  • I have just made this for the first time I got to say I love the taste I'm now hooked on almond milk

  • @37mrpaul :) I'm glad you like it.

  • Thank you for posting the video! I am going to soak the almonds tonight & try this out in the morning.

  • @gared111 Your welcome. :)

  • Shouldn't you strain it and can you use any type of nut?

  • yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy

  • You should get ride of the water you have been soaking them in as it's full of toxins. Which is dangerous. The reason to soak is to make nuts soft and also remove toxins in the almonds so you should chuck the water. :-)

  • @TheaDragonSpirit If you check the older comments you will see that I have done that since the making of the video. It does make it more digestable. Thank you for updating the subject though.

  • @NewEarthWellness - yeah I noticed after, but it was to late. However there is a lot of toxins in raw almond nuts so you have to be careful it might not feel like its damaging but eating a lot of foods don't so I rather not risk it my self. But thats me :-) I do need to get a nut bag though. When I made this it had to many bits in for my liking. ;-)

  • Thanks so much for your quick response. My husband and our 3 children are just now getting into eating raw and "live" food and not (dairy, wheat, and sugar). It's difficult to say the least. I attempted to make the cream, but it was just really milky, I think I failed. I tried to change the recipe to make a smaller amount. I will check out your newearthwellness tonight sometime. THanks again.

  • @jjsullenger For cream cut the liquids in half (both ice and water) or less depending on how thick you want the cream. Better to error on the side of too thick and have to add more water than to add too much liquid and not be able to remove it.

  • Great resource, thank you!! I plan to make heavy cream tonight, hope it turns out.

  • @jjsullenger I'm sure it will. One thing I love to do with the cream is subsititute pistacios for the almonds. It is so good over fresh fruit.

  • Thanks a lot for the recipe. I just need a mixer now. :)

  • you should have drained the water out and used new water because the reason there soaked is to release all of the enzyme inhibitors that can be toxic if consumed...great recipe though :)

  • @candypalau14 Since that video was made I do as you suggest. Toxic? Well, I used it the way you see it in the video for about 15 years and it would be pretty hard to prove that it was toxic. I have not noticed any change in my health since I began changing the water. I think maybe toxic is too strong a word for the subject.

  • @NewEarthWellness They can be toxic to those with weak digestive systems causing upset stomachs or cramps. its not toxic to everybody, soaking is just an extra step in the proccess to prevent those symptoms beacause you never know who can handle it or not...you can obviously take it if you've been drinking it for 15 years :) no harm done :)

  • @candypalau14 That is interesting. I know some people that have had problems and now I can explain the problem to them. Thank you. :)

  • @NewEarthWellness glad to help! :)

  • @NewEarthWellness I have actually experienced this, but I have severe allergies. I use the drain water in the garden or with houseplants and rinse thoroughly after draining.

  • @nerdmom920 Well now I know one more. :)

  • I love your videos, keep it up!

  • @wpc1013 Thank you. We wish we had high speed internet for doing more. We use my dad's high speed for uploading when I go to town. Yesterdays attempt failed.

  • Yes since the saliva would mix with it more than as milk. But whole nuts don't work to well on cereal. :)

  • That's interesting.

How does it compere to normal milk in terms of taste, nutrition and cooking?

  • @Ilamarea Better than cows milk in taste and nutrition. With cooking it depends on the recipe. For some it works but for others walnut milk works better. Almonds have a slight sweet taste already so if the recipe is sweet then almond milk works. For recipes like gravy where you don't want sweet walnut milk works better. Nutrition is far better---things like magnesium, phospherous and other stuff makes it possible for our bodies to make use of the calcium. The fats are not fattening too.

  • @NewEarthWellness

I see, thanks for fast replay.

But it is a strange concept too me. I allways thought of diary milk, as of the healthy part of my diet.

I'll have to try this out, as soon as I get a blender ;)

  • @Ilamarea Yep, a lot of people see dairy as a health food. The truth is, a lot of vitamin D that the food industry tells you that you need can be derived from other healthier sources. The only issue is D3, in which cases supplements should be taken. But anywho, the health benefits of giving up dairy WAY outweigh the costs!

  • @emilyj1987 The least expensive form of vitamin D is 15 minutes in the sun. My personal experience with being in the sun is that since I became a whole plant food vegan I don't get sunburnt. When I ate diary and eggs I burned in the sun but I don't anymore. I spent about half a day boating with my dad last fall and not the slightest burn. On the other hand I know a woman who always would wear sunscreen who had a serious D deficiency.

  • @NewEarthWellness is eating almonds better than drinking almond milk?

  • @Ilamarea The last time I tasted cows milk it tasted like how a barnyard smells. I never realized just how bad it was until I had been away from all dairy for over a year. To make almond milk taste more like cows milk I found that it needs about a tablespoon of parsley. Also, cows milk leaves a greasy coating on the tongue that doesn't happen with nut milks. Tastes change but it takes time.

  • A very helpful video. I like the idea of using ice. However, I believe it is healthier to drain the soaking water & rinse the almonds. Using new water is better for you. Any thoughts on this?

    Thanks

  • @gette775 Interesting that you should say that---I have been thinking the same thing just this week. Sort of like beans needing a change of water. :)

  • Suggestion -> get a tamper from amazon.com for like $15.00 you will be GLAD you did.

  • @marthale7 I have one. :) I just don't generally use it---unless I'm in a hurry.

  • What are the measurements for amount of nuts, water, dates, and ice. Looks very good. Can't wait to try

  • @ALPHAandOMEGA44 2/3 C raw almonds, 1/3 C date pieces, 1 1/2 C water and about 3-4 cups ice (2 big handfuls from my ice machine).

