  • I've loved them since 1977 and was fortunate enough to see them in NYC in 1982. It's sad they never had the success in U.S. they deserved. I think they were too British in their style and musical themes for Americans to relate to. Punk was a commercial failure in U.S. in the 70s and it was the watered down "new wave" which had commercial success. Groups like Blondie, Clash could only be successful in U.S. when they dropped the punk and became commercial. In 80s, Jam began to change too.

  • 7 Years ago when I was 15, I discovered The Jam and fell and love. The best band in the world and the main reason I got into songwriting. Check us out on my channel if you want, very Jam-inspired.

  • Paul Weller reminds me of Keanu Reeves

  • This is my funeral song for sure!

  • Rickenbackers. <3

  • lyrics still relevant today ! Everything Weller touches turns to gold !

  • We're a three piece band from a town called Cannock, The Jam are one of our biggest influences so If you're a fan of The Jam then please take the time to check out our channel.

    cheers. x

  • It is also wrong on so many levels

  • Esta canción en que album se encuentra?

  • @Romhec321 Going Underground

  • Loved this particular time in music.

The Jam, Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Specials, it was all great music and so much fun! Really liked Paul Weller's later efforts with The Style Council too, but this place in time is truly special. I'm Brazilian and I love The Jam!

  • todo mundo.

  • I'm only 16 but I feel the passion and power everytime I hear the Jam. They are and always will remain my favourite band. I understand all of their songs and despite how much I will always hate Weller for ending them at their pinnacle of fame, they did end at the right time. They represented youth and power and all his ideals changed once he turned into his mid 20s. A reunion would be the greatest thing ever and I'd love Weller forever if he turned his opinion around and did so. JAM FOREVER <3

  • ageless and priceless, this is the bollox

  • LONDON UNDERGROUND

  • Great song !

  • Wish more bands had the same energy as they guys do nowadays.

  • so glad i saw them live in 82.

  • <3

  • im australian and love the jam

  • Please reform lads.....!

  • Rickenbackers! <3

  • Anybody else sing this when they go on the underground?

  • @MissGothicGirlie I sing this when im running

  • @hakc97isback

Good on you :P I love singing this song full stop :)

  • fukin loud ya cunt

  • so glad i saw the Jam at wembley arena in 82..i was one of those who has never been in to paul wellers stuff since then, i think the Jam split too early.

  • Love The Jam . US Wanker saw em in 77/78? at the tower in Philly . Great guys never really dug pauls career after the band . Tops ... Best to all.

  • and the public want what the public get...All those NME bands..so fuckin sad what happened to the music scene here

  • who disliked this?wha??This stuff is uncopyable so original despite the mod thing it's unique..This was Weller at the top none of that boring solo crap and lyrics then were on par with Ray Davies .Public get what the public want. Genius

  • London Underground...

  • muito foda

  • I still like the other version better!!!!!

  • timeless masterpiece!

  • There may never be another 3 piece that can put out a sound so complete as the JAM. Music for the ages...and influences everywhere!

  • Excelente!!! Qué buenos recuerdos! Thank you Paul

  • Not many bands can claim that, at their peak they were very popular and very good. Here is an example of just that. Propelled by Rickenbackers, it's just massive. The clip - bleh: typical very late 70's. Just listen. An all-time ear-worm.

  • ultimate classic song....the jam forever.

  • Classic..one of there best :)

  • 2012...still loving the jam...and im only 16 got plenty of years to listen to them

  • @crimmell same!!

  • Comment removed

  • 1967 The Who was more dangerous and violent live act than, the 1977 Sex pistols was and more punk too ! The Jam is almost good as the Who.

  • @aivopark idk i never seen anyone in the who bleed as much as sid vicious did

  • @willyrandolf I think Sid would never wanted to compete with Keith in bleeding or in any other violent/drug act.

  • @aivopark didnt say he did. just replying to your comment that the who was a more violent live act than the sex pistols which is, with all due respect, a fucking joke

  • This was number one in the UK when I was born!

  • @seahawk124 me too! march 1980 ;)

  • definitely having this at my funeral!

  • the woking boys !

  • Paul Weller is actually.. kinda cute. c:

  • WELLER :D

  • I like this :)

  • maybe an old tune, but still sounds great, no swearing, not racist, which cant be said for a lot of the crap sung today, how many of todays music can the same be said!!!! All they seem to moan/complain about is how hard life is!! Bloody STOP Feeling sorry for yourselves sing some think cheerful happy xmas, im off now to spend the rest of the day havin a drink and singsong.

  • @doug4358 There certain irony about you saying they complain, whereas this song is complaining about society, so really it's bad example you provide. True they said it in a more clever way, but they are bitching about still. As for song, I love it, but just found your comment so hilariously ironic.

  • mods are pussies man, that shit's fuckin dead!

  • He looks like facking Keanu Reaves!

  • Skinny with zits so much cooler than puffy and preened.

