If he wishes to sing this pop song, he should sing it in understanable English. Poor Carreras, what a pity he did not sing good opera instead of selling out for money.

I agree, he would have made an excellent phantom. He has the acting skills ( see Juliàn Gayarre) and no question about the voice - tons better than Michael Crawford who went down a storm in London. He does not have a strong Catalan accent when he sings in English -I'm an English teacher and his pronunciation is excellent. Anyway, who cares....just enjoy the beauty of his voice. Visca Catalunya. And don't forget to get on the list of platelet/bone marrow donors.

Mr Carreras is one of the truly great tenors -I find it sad that no-one will acknowledge this until it is too late - he already had a near miss so appreciate what beautiful phrasing, perfect pitch and incredible emotion this man imparts....thank you for your beautiful voice and your incredible humanity -for me, better than Di Stephano and your idols.

He is still handsome--more than ever, I think. He wears his age well. His voice is a thing of great beauty. I only wish I'd known of him before. I feel I've missed out by not knowing of him sooner in my life...

I know Antonio Banderas did a good job singing with Sarah Brightman and he would've also made a good Phantom. His accent is not as strong. Now HE would have had a better opportunity than Carreras.

Beautifully done. :) If he were in the 2004 movie instead of Gerard Butler (now don't get me wrong, I liked Gerard Butler; he was very good), it would've been very cool; he would've actually made a good Phantom. But with his age and strong Catalan accent taken into consideration (even though his English is pretty darn good), I don't think he would have had a good chance.

@eurydike I agree with you but still, he is a great singer better then that actor that played the phantom the movie version. The actor was not ugly either but he got the role any how - and worse he couldn't sing that well. I was dissapointed really the singing was not good in the whole film good acting though but that was all.
