Saw this movie yesterday, and I was absolutely heart-broken. Easily one of the top ten best films I've ever seen, and this scene is one of the saddest. But one thing I didn't fully understand. When John said "He killed them with their love", I understand that he was referring to how both of the two girls wanted to sacrifice herself in order to save her sister, but what did he mean by "That's how it is, every day, all over the world"?

Humans always hang others out to save their own butts. He's just referring to how people take advantage of others for their own personal gain.
