piece that shows mastery and raw emotion, that with greater recognition, would surely put its author among the greats of music.

  • Uh man, I loved playing this song for band! Freaken awesome!

  • 3 people hate good music

  • im playing the horn solo at our next concert. its pretty cool, but i get terrible stage fright...

  • played the oboe solo! Awesome song!

  • @captainmuon Haha, I played this a few years ago and our director had a flute play that solo instead because our oboe player was terrible :/ but you gotta admit that's kinda funny haha

  • @captainmuon

you are so cooool, can i be your friend

  • Clarinets get all the credit for the runs, but the xylophone runs are so much more badass!

  • @Christianbayens -- i know I used to play 1st clarinet.. those runs are murder but the xylophone runs are even worse.

  • the french horn counter melody is so amazing. nice use of vibrato :)

  • @sayuhedead they used vibrato? 0.0

  • Long live J.L. Hosay!! one of the finest composer for Band orchestra!! :D

  • Hard as Hounds of Spring and our teacher makes us play it at higher speeds. This is a grade 6 band piece, the hardest kind.

  • who doesnt like this song!? its so awsome!

  • what a nice song. must try it out. the background story makes me feel emo though:(

  • The french horn in this is incredible, coming from a horn player especially. <3

  • I love the end, 3 music lines in 1!

  • God, the slurs and stuff...

  • I miss playing this song. I either would played the 1st clarinet or 2nd clarinet part pending the day. The horn parts are the best. However the runs at the end are murder (especially for the winds). This ended up being one of our favorite songs to play in band.

  • Beautiful this song, the oboe player is fantastic and the french horn players are too . I play this music too in my band . My instrument(french horn) it can be heard in 3:45

  • you gotta love the epic brass moments.

  • Beast Trumpet Part..good thing i get to play them on first chair freshman year

  • I enjoy this, its a very cool piece to learn in a couple hrs. Though putting it all together haha....

  • I love this song! I played it last year in symphonic band, great french horn parts!

  • @ccmike202 yeah i played it too ^^

  • me encanta.. yo la estoy tocando ahora y se me pone la carne de gallina cuando escucho el papel de trompa

  • The Xylophon part is so mazing !!! So fast ...

  • i hate how the trumpet grace notes are always going between the same fingerings.

then it returns for the same fingerings for the non grace note..notes. >__>

  • Our band won New York World Competition with this piece in 2007, and we took it faster also! :)

    Clarinets :D :D

  • I played this in tenth grade. I want to play it again this year SO EPIC

  • Oboe solo blows me away......every time.

  • the fingerings for this... good lord...

  • very very very good ;-)

  • can any one tell me which parts are trumpets?

  • Èpic!

  • just did this song at nationals in Ottawa, WON GOLD. Amazing song.

  • I love this piece. Especially the oboe and french horn duet in the middle. Love the clarinets doing eights during that part too. Makes a great harmony, kind of sad, but really preeeetty.

  • This song is EPIC I played it last year at Furman Band and Orchestra Camp and I was first bassoon in the symphonic band and 3 in the wind ensemble and chosen for the Furman woodwind quintet. I just wish the bassoon part was as epic as everybody elses...

  • Love this song a lot!~

Apple Valley in Minnesota? I'm from St. Francis -- Our top band's most likely playing it for something or other this year, lol.

  • @neferiel I went to north branch and when I was in tenth grade our symphonic band played this. I loved the story behind the music and that beginning epic part was just SOOOO fun to play. trumpets for the win by the way...

  • One of my favorites :) I got to play the oboe solo last year as an 8th grader at camp :D

    Beautiful <3

  • i get to play the solo on my flute this year :)

  • essa musica é demais

    perfeta

  • The horn part is SO beautiful!!!

  • Good Song

  • The clarinet from 7:11 on is freaking ridiculous! I had to play this in band last year, and its is an entire page filled completely with runs. It was so fun though.

  • try those runs on the xylophone LOL :(

  • tell me about it...

  • @xXl2ADXx I know the clarinet part is insane with those runs, but I do agree with you, it was a blast to play. Especially the 1st clarinet part.

  • @xXl2ADXx that's exactly what my oboe piece is. haha i love it!

  • te wylophone is gone crazy

  • i love this song so much <3 have to say my all time favorite

  • I played this in my high school band for the Heritage festival in 2006. I play flute and this was absolutely the most difficult song to play... The woodwind part is ridiculous!! I could not play it at the speed I was supposed to.. Haha now I want to pick up my flute and play it till I get it!!

  • I'm playing the horn part of this for the Heritage Festival THIS spring! It's gonna be in Texas for us this year. I'm the only horn for Apple Valley High this year, and the tenors in our band wont play the horn cues (thank God!) so I play the horn melody alone.

  • @SoraRoxasmon you lucky bastard... we played this in our marching show TWO years ago, and i still love this... I play horn too, and i wish we wouldve played the actual music, not some weird interpretation....

  • my band did the solo with a soprano sax, waaaay better sounding than an oboe playing it.

