  • @Tinamusicreggaeluv The colours yello and orange are generally associated with Osun the mother of divenation and the goddess of beauty, are procreation and love. Ila are cut into the skin so as to apply spiritual medicine inside the blood stream.

  • @Tinamusicreggaeluv Oyotunji is in the country and we just a few pot holes caused by rains seasonally. How ever we are working to make the Oyotunji village weel chair acessable. May you can be instrumental in this effort by telling us what weelchair users need exactly. Adupe (thanks).

  • I have met many nigerians and for the most part they have treated me with respect.I can't say that about myself because i have not always given them respect coming up me and my friends were very racist towards them.I feel bad how we treated them back then and thats why i take up for them now.

  • Now, that is a beautiful sister with a flourishing spirit. I love you my sisters.

  • "Yes you should be black to be African and be of the African culture. Why don't you stick to the Roman Catholic church of your ancestors. Your religion, culture was forced on us by the Roman Empire and Inquisition. You may pray, but it doesn't mean anything cause you still a Roman just the same."

Christianity is from the Middle East not Italy.

  • But i have real Nigerian born parent with nothing but African in our blood but i was born in America and i'm ibibio and boki. and my family is catholic. Where does that leave me?

  • @coffee2956 You are a well rounded African who knows her roots and culture, and shouldn't let ANYBODY intimidate you simply because your religion is Catholicism!

Yoruba is a tribe,identity/ethnicity, which involves religious practices, but it is NOT a religion, as BAs' tend to think!

I'm also from Cross River (Calabar/Efik), so we are very similar, you being Ibibio, in fact I schooled in Ibibio-land,so I know most of us are UNASHAMEDLY Christians, it doesn't take away OUR ETHNICITY!

    PEACE!!

  • LMFAO!

Isn't it so funny how the products of ARAB SLAVERY, are the 1st ones to pick ARAB names and embrace ARAB culture, rather than their AFRICAN culture, then have the affront to diss those Africans/African Americans, who know who, what, and where they are!

Self hatred and low self esteem is the biggest and nastiest curse anybody can inflict upon themselves, and the worst aspect is CHOOSING to do it!

    ABID AL HARAM!..LMFAO!

  • Odiok ono fi eyen ofin! Afo edi idiok unam ikot mkpo, afo ideghe owo!

Tu tu mkpa ada fi udu woro'ke mkpo!

  • Yes you should be black to be African and be of the African culture. Why don't you stick to the Roman Catholic church of your ancestors. Your religion, culture was forced on us by the Roman Empire and Inquisition. You may pray, but it doesn't mean anything cause you still a Roman just the same.

  • there is a mis-conception that Yoruba is solely a "religion" and we can only attach ourselvs to it emotionaly. Point in fact it is a culture and the religious part... well just celebrates the culture. Are you well versed in the cultural and being Italian i am sure you know the importance of culture.

  • i was born in uk but my family's are originally from from nigeria ijebu ode , we are all ooduwa .

  • Ni ase kan ki fagbara se emi ko le ko lo jujasi ...I am compelled by a spiritual force I cannot resist...This is what has drawn diaspora Afrikans and myself to reclaiming our Ancestral way.Kwaseb, with all due respect I don't think you'll ever understand your Ancestral spirit stayed on the motherland.Let us be glad the broken chain is being mended-those old African souls are coming home.Ase oooo

  • I'm a Yoruba son with the name Adeyemi meaning the crown suits me. Born in the UK but increasingly unhappy due to strong cultural memories of living in Africa and persisting consciousness. Felt I left something that needs reconnecting to and that this has to be achieved before I die but more importantly for my sanity. I'm from the Aro ruling Clan in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State. Your consciousness of the motherland is awesome. I'll visit the Yoruba village and croon Yoruba songs. E seun O.

  • Waoh! I'm veryy impressed. Thank you for remembering your roots.

  • What did Iya Ebun say in yoruba and translate?

  • IFA has called me and pulled me to its bosom. it has saved me from a path of ignorance and self destruction. MO FE BO IFA. MAFEREFUN ORISHAS MI O!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What makes anyone think this is an overall African Way of life. I am From GHana and I resent some of the practices or cultures of Ghana and so do others, but it does not make us less of a Ghanaian. THis is what some people need to realize. Ignorance is a bitch.

  • BLESSED BE!!! AXE'!!! :)

  • wonderful. i aim to pay a visit!

  • Americans cant understand this they are to closed minded and ignorrant to even believe that affrica is developed in cultural fields for many thousands of years.

  • yoruba orula ifa and all these saints come from affrica but it has nothing to do with color location or race when it comes to cultural beliefs, yes it orriginaten from nigeria and brought to the americas when slaves where brought. it is one of the strongest in Cuban tradition called afrocuban

  • You have valid points thanks for your comment we aare all of African decent .

  • Is it possible to go there for a visit???...

  • Always a laugh when people ask for real omo yoruba. Every human being is a mix of sorts even in Africa. Even in the homeland. What matters is how you want to be identified. There is no 100% Yoruba or any race for that matter. Especially in Africa, where people have moved from place to place as a way of life.

