@reygood1 The version of Mudbox you see here was one that was instrumented for Autodesk Labs. When multi-touch devices get more popular, we can make a multi-touch Mudbox generally available. We can do this when the time comes that you don't need to buy this big expensive monitor.
I think it would be better if one finger was used for rotating the camera and 2 fingers to pan around, rather than using two HANDS to rotate the camera!!!
I think experienced artists (Not me!) are already so used to tablets and/or mouse, that this wouldn't be more efficient to most people. I am not saying it's totally useless, because you can never have too many alternatives when it comes to user friendliness.
But... due to the lack of pressure sensitivity you find with tablets, do you have to manually adjust the strength/size of the brush? Mouse users have at least shortcuts on keyboard which makes things easier.
menu bar is so inappropriate for medium like this. physically constricting (moving your arms far repeatedly surely a tiring proposition) as well as inadequate (2d list with only small icons as decoration)
i sincerely doubt it. it seems really awesome and everything but you'll unintentionally hit so much shit you don't want to with the palm of your hand. i work on a cintiq and i cant imagine having anything but the pen tip controlling things as far as the cursor. plus, hands are dirty. :P
The area of multi-touch is of interest to many companies. We expect to see the technology available in many form factors other than the iPhone, Microsoft Surface, and the Perceptive Pixel Wall.
Nice demo ! I hope to see this feature in Mudbox 2, but how about the cost of the Display ? Will we have to wait 3-5 years to see affordable Mult-Touch Display ?
I'm not rich so I don't have a Cintiq, I only have the Bamboo pen & touch and these multitouch functions would be awesome!

@Pruxii Multitouch is available in many inexpensive home-grown forms as demonstrated on the procastineering blog.

@letmego11 Noted. We do use one finger for orbit, two for pan/zoom, three for rotating about an axis, six for pull apart, and ten for reset.

So where is MUDBOX for the IPAD?
I'd apply for a Job at Autodesk immediately.

Interesting technology though.

Actually many multi-touch devices are pressure sensitive.
scottsh115 2 years ago
Oh, ok, my mistake!
XeaxDScom 2 years ago
@XeaxDScom I'm gonna begin with 3d modelling on a multitouch display - so I would be used to it :)

i use sculpting programs on a daily basis...and this would be completely useless. it doesn't help, and it doesn't makes sense to use it like that

Thank you for the feedback. We would never know this unless we make prototypes and get knowledgable feedback from people like you.

now i feel like a dick......

Worry not - honest feedback, positive or negative, is always desired.

do you still need cluncky menu system with multitouch?
agungk 2 years ago
Yes you still need some type of menu system. The best part is that the menu can be content sensitive based on what you touch.
scottsh115 2 years ago
that's exactly my point...
menu bar is so inappropriate for medium like this. physically constricting (moving your arms far repeatedly surely a tiring proposition) as well as inadequate (2d list with only small icons as decoration)

You will see multi-touch in many form factors as it is supported by Windows 7.
scottsh115 3 years ago
Yes this does follow in the path of eduism.

reminds me of edusim - via this video

The multi-touch interface would supplement the existing interface. A multi-touch device also has the ability to emulate a mouse.
scottsh115 3 years ago
Doh! That could be sweet, but will definitely require some getting used to.
Still, i wonder if that's gonna be that much easier/faster than conventional nav and sculpt...

I believe the screen they used here was made by Jeff Han's Perceptive Pixel. Contact him for prices and what's available.
