  • Most wonderful ending with the G - Cm and oboes at the end ... sigh I sang this in choir two years ago ... was tenor 2 for this movement

  • Con esta música dan ganas de arrodillarse toda la Misa...

  • Sir Colin Davis' tempo of this is my favorite but seeing Bernstein conduct what I feel is one of the all time great chorus' is nothing short of amazing!

  • Chords: Gm - Eb/G - F#dim7 - Dm/F - Em7 - Cm/Eb - D - C#dim7 - D7, note the descending bass

  • @rossyxan where?

  • @oddvidios Throughout the beginning, notably stated in strings around 0:00 - 0:16 and repeated under choir

  • Agnus dei... My god, my friend, my way to heaven!!!

  • salvando las distancias (esta interpretación tiene sus años y no representa nada fuera de lo común en su momento) creo que aquí se han pasado de románticos. Los primeros violines son aterradores!

  • genio

  • Que maravilha poder viajar nessa imensidao musical, Mozart seja pra sempre.

  • Qui Tollis

Thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Thou that takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer.

Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy on us.

    Amen.

  • Greatest music piece....

  • Música aterradora.

  • This Qui Tollis is derivated of a part ( chorus ))of "Israel in Egypt" by Handel: "The people Shall Hear and Be Afraid" They are very similar.

  • A truly great performance marred only by the composer's blinding tempo...

  • exelente

  • This is a heaven's music! Mozart is really the best!

  • This is probably my favorite section of this mass. Very well performed by everybody, but, as others have said, it should be a bit slower. I think Karajan's tempo is much better for this.

All other sections of this performance are just about flawless, though.

  • I'm guessing this is late 80's; does anyone know exactly when and where and why?

  • The beauty of the passus durisculus...

  • I agree with the guy who thinks this is just a hair too fast. The text is begging God to have mercy on us, so in my opinion it's most powerful when the tempo is as slow and painful as you can get away with.

  • I've always figured this part to be a 2-section movement. The first part being Jesus' steps carrying the cross, the other being the silent painful thoughts of the croud watching - in their faith apologizing for condemning him to death.

  • @ AlexOrganMusic ...sorry to correct you - it is NOT St Stephens Cathedral in Vienna - i live in Vienna and i would know if it were ... it is the "Basilika von Waldsassen"

  • I know I'm going to get slated for this, but shouldn't the crescendos be more gradual (apart from the end, of course)? I also think it's slightly too fast. I want to enjoy every scary chord change! Other than that, excellent!

  • Actually, I believe I read somewhere that this mass was composed in a more baroque style (Terrasse Dynamics) in order to please constanza who apparently loved baroque music.

  • Mozart was also studying the music of Bach and Handel at the time.

  • @HARMONICO101 Yeah, you can tell! :)

  • @TFreckle That's more than possible. While listening to this part of the mass for the first time, I thought to Bach's crucifixus from the B minor mass ... This song is maybe a tribute from Mozart to the master of baroque music ?

  • Bernstein was such an amazing conductor...he had so much passion for the music that you can see the performers giving their all for him...so wanting to please him....Frederica von Stade is looking at him (though not directly) and is thoroughly enjoying the performance of this wonderful section of the C Minor Mass.

  • Mozart is such a genius...

  • Someone knows which church is it?

  • yes......it`s the Chatedral St.Stephane from Wien......great chatedral

  • No way. I've been inside St. Stephens and it looks nothing like this. It is a gothic cathedral and this one is renaissance/classical revival.

  • It's the part that I like most from Mozart's Grand Mass for sure!

    Such emotion and beauty

  • One of the best choruses ever composed...such drama and emotion...love it!!!!

  • it's true nessie, love and emotion - and great despair