  • Where is it located???

  • Beaufort county south carolina in the township of sheldon..

  • Im reading and 1 YORUBA are a people not a religion 2 We are muslims, christians, idol worshippers and way much more so Yourba are a ppl and not a way of life nor a religion...get your facts straights PLZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • yoruba are a ppl of nigeria that fought with tribes around it and the practiced santeria way of life and culture till they became slaved by north america and it was lost but in cuba the slaves that were brought had more privilages and freedom to their culture and it is still worshiped with the diffrent lenguages and saints as , elegua, ochun, yemaya, orivacua, orula, ogun ext...

  • Alafia,

Santeria is Afro Cuban based on the yoruba, the true name of the Yoruba religion is IFA!!

  • curious to know....why there are only blacks? what about those who convert to yoruba, it wasn't just a culture or race, but more importantly a religion, a way of life....in todays way, colour doesn't matter, so i ask....are light skinned people welcome?

  • I am so happy to have finally discovered the yoruba religion. Deep in my heart I never had a connection with the european views of religion and what it's done to brainwash our people still. Thank you.

  • Well what were u really exploring? A re-connection back to ur ancestry, a religious sect, an African way of life or what? How do u know u have found anything profound? What makes u believe this is not brainwashing in itself? Come on I want your answers not n e one else's.

  • Very noble endeavor! Never knew such a community existed. Glad it does...

  • nice to see my brothers and sisters again I am so proud of them from ba ba kojo annini I will see you soon peace and blessing

  • Wow! This is beautiful.

  • My family and some friends went to visit Oyotunji years ago. We had a great time..and Yes we are Nigerian Yoruba. Please, people stop with the negative comments. These people are trying to enlighten America especially Black America about Yoruba culture.

  • Thanks for the positive comments.weshouldent war with each other over boundaries made by Europeans

  • i want to know if there are any actual omo Yoruba in this place????

  • what do you mean?Omo oduduwa?Omo Edo?Do you mean born in the east......no.This is the first attemp to establish a yoruba state in America,it was done in brazil ,cuba, and many other islands.Maybe you should see the film Quilombo. But Oyotunji is the first of its kind in the US and yes many "omo yoruba" attend and support our endeavors,The name of the pod is Soul Searching and not Soul Found.

  • this is about african spirituality

  • Was that a question or an answer?

  • i find yorubas loud there food stinks and they are cowardly people. what????

  • i take it that you are An American Gringo,That says it all.huh?

  • yeah where the fuck are you from then?

  • sorry about this comment iwas drunk and pissed off with my yoruba neighbour i am Nigerian myself

  • amazing...very good video. Thank you so much for posting this, I have been stuying the Yoruba culture and this video I found while seeing what was on youtube...anyways..I'm rambling...thank you so much for sharing this.

  • What is this? Nothing like Yoruba culture. This is just having a laugh, right? Surely people don't think Yorubas are like this! ROFLMAO!

  • Thanks for your comment....?

  • You're welcome. The bastardization of Yoruba culture is a violation for true Yorubas; but this video, is just pure comedy. Great job, guys!!! Keep up the good work. Beats Seinfeld or Raymond - it's THAT funny!

  • This is wonderful! It inspirer's me to see African- Americans (Africans) not afraid of our own heritage and culture and what's more celebrating it! I can only hope that more and more of our community will see that we do not have to change our religion to be apart of our own culture. Tafadhali (please) keep up the good work!! Asante Sana.

  • African-Americans (Africans)? For shizzle?

ROFLMAO. What country in Africa are African-Americans from? And what ethnicity? I await the answer. (holding my breath!) He he he!

  • Good point. The Africans in America are from the yoruba ,Ibo,Hausa.Fulani,Edo manding,Wolof Dogan and so on.But African American does not clearly define these peoples origin.Because Africa as its called today has many ethnic groups you have to find out which you belong to.

  • Africans in America come from all sorts of places. There is a big South African, East African (Somali & Ethiopia spring to mind), Nigerian, Ghanaian, etc populace. They are rather different from black Americans, who are not Africans at all. Else, what color is their passport? I believe we're on the same page.

  • Sorry, what? If we're not Africans then what are we, Europeans? Arabs? What are you talking about? Please enlighten me. If you believe our ancestors didn't come from "Africa" then where?

  • This is great. Well done!

  • I think this is my favorite piece you've done yet!!!! Wow.

  • The last comments rang so true.

  • It's a wonder in itself to see the intensity and passion that goes into making these short films. "i'm your biggest fan". :)

  • Alafia! back in 1995, I went to the village. It was fantastic.

  • Oyotunji, your videos make a very, very powerful cultural statement and i am placing them in the RBG Afrikan Centered Cultural Development and Education Web Portal immediately.

Link from any of my video "More" Drop Downs and see video section of TOC, In Fact i'm going to give them front page billing.

    Holla Blak/Asante Sana

  • Adupe pupo for your support....there are many options for African Americans in passing on the rich Historry to the next generations..in the Kingdom of Oyotunji! Thanks for the link and promotional support. May the ancestors continue to bless and guide you!!!Igberohinjade
