I just wondered that now myself. The fact that Buffy and Faith were both slayers at the same time suggests that though a new slayer is chosen when one dies there isn't a transference of power, once a slayer is activated it seems they retain that power even after death. Generally though once dead that becomes meaningless but Buffy still had her powers after she was revived, I'd imagine Vampire Faith would have them as well. The soul would be lost in becoming a vampire, not her body.

I take it Faith COULD have killed Xander but didn't and that's why they try to save her? (plus they like her!)

I really love how open it is to interpretation- Buffy might be in love with Faith or they might just be friends, Willow's spell might just give her back her soul or turn her human. I liked that the ending was focused on the two of them but it might have been nice to see them going after Angel.
