2:38 I've learned, when Gavin says he's bad at things...he's actually bloody amazing =p For instance when he says he's not much of a double-bass drummer...after listening to the insane middle bit of Anethsetise, I'm forced to disagree xD
when i come up with drum parts, i always record it with a riff to put the beat into context. that they sound stupid but not when the beats includes 16th kick patterns, odd snare placements and hi-hat/bell patterns. its so i can show the guitarist how the parts could be used in a riff or rythm without a long explination! in metal music, i see a riff as a drum beat with notes.
@thispagesux yeah, that's probably the best way of writing a song (as a drummer), then taking it to your guitarist and showing him what you've done. Then. hopefully, he can build on it, make a complete guitar part and it's still your song :)
Listening to him reminds me of Neil Peart. Although Neil doesn't talk much, it is evident from Rush's music that Neil writes music and he writes it in such a way as to not have the drums stepping on Geddy or Alex. They mesh so incredibly well and I think that is because Rush writes from the drummer's perspective and the other parts are melded in while other bands write from a guitar perspective and the drummer is left to find something that works.
Hi Mr. Harrison, i have a suggestion for you, less talking and more playing, i would like to hear about that amazin doble-band effect you was talking about, if there is people looking at your videos is because they like your skills and your style, please, give us a little bit of that... story-playing-story-playing... so your audience will be pleased.
This is not Harrisons channel, it's the company that distributes his dvds. Also, this is an excerpt from one of his dvds where he is supposed to just talk.
I think you should avoid silly comments, and pay attention to Gavin also if he's only speaking... try to learn something from this great drummer and avoid ridiculous statements!!!
@alberoto019 You really aren't the brightest bulb! This DVD is meant to have parts like this. If you want to hear him play then look at other clips. This is actually very interesting if you would just give it time!
