All the stances, and practices you do in the dojo; don't hold up in an actual fight. It's using the motions you trained; and keeping a cool head. THAT is where the martial art is. Knowing how to punch alone, is a type of martial art. Maybe you watch too many Wing-chun videos.

@DRCsyntax Yes I have been in plenty of fights. I understand the difference between a dry land swimmer and a real fighter. Each to their own I guess but I'm not easily impressed by MMA. What are you talking about when you say a stance doesn't work in a real fight? if I stand on one leg on tippy toes am I going to present much of a problem to my challenger? No! a good solid mobile structure would be better. oo wait a minute that's a stance.