  • I LOOOOOOOVE this piece, we didn't play it enough in band. i had trumpet 3... so i was playing with the tenor's melody 8D love this song ^^

  • this song wood sound better faster but i wanna ask my band teacher about this for the spring concert.......

  • mas que increible...xDxD

  • wosss...i dont words thiss...increible

  • The solo can also be played by the soprano saxophone.

  • we play this like 2x faster haha

  • that's good for you. but as you can see, this is how it was supposed to be played. at the correct tempo and how the composer made it to be.

  • Of course.... And I'm convinced it sounds even great at the same time...

    ...sucker =D

  • we're going to play this piece for band soon. i can't wait...

  • the cor anglais solo and the the where the whole band plays that solo phrase together is just so wonderful :D

  • we are playing this in my band too, alto sax rules

  • One of the greatest songs I've been a part of.

Listening to my fellow oboe player on the solo and then joining in after was an extremely moving and emotional experience.

  • flute solo 2:30 im so moved ..

  • It's an oboe solo.

But it can be played by flute too, but here it's an oboe I believe.

    But yeahhh, it was beautifulll.

  • soli, that one is Oboe, but not flute...

  • @andremanfeng in smaller wind orchestras it's a flute hihi =)

  • @andremanfeng The Oboe soli is written in in the first flute part though. I think its meant to be played by the flute soloist if the oboe sucks or if there is no oboe.

  • @allen20011 That'd be AWESOME, because it was my solo, and I was great at it, but my band director decided he wanted it on a reeded instrument, and gave it to soprano sax... Which I guess sounds cool. But it sounds SO MUCH PRETTIER ON FLUTE.

  • that is an oboe dude...

  • it is an oboe

  • @spongeCrab29 oboe

  • @spongeCrab29 um that is an oboe so you should learn your instruments

  • @spongeCrab29 Hahahaha , ps sia ... :S

  • Heheheh, Tuba on this is pretty epic even though it is the bass line :D

  • It has its perks :P

  • my conductor gave me angry faces so I'd play meanerr haha :D

  • search in the youtube "PERSIS POCARIÇA", is better than others

  • also nice horn and flute solos. The horn part on this piece sounds very beautiful.

  • very nice oboe solo.

  • Very Beautiful Song !!! And the flute part is so difficult !!!!

  • I played this in the anual all-county festival with like seniors. It was ausome!!! This was our favorite song!! But indeed, the runs are super hard. Hehe, but I play the Tenor sax, so I didn't have to worry! ^_^ Poor flutes though. The oboe soloist was very jumpy though. Every year it seems the oboe solo (always seems to be a female) doesn't do good. Awell, it's still a magnificent piece!

  • nabilah which sch playing in 2 years?

to Maynardthe2nd which sch did it 2 years ago?

  • My school's marching band did this two years ago, I was one year behind :(

I'm so upset I didn't get to do this show with them, the music is simply awesome, and the ballad beautiful. I give Hosay his props.

  • Next two years im gonna play this on my SYF...... its gd to hear but hard to play!!!!

  • ur gonna have a hard time =D

  • last chair clarinet, uber epic!

  • This piece is fun to play. We are playing this for our Spring Concert. I have to solo with the bassoon in the middle section just before the oboe. It was a challenging song to learn at first but we figured it out and it sounds awesome!

  • I had the bassoon solo too! :)

  • I play flute and the first time i looked at this piece i was like oh wow, the runs are crazyyyy. but i love it!

  • fourth chair trumpet, freshman, never played grace notes before HOLYSHIT!!!

  • Playing this at school. The Bassoon parts are EXtrememly fun to do, not gonna lie...even though I'm rarely heard ='(

  • They are fun. I was in a band with five bassoons when we did this. It was the first time a band director has ever told a bassoon to backoff in the history of band I think.

  • we're playing this in class, I'm bass drum

  • I play suspended cymbal lmao.

  • I bone in 7 positions on this song.. love it.

  • oh boy, i play this on flute. the runs are crazyyy!

  • I plat Tenor Sax on this, and this piece has excellent harmony. I recently found the story behind the music.

A young man is warped through time iinto ancient Persia. He happens to become entranced with a beautiful noble maiden, the maiden saying she recognized him, as if from another place in time. The man went into her (he's forbidden) castle, and when the guards found out, they chased after him. He then races away, mourning over what could have been, and is sucked back to his time.

    =D

  • DX agh! I meant play! =(

  • im 1st clarinet

    i love this piece!

  • i play the third clarinet part in neywe

  • I play the Euphonium part on this. It's such a fun part.

  • My school band's playing this too

    Tuba part is unreal :D

  • My high school band just got the music today... I'm so excited to play this sucker. I mean, those woodwind runs are freaking crazy.

  • i plat trumpet too and we are playing it for one of our comcerts this semester. Its amazing.

  • check out "Persis Super Smash Bros" when my band performed it we decided to make a slide show to go with it. It's awesome.
