Very sloppy performance. Callas was always such an overrated singer. Her voice is all over the place, She has nice feeling for the work, but it stops there.Callas was good in her early days , but blew her voice out singing the wrong repetoire for he r voice. If you want to hear a perfect version of this aria tou should listen to Callas' idol. The Rosa Ponselle version

I disagree with many of the coments that say " Callas did not have enough beauty of voice for this piece.Actually it is not the voice , but the beauty of intention that makes one rendition better or as good as another, and here she certainly delivers a perfomance to almost rival Renata`s If you really listen to both properly you realise you are overhearing a prayer, a private conversation with God ! The impression from both these great singers is that it comes from way deep inside!!!

Bello, ma è inutile nelle arie liriche molto dolci Renata Tebaldi è molto più brava, con la bellezza della sua voce la Callas non ha mai potuto competere... infatti la Callas fece Leonora solo 5 volte, la Tebaldi 52 !

Tebaldi has a warmer and richer tone. But still a very good interpretaion from Callas.

@tebaldicallas I agree. In an aria such as this that requires sheer beauty of tone, Tebaldi is better than Callas, and so is Cerquetti, Milanov, and Boninsegna. I love them all, including Callas, but the others simply excel. In other material, Callas is supreme.

davanti alla Forza del Destino, la Vergine degli Angeli, la Callas... non so, non riesco ad esprimere un giudizio ... prevale sempre l'emozione,la commozione.

A volte mi chiedo: come abbia fatto un semplice uomo a "generare" un capolavoro di bellezza e sublimità così elevato! Così infinitamente più grande della mente umana...

@simisimi9 - I yield to none in my admiration, reverence and devotion to Callas. She was THE diva of the Twentieth Century. That said, Callas' supremacy does NOT relegate Tebaldi to chopped liver. I am well aware of Callas' unmatched accomplishments in a huge repertoire, but I cannot as a musician disrespect Tebaldi's magnificent voice and gorgeous phrasing. I don't know how two such great sopranos can be compared -- Callas was an interpretative genius and Tebaldi had vocal plush.
