my ps3 wont get on, i think my power supply is death... hes dont show one of the 3 lights no red no green no yellow :( sory for my bad english i do my best ;)
i tried using my 80 gig first generation ps3 in europe with a voltage converter. It worked once, then the second time I got the yellow then red flashing light. Should I just replace the entire power supply or is there a specific module within the power supply that i have to replace?
@kay7711226 When you point to the suspected trouble component (on the PSU) you neglect there's a FUSE to your LEFT in the video, just to the left of your finger in the video view, the FUSE of any power supply is intended to protect anything else in a surge, so replace that by all means, FIRST! It's much less costly, but it is soldered to the board, which means you heat up the leads and pull it. Cut them on both sides and used tweezer-pliers in one procedure for instance
Ok my red light doesnt show up atall when i turn it on can anyone help i think its power supply but i tried fixing ylod & put it back together & it wasnt getting no power can anyone help ?
@AdamLindsay17 yea it does matter, may not have enough amp or voltage to drive your system. That can damage you system or you can damage his power supply. But you can give it a shot, just dont leave it ON for long ;)
@kay7711226 Tried a PSU that WAS tested good on this, so that means the motherboard of my PS3 that won't turn on is the culprit and could be in other cases. Not the PSU in that instance. I have two BD drives that won't read the media, any of them I have. The hub spins, stops, spins, stops as seen in my video of late, what causes this? The laser mech just goes bad for some reason? I would assume perhaps the spindle motor can also wear out, but why does this happen prematurely anyway?
@ausar2379 yea kinda my happy place dealing with electronics. being an electrician and working in the semi conductor industry makes you appreciate them a bit more :)
Hey that thing you are talking about is a relay! that wont make any difference changing out. Your problem was fixed with bying a new one. Thats cheating :) Often when powersupplies break , there's a capasitor thats worn out. And its often a small one like 1uF in the "primary side" where they cut it up for the switching mode.(sort of a ocsillator) (this is also a switchmode powersupply) Change that, and that old one would probably work. And its NOT a POWER meter. Its called a MULTIMETER!!
I might need to call you for a walkthrough on the meter reader and the actuall power change. Im so freaking lost because Im a moron but I think I have that exact meter reader. Oh and Im pissed at Sony's customer service because it sucks.
i just replaced the psu on my 60gb, it still has a solid red light, no activity at all apart from the eject button makes 3 beeps when you press it. Do you know what i should do now?
@kay7711226 well the forums say that the solid red light means a psu problem. playstation wont give a real answer because they dont want to addmit theres a problem! Thanks for the advice though.
Your problem sounds more like the other main issue i read about....the YLOD and having to "Reflow" the board. Search for that and videos from djwhetzel
That peice you think is the problem looks like a relay. The relay can cause the power supply not to work right. I have to take a closer look at the power supply to confirm that. Also it could be a few transistors that is screw on the heat sink that may be bad also. Great video tho.
Quik question for you ,so if there is a problem wit the pwr spply does it still try to kik on,then shut off and blnk red?or on mine if I hold dwn eject and power at the same time and then switch on the bak switch it runs the fan for a bit then bak off.
The system sometimes will try to turn on or start booting up even tho you got a bad power supply. But then again the power supply isn't always the problem. good luck
tonni702 its not the power supply cause I have the same problem and I thought I needed a new power supply but it still didn't work. If anyone finds out how to fix it then help me out
I need help and I believe is my power supply...the problem with my ps3 is that it has no lights at all, no sound....nothing! Its literally dead...I checked the switch on the back and outlet...nothing worked. Please if you can help. Is it my power supply? I have a 60GB.
No I have not, don't have an extra power supply yet, just don't want to waste the money if its not the supply. But I will try because I ran out of options.
How to check power supply. With the cover off and the 5 pin connector off, I turned on the PS3 and metered the 5 pin connector. It read 5V-5V-0V-0V-0V to ground. The label on the side shows what pin is what. With the power off, I then reconnected the 5 pin and pulled the power supply off the two big prongs. I then placed my meter leads into the holes and powered up the PS3 with the push button. It read 12V right before the PS3 turned off again.
That sounds about rite, difference is on different PS3 models the 5,5,0,0,0 wont be in the same order but there should be 2 pins with a 5v reading. Did u measure the 12V with your meter at DC settings?
What if you have Ylod and then you bought a new power supply and installed? Would the cause be the power supply or the Gpu and cpu chip loosing connection? The power supply should be the problem and go back to green right?
i found a 40gb ps3 for sale that the seller told me the power supple needed to be replaced. Is there a way to check that besides seeing that's the only problem or should i bring it to the store to have checked out?
Dont waste ur money bro, if that was the only problem why didnt he fixed it? If your gonna pay more than $200 for a used PS3 i say put the extra 200 save you the headache.
hey i have a problem with my 20gb ps3. every time i turn on my ps3 the display comes on for about 3 sec and then freezes with little multi-colored boxes. and when i turn it on again my tv says no signal. do i need a new power supply. and i do can i use a 60gb or 80 gb power supply
Hey bro, i dont seem to be understanding fully whats going on with ur system but it seems as if its a bad cable from PS3 to the TV or the TV itself. Shoot me a email explaining in details whats going on ans i might be able to give u a few tips.
If its plugged in there is a good possibility that you will get shocked if ur not careful. You can leave it unplugged for a minute or so and you should be ok.
i seem to have the same problem. Now should I get another power supply 60gb for my ps3 (60gb) or an 80gb because i learned that this problem is suppose to happen to 20 and 60 gb versions and i dont want to get one that will do it again
It looks pretty much the same just the covers that looks a lil different. Just be sure that the power supply ur getting is compatible with ur PS3 system. I can refer you to the seller i got my supply from if you need help.
how are you brother? need help with my ps3 power supply. it always goes back red when i turn it on. how much did you purchased your power supply and where did you bought it? thanks a lot.
