  • Mart, nice video if you still have the car, can you give us a video going through gears?

  • Actaully your camera did awsome behind the windscreen.

  • thanks for the spin.... nice roads

  • Cool ride!

  • Cool ride!

  • Update: Punch this into a search - Flathead Meltdown 21 stud grudge match - You will see me in Old Rusty beating my pal Gavin in his 32 truck - both running old 21stud flatties.

    He ran a 20 I ran a 18. i later squeaked a high 17.. Not bad for a 21stud on a single carb through a 3 speed and banjo axle.

Oh year - it still rattles when cold.

    Mart.

  • Pull the plugs and fill cyls with ATF,let it sit for a day, spin it with no plugs, fire it up. No kidding it works done it a hundred times (buy and sell old cars)

  • HEHE nice comentating Mart. Tim Harrison here off the HRMD board. Loved the video!

  • any knowledge on the history of american UK car from the 30's/40's...i have never seen a right hand drive such as this

  • mart that is truly a beautiful car! and what a pritty drive on that ol road! thanks for sharing with the world. i dream about having one of my own someday.. if my days will last long enough,

  • Looking great Mart- even after all these years. And a 17.03!?! That's pretty good.

  • Thanks for all the comments fellas. The car is now running a new built french flatty with a 4" stroke crank. It also has a newly rebuilt 39 box. It's running great, except for a bit too much blowby. I'll be pulling the pistons and rings to rehone the bores. I ran 17.03 at the Nostalgia Drags on my second run, which I was pleased with.

  • Beautiful car....

  • Wow what a awesome care.

    Thanks for shearing :)

I didn't think people in the UK owned cars like this..

  • one of the pistons is in backwards, WHAT? does this mean the cyl will run in the other direction?

  • It's not a biggie. The wrist pin is offset slightly to one side to reduce noise when cold. One of mine is in backwards so it's a littlle noisy at startup. I always baby it when cold so I don't worry about it.

the engine had been running well for a long time before I noticed the odd piston, so I left it alone.

  • what a dumb fuck keeping that car outside covered with a tarp, duh he wonders why it got wet

  • Hey, more positive vibes from gwillo1.

  • Love this vid. From the water on the engine & hand cranking it, to the switch for the pump - letting it heat up to evap the moisture, then the clanky run dow the road... Classic home video. Nice!

  • This guy that owns this car is not too bright .starting it up with a piston in backwards, doing not even checking the oil or the engine after it has been sitting for so long,I would strangle this idiot if I was there the english moron has got his head too far up his ass,I had a 49 flathead ford and I would never run the engine like that without doing maintenance on it

  • Old Rusty is one of my favorite homebuilt rods. It is an inspirational legend!

  • Wonderful old Ford! Enjoyed the trip through the countryside too!

  • wouldnt mind having one for myself, of course I Have to give it a bit more kick then a flat-head can give. Hopfully you get a fair bit of money to rebuild and correct The ticking, were it me IT would drive me insane.

  • You can get a fair bit of punch out of those flat heads if you build them right. My friend's Dad built and raced them his whole life, and he was getting 350-400 hp out of them. It's hard to believe, but i have no reason at all to doubt him, and have even seen his work.

  • excellent mart, very enjoyable.
