Always did love this stuff. It was such great music it didn't need a whole freaking opera to support it, like they need nowadays. A great voice, a guitar, some bass, a bit of drum and then there's magic!!!!

Wow a 78 rpm Record was was upgraded to 45 round about 59. If you would have dropped one of those graphite slabs it was goodbye because they were heavy and would definitely break. They really partied off of this type of stuff in the 50's, this was good stuff. This is the roots of rock & roll and much more. Amazingly they only had a few record labels then like Vee Jay, Chess, Atlantic and later King.

@buzzler745555 I am glad that you like old songs. Just because something is old doesn't make it not cool. This song also came out before I was born and I have loved it all my life. You must have a great ear for music I am glad that this fine Artist can give you a present of her talent, even today. Lavern was a great woman, she still keeps giving, What she leaves behind is a wonderful good feeling, I am glad that as young as you are that you appreciate it, and I know she would to.

Glorious song! One of the best songs ever written i believe! The lyrics are sublime. I'm going to put her version/style as a clean split btw. blues and pop. She's got the blues sound but she definitely added the squeaky clean pop feel. Then of course Dorothy Collins takes it to pure pop cleaner than a brand new whistle. Then of course Elvis who sang but never recorded it infused his Rockabilly roots..um shall we say pure raunch? But beautiful fun raunch! God bless them all for the glorious music

LaVern Baker was a tremendous talent, sadly however, her record company often saddled her with often poor material, as they seemed to promote her as a novelty act. At one point, even forcing on her a "boyfriend" named "Stumpy" (Who seemed to have walked out from a "minstrel" show), who sat on stage, looking bored, while she sang!
