This tells us everything we need to know about Jack without anyone saying a word. He is a pirate who needs a ship. He likes to present himself as more important than he really is. He is superstitious (saluting the dead pirates) but confident in his own survival (ignoring the warning sign). And when the universe spoils his plans, he is able to improvise, come out on top, and make it look as if he planned everything.

I saw the Jack Sparrow entrance and I was like, "that's COOL, what a great actor!"