  • I dont get why people class the jam as punk

  • @tuzza688 Back when The Jam played, punk was all about being unique, making music on your terms regardless of what others thought, not just screaming and breaking up stuff. By that standard I'd say The Jam were punk.

  • @guitardedboy Trust me, there is still bands like that, check out NOFX, Strike Anywhere and few others, there is still is real punk bands, promise ya.

  • @Fontroy nofx fucking sucks dick HARD

  • @guitardedboy ehh! they were mods!

  • @guitardedboy True. People "who weren't there" think Siouxsie was a Goth but of course she was a Punk. She just looked like a Goth.

  • @tuzza688 They came out about the same time as the punk movement. Their early album In the City is more punk than the rest of their albums but Weller was more influence by what we would class as Mod bands from the 60's like the Small Faces and soul music really. Great band, saw them twice.

  • Love that sound ;)

  • 138 people should go underground

  • Saw From The Jam live last week. was unbelievable. met bruce and russell backstage! got an autograph, photo with them and sat and chatted with them. unbelievable bunch of lads! need a reunion though xD

  • choose your leaders and place your trust as the lies wash you down and promises rust... TOO RIGHT!

  • maaan keanu reeves with guitar

  • :)

  • Timeless song. Hardly any bands out there these days that make music that matters. Search 'Littlemores - Have You Seen The News' for a young band that I saw at the escobar in Leeds not to long ago. Breath of fresh air.

  • @sgtpeppers322 - mate, if you dont think there are great bands making loads of relevant music today you're listening to the wrong radio stations. There are loads of great bands out there. I'm 40 & I love music from the 60's right through to today. I have bought 4 new CD's this year & every one has been great. Tune in to triple J in Australia via the internet. An alternative station that plays great music. Jan 26th is Australia Day and they will count down the top 100 of 2011

  • @sgtpeppers322 check out the asbestos tampons i swear you'll love 'em they are a local band from the steel city

  • Fucking Love the jam real british musical talent!

  • 31 years on and I STILL get goose bumps.

This is THE song of that era ...

Paul's first # one, straight in at # one and still # one in my book.

  • THE CLASH, THE JAM, THE SEX PISTOLS, FUCK YEAH BRITISH 1970S

  • @andyholmes121 AND JOY DIVISION MAN

  • wish paul would get his head out of is own backside and re form just for the fans made him what he is

  • @max29july Max you see the shortlist interview with PW ,sayin he would never be that SKINT to reform The Jam...only 3 folk would want to see the reform... U Foxton and Buckler!!!

  • @max29july THE VERY BEST THE JAM

  • to be honest, zero punctuation led me here, and I have something else to thank him for

  • 44 Yrs old, discovered the Jam when I was 12 as a weird suburban outcast outside of NYC, where no one knew who they were. Their songs and message have been a constant in my life. Now I'm a kickass adult and passing the legacy of Paul, Bruce and Rick (yes, calling them by their first names because I feel like they're older brothers) onto my kids.

  • The Jam were one of those bands whos sound was 'English' with a capital E, like the Who, Clash, Small Faces, Kinks, Pulp, Motorhead, Hawkwind, Specials, Pink Fairies, early P.Floyd and others, they sang songs that struck a chord in musical Englishness. Just as much as C&W did at the Grand Old Oprey or New Orleans & its own Jazz sound, or even SLF's music which has an Ulster heartbeat.

Anyway, this is one of the better singles from that roster of 'English' sounding bands from down the decades.

  • Paul Wellers son was in my year in Primary school :D saw Paul coming down every day in his green mini with a checked top, and he never got out of being a mod, legend lives on

  • @fronoc Cool,he was a good student?its cool be a classmate of a famous people children?

  • im gonna admit it... football factory brought me here

  • @DanHopk you're here, thats all that matters

  • @leeham987 i've been here since i first watched it, it's a brilliant song!

  • Which album was this on?

  • @robsterlobster01 none of their studio albums, but every one of their 'Best' ones!

  • @robsterlobster01 Its on "Compact Snap"

  • i were in hasting 77 and i both all around the world and carnaby street . this is for me the best band ever. going underground is the jam and paul weller. i hope to see him again before i die

  • I discovered this song years ago watching looking after jojo haha

    Luv this song ! !

  • Yup! we'er back in the deep brown coloured smelly stuff again. Jam was on key then on key now.

  • And all the songs on all their albums were amazing.

  • its all circular....mass unemplyment etc welcome to thatchers britain again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • classic

  • I'm only 20 years old, and these songs from this era are way better than the shit being written now!

  • @DaleTownsley well said m8 (im 46)

  • I hear this song and I am energised then I see Eaton Rifles and Thats Enretainment on the right hand side and I just think WOW the Jam were great Thanks for that Guys

  • I PREFER THE PARADY

  • "You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns" Weller sings in 1980. what's changed?

  • i can't stop singing the "London Underground" lyrics! grrrr...