  • how did yours come out with a uniform white consistency? mine had little speckles of brown in it. thanks.

  • okay. so am i to understand that you add the ice to keep it from cooking? and also, it allots the milk to be a milk consistency.

  • @iroc31407 Yes on your first question but it is the amount of almonds that makes the consistency.

  • @iroc31407 i've seen some strain it through a bag. but if you use a vitamix, it's not necessary to do that, correct?

  • @iroc31407 That is right.

  • Comment removed

  • @iroc31407 Did you use a Vita Mix? If not that could be the problem. Vita Mix does the best job of any blender I have ever found. Actually my camera doesn't show the fine details. Mine does have very very fine specks of the skin too but that is normal and packed with nutrition.Good food doesn't have to look exactly like the bad stuff. If you were to remove the skin you would remove a large part of the valuable nutrients. It is something that is easy to adjust to.

  • @NewEarthWellness Yes I did use the Vitamix. Now that you say you do have fine brown specks, I know it's normal. Thank you.

  • @iroc31407 Glad to help.

  • @ NewEarthWellness, did you really use this to lose weight? How long did it take and what other things did you eat?

  • @ttdean yes I lost weight but I wasn't trying to lose weight. I had found out how regular milk was what was making me feel bad. I knew that cows milk had cholesterol and fat and I just wanted something that was better. I switched to this in the spring and by fall I lost so much weight that I had to buy new winter clothes because mine didn't fit anymore. It is a lifelong lifestyle change that I have made. I'm a whole plant vegan. I eat unrefined grains, fruits, nuts and veggies.

  • @NewEarthWellness Do you have any vegan recipes? I'm going to try the almond milk. It looks good. My children really like the one we got from the super market, I think they'd enjoy making it too. I'd really like to lose weight also.

  • @ttdean I have hundreds of vegan recipes. If you have any recipe that you would be interested in a vegan version of it just let me know. Let me know what you are interested in. I have been vegan for about 20 years. It is great that you are starting your kids on a better way of eating. I was not a healthy kid. I have more energy now than I ever did as a kid.

  • @NewEarthWellness Do you host vegan and wellness retreats? We'd attend if you do one.

  • @ttdean yes. We built this house for that purpose. You are welcome to come. We are located in the hills east of Fresno California.

  • It doesn't have to be raw but I eat about half raw and half cooked. I don't use anything fermented, refined or chemically altered. No boxed milks, no refined oils or other fats (these are cancer causing), no refined sweeteners (I use dates or date sugar which is dried dates). I eat freely of salt cured olives (no Ferrous Gluconate or vinegar), avocadoes and raw nuts. No roasted nuts. No added gluten, no vegan meat substitutes. Plenty of whole grains---well cooked. Variety.

  • i think i'll try this .Thanks posting the video . I do something similar, but i peel the almonds after soaking and strain out the almond pulp to make a milk . I use the dates for the final blend . Yeah , you must have a vitamix .

  • @marco9bear That sounds like a lot of work. I have had a Vita Mix for about 20 years now. This recipe includes the fiber and all the nutrition that is in the skin of the almond.

  • i have that toaster!!!!! :)

  • @bigscarybear LOL---It is a nice one, isn't it.

  • Why the ice? Can I just use water and refrigerated it when I'm done?

  • @dynamite2T Good question. The Vita Mix is very powerful and will create heat before the nuts are liquid. Without the ice you will either have chunky warm milk or thickened hot milk. If you don't mind warm or hot thick milk you could but for something like the milk you would want on cereal this recipe works best. I'm not sure how the heat would affect the nutrition of the nuts. It could seperate the fat which would not be healthy.

  • Can we freeze this and take it as needed?

  • @yliveable I have never tried it but I have frozen leftover milkshake and used it later. It might work. Maybe freeze it in small single serving sizes. I'm not sure about the nutrition---might lose some of it but it still beats cows milk and all the evils that go with it.

  • I have just recently tried almond milk to get away from cow milk. I was so impressed- light on my stomach, smooth and delicious. Your recipe looks and and sounds great and I can't wait to try it!! Thank you for uploading!!

  • Personal preference is part of it depending on the recipe. I like the milk a little icy but my husband likes it without the ice crystals.

For things like soup, creams or cheeses it depends on how smooth you want it and how hot/cold you want it.

I have a hot carob drink that I make that if it is overblended it becomes a pudding so I pre-chop the nuts before I add the other stuff.

  • how can you tell if you're not overmixing/blending/juicing? alot of these videos I've seen looks like people overmix/ blend, etc. is that even possible?

  • Each recipe is different and it all depends on what you want. With this recipe you want it to be liquid with no ice but if you leave it too long it would be warm and foamy when you pour it. Practice and watch what it looks like. In this video if you watch what the liquid is doing as it blends you can tell when it is ready. If you put your hands on the outside that will give you an idea of the temp. inside. With my pudding recipe the ingredients are already hot so texture is what you look for.

  • oh ok thank you...is there a recipe for walnut milk? or pecans

  • I would just substitute raw walnuts or pecans for the almonds. I use walnut or pecan milk in some of my recipes---like with the Country Gravy recipe, that is just walnuts and water that I use in that.

Pecans work better in sweet recipes like cookies and walnut milk seems to work better for burgers, loafs, gravy and other non-sweet dishes.

  • Vitamix is totally amazing!!! We just got one today and I've already made a couple things. Check out the video I did if you like. My boyfriend is a diabetic and I'm hoping this will help him as well.

  • Could you tell me where did you purhase your Vitamis from. I thought I saw it advertised on QVC. I trying to find the best buy. As you known this is a costly machine. Thank you.

  • I've often wondered what went into making almond milk from scratch, so thank you for posting this! It's way easier than I expected. I'm definitely going to try this.
