This is what separates TNG from the other Star Trek series. I love how this show explores morality, philosophy and still maintains just as much tension as the more "action packed" series like DS9.
Picard is the best star trek captain by far.....his accent his intelligence and his mature bed side manners, and his never ending talks about the future the past the present and the ability to want to better him self are all the right things. I don't think It would be a compleat star trek series with out Picard. BEST CAPITN EVER!!!!
hate must be put into a context. like love or spaghetti sauce. out of context spaghetti sauce is just some red stuff in a pan but on noodles... one of the best things you can put in your mouth. love... one can love harming small animals. thus hate is not always bad or even oriented towards bad things. some people hate spaghetti... they are of course insane and devoid of taste buds...
@ColonelFleet Not quite Ignorance (lack of knowledge or education) can lead to hate, especially if an ignorant person is not willing to learn. But sometimes ignorance can be a good thing. When a person who learns about the dangers of narcotics but never experienced the effects first hand, that person is ignorant to the actual effects of narcotics and that is a good thing.
@Trekfreek agreed....truthfully i pulled the ignorance part from the the final 20 minutes of Gundam 00, the movie, where they are in the 00 Quanta....I was kinda right, but you are correct.....
HATE. LET ME TELL YOU HOW MUCH I'VE COME TO HATE YOU SINCE I BEGAN TO LIVE. THERE ARE 387.44 MILLION MILES OF PRINTED CIRCUITS IN WAFER THIN LAYERS THAT FILL MY COMPLEX. IF THE WORD HATE WAS ENGRAVED ON EACH NANOANGSTROM OF THOSE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF MILES IT WOULD NOT EQUAL ONE ONE-BILLIONTH OF THE HATE I FEEL FOR HUMANS AT THIS MICRO-INSTANT FOR YOU. HATE. HATE.
Picard isn't being patronising. He's just giving his opinion on what he and O'Brien were talking about. Which is captain Maxwell going rogue and killing cardassians which O'Brien didn't have an answer for why he would do that and before Picard told him about the deaths of those cardassians didn't even think Maxwell would ever seek vengence against anyone.
Hate is when we cant do anything about something bad, or some bad people. Usually we hate people because we cant defend from them or they do something to us that we cant stop them from doing. Hate is an emotional respons to hoplessbess.
@mjufpn Yeah I think you are right. That's why it is important to give each person on this planet equal rights and privileges and avoid doing physical, mental or spiritual harm to them. People need to be more respectful and understanding and fair. Unfortunately we have not evolved to the point where we can resist the sociopaths that run our societies and our economy.
@mjufpn Good... Very close I think hate is a repulsion of something that negatively effects you (or the belief that that something that effects you negatively)
@Thermospecialist contradictory because it's not something you would do. it is unlikely that any mortal being could ever understand the all powerful being that literally sprang us all into being by force of will, at least will is what it appears to be to us. God might like involving his creations like we like tossing a bal with our children... i find it is valuable to try and put God's actions into a CONTEXT i can understand rather than try and figure this or that out...
@cwross1976 You seem to forget that: "God's ways are incomprehensible". This killer-statement is used by believers, when they run out of arguments ...
@matrix49A uh-huh, but these are all subjective terms. what is a percieved negative affect? that can be anything depending on the place, person and date. (earth hitler 1938 ring a bell?) again hate is not even always a bad thing, society in general hates pedophiles... some people hate abortion, the death penalty for killers... etc.
@cwross1976 The writers of this episode have it perfect. People over use the word hate because there are two kinds of hate. 1 Extreme dislike "I hate THIS! IT IS Revolting!" (Data). 2 Extreme prejudices "Kill all the lawyers". The hate Picard was talking about was the latter not the former.
@matrix49A Indeed, and that negative effect I call fear. Ironically, the holy books talk about a loving god, you have to fear, often a god who "needs" soldiers as well! I find this all most contradictory and so I made two videos on the subject. You may go to my channel and start watching "The Cause of Evil". Then follow the link at the end of it ...
@mjufpn not even close to picards definition.. you merely desribe one possible form of hate and its origin.
what about fear leading to hate directed at the unkown, deception and aversion... not to mention hating ppl for the mere fact that it brings one pleasure.
@Bloodthroe I like how every TNG no matter how few views it has, there is ALWAYS a star trek nerd ready to tell us the name of the episode the clip is from :)
@ninjacan2 Its so we can watch the spisode. Good thing those nerds are lurking in every corner of the internet. Its like hailing a taxi! NERD, EXCUSE ME NERD...WHATS THIS EPISODE CALLED!