  • @MelissaMaggot666 what the parady?

  • @hughcri yes..xD

  • @hughcri london underground

  • I hate how i knew London Underground before this, because this is such a tuuuuuuuuunnnnnneeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a great song but if you like this you may like to search:

THE VINYLS-GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD

It'll only take 3mins and this band are AMAZING!

  • sick of autotuning bands of today d;

  • The poet of my youth. His "Fuck Off" lyrics hit everything on the nail and were great songs too. Never been anything else like The Jam.

  • I do not care what anyone says the jam were one of the best and most underrated bands of all time but as far the style council they were shit did about 3 good songs and made weller look a joke, compare this classic jam song to the style council you just can't!

  • Daz, he felt like he had to something else, different, fresh; right or wrong. There was never going to be another or 'better' Jam. You couldn't expect someone like Paul Weller to end up in a pathetic state like The Stones or U2, trotting out the same stuff for decades?

  • this= epic talent, most of the stuff today= auto tune

  • Bass, drums, guitar and a young Paul Weller. Who needs any more.

  • We are an indie/mod rock band from Bristol. Take a look at our channel and Facebook page for gig info and the latest tracks. Show some support and spread the word!

  • Great tune, Cant get enough of them!! x

  • Loving this for the 2 Rickenbackers I see. Lovely.

  • @sharker93

I cry with jealousy every time I watch this video. There so... lurvly.... <3<3<3<3<3<3

  • "you choose your leaders and place your trust, as their lies wash you down and their promises rust, you'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns, and the public wants what the public gets"

    PURE CLASS

  • "..some people might get some pleasure outta hate, me? i've enough already on my plate.." Priceless! Love it.

  • he lost his anger and lost his vision. He knows were back to the same era now!!

  • can you imagine being bruce foxton and rick buckler and paul weller says one day " hey guys its been great making good music with you guys but i decided to start making horribly dull music with the dude from merton arkas... sorry 'bout that" i love the jam .

  • Ladies and gentlemen, stage set by Tippex!

  • My dad and I dance to this in the car. I don't care what the guy in the other car thinks. From what he sees, he probably thinks we're listening to pop music from the way I'm dancing XD

  • very fun song??????????do you know what the song is about you idiot

  • You're nothing but a chat show! LOL

  • @logicalChris Fuck off you stupid tosser

  • @N64ryan and you are?

  • words are so true, well before there time

  • After all the years that have passed, i still cannot listen to a Jam song without thinking of my dear friend from Lakenheath England, Vanessa, (Nessy) taken at just 38 years old. She Loved the Jam. God Bless you Nessy, wherever your looking down from.

  • i found out about the jam from my mum!! tnx ma!!

  • My brother loved The Jam RIP bro miss ye soooooooooooooooo much xxxx

  • favorite pre-punk...... thx

  • @undoneHC They weren't pre-punk, they started out pretty much at the same time as all the other punk rockers like Clash, Ramones and Pistols. They difference with the Jam is that they were labeled as a mod revival band but they certainly had all the aggression of the other punk bands!

  • Great fun!

    Thank you.

    xx

  • "The public gets what the public wants, but I want nothing society wants" F#$%n brilliant. Nothing like that being written today,

  • @jack1059 check out Eddie Vedder mate :P

  • @jack1059

iv just ripped it off haha

  • great song! check out rawcuss TV fantasies on youtube

  • Zero Punctuation brought me here.

  • i used to be the only guy that knew this. i love this band

  • I know times change, but i wish I could run across some band - any band - that gets me half as excited as i was when I first discovered The Jam.

Popular music today is just soooooooo boring. Where do you find anything interesting?

  • Mods haha. You have the love those days of Brit punks dressing like the Beatles while here in the states it was devilocks, mohawks and leather jackets.

  • I'was in love with THE JAM in the end of 70, but now i'ts really nothing (i'm sad, so sad, sad so fucking sad).

  • funny ones better xx

  • the song of my life

saw them too in 1980. Paradiso Amsterdam.

Brits literally jumping from the balconies and walking over the sea of mods

  • Pure class...............

  • yess when u listen this song, u can't be wrong, this bass is really a rickenbacker :-)

  • Why can't anyone do something that comes even close to this now?

  • @captaincomputa Wild guess; they are not hungry and angry enough. You need a spark, passion and skills. I guess today living is far too easy. Anyone can make music with machines. Then again, there are many indie bands who do something like this today, but there's only one Jam.

  • @captaincomputa cause that was then and this is now, stating the obvous- but is sadly the answer

  • @Tranquillumgrooves How depressing it all is now

  • :-)

  • The braying sheep on my TV screen, make this boy shout, make this boy scream !

  • brilliant

  • Great song.. superb band!

  • I really liked the bit where they played the song.

  • Paul Weller at his best, Aggresive! stuff he did after the Jam was Shite!

  • @DarkSpineSonic11 Its been like thatthe last 30 odd years :)
