@Agent1W I guess there is a lot of insecurity about closeness to God. I feel close to God when I'm in nature, or dancing, or sometimes doing the dishes. I used to feel close to God when I did housework. I wonder what happened with that? But when I feel close to God, I don't feel like it's a contest. I think everyone should feel that way as often as possible, and do the things which bring that feeling of closeness. The Jewish is basically God run through Jewish filters. God is not limited thusly.

He isn't right about Conservative, it takes 1 to 2 years to convert through the Conservative movement. They follow Halachic conversion laws but he is right that the Conservative movement has recently allowed clergy to decide if they want to allow gay "commitment ceremonies" (not marriages), and the organization allows gay rabbis. This I personally dislike and is moving me toward Orthodox. The Court is called a beit din, conservative movement has one as well.

Persian Jews would most likely be called Mizrahi. Some mistakenly call everything that is not Ashkenazi is Sephardic, but Sephardic only means Jews who have family that was descended from the Jews of Spain who were expelled during the Inquisition or who lived in Spain and continued to practice. Not Jews from Spain/Portugal who moved there afterwards. Mizrahi means East, though this includes Jews of non-Sephardic Africa and Asia and parts of Latin America as well.

I am from a Reform Synagogue, which is similar to Conservative and some Modern Orthodox. There has been a real turn around in some Reform Temples, to study and try to keep the laws of Halachka, we keep Kashrut and Shabbat, also. My Father's family is Jewish and if I were not in such a good Reform Temple, I would drive the extra fifty miles to a conservative Congregation. I just mention this because the Reform movement in the 1990s and early 00s has swung back to more traditional.

I used to feel close to God when I did housework. I wonder what happened with that? But when I feel close to God, I don't feel like it's a contest. If you are a woman and you want to convert to Judaism you have to strip off naked and sit in a bath (mikvah) while a group of old Rabbis perv on you to make sure you're OK to join.

He isn't right about Conservative, it takes 1 to 2 years to convert through the Conservative movement. They follow Halachic conversion laws but he is right that the Conservative movement has recently allowed clergy to decide if they want to allow gay "commitment ceremonies" (not marriages), and the organization allows gay rabbis. This I personally dislike and is moving me toward Orthodox. The Court is called a beit din, conservative movement has one as well.
