HI-LO´s stórlega vanmetnir áhrifavaldar og forverar Manhattan Transfer, Four Freshmen , Beach Boys og ekki síst Take Six í hnausþykkum fjórrödduðum söng...
I was raised, listening to this remarkable, innovative and extremely talented group. I LOVE them. My mom bought the album which contained this song. I would listen to it for hours. They had beautiful voices, perfect pitch and harmony....impeccable. I was 8 years old in 1957. The present group, which comes closest to their style, is Take 6. They sing and harmonize beautifully....I wouldn't be surprised if Take 6 was influenced by the Hi Lo's.
@MALP1231 Take 6 is my favorite a cappela group and when I just started listening to Take 6 at the beginning they would mention the Hi-Lo#s as one of their influences....that's when I looked up these guys and fell in love! As you rightly said....impeccable!!!!
@mozart77 Thank you for that information. I think Take 6 is the top when it comes to A capella singing and jazz harmonies. I've always loved the Hi-Lo's as well, and I didn't realize they were an influence on Take 6.
thanks for posting this song i remember my dad played it when he was even younger than i am now (65) the very modern Frank Comstock big band; i loved it then when i was about ten i think, and i love it today and i enjoyed all what came between then and now
I had nat king cole version live in Paris of this....great as you can imagine but these cats killed it with those ahrmonies and falsettos.Reminds me of the old disney soundtracks LOVE IT
With all due respect, NrZol, the "new things" that everybody's listening to is unqualified and unmitigated garbage, musical;ly speaking. Charlie Parker's one chorus is worth more than all that BS.
The HI-LOS are excellent foursome that came up with fantastic voices blending. Wow..these four guys are also individually, instrumentalist.Progressive jazz singing...BRAVO!
Does anyone have "I'll never smile again " which they sang with Frank Sinatra on one of his shows. If you haven't seen it then you are missing a very special ttreat I promise. Can anyone post it please ?
It's obvious that Take 6 listened and studied the Hi-Lo's. They are so smooth. I wish singing like this was still in vogue. I find it romantic, smooth everything that makes a girl's heart flutter.
I have this on VHS somewhere. LOVE those close harmonies! The Hi-Lo's were ahead of their time! I got the chance to see them live several years ago. Perfection!
Got the original vinyl. what harmony!

Gene Puerling's arrangements for this group were (and still are) so surprisingly hip.

Recontraformidables. Perfectamente acoplados, densidad armónica, no dejan vacíos. Afinados. Son nuestros papás.

@nrivers3 Check out some of the more recent Barbershop quartet champions. They sing a lot that would be right up your alley!
