  • well done, so talk so great!!! I have seen since yesterday continulusly!!!

  • Heh. That's Michael Bell's voice for the intro narration, yes?

  • Where can i get this program

  • I always take the scientific path... ;)

It allows you to build science eve faster, and if you advance in science first, the military expands faster than if you advance in military first... I think...

  • fuck Sid Meirers games are so shit AOE or RON is the way to go on any level

  • and this music is about to make me manic

  • Kinda of ironic that in a talk about keeping people engaged I found myself clicking away from this one. Bad audio mix coupled with too much focus on the cut scenes and not enough talk from Sid Meier.

  • I learned 500 times more when I play video games than I learn from school. Video games teach you strategy school teaches you senseless crap you have to memorize.

  • Yes, but you can't cure aging with your strategies. It takes engineering on sub cell level. And if senseless science will fail, your games will be over before your 100 th birthday. BTW, can you count the time you allowed to be young in seconds? Awfully small, ain't it?

  • @74u73hjd: Well, that's definitely true to a level.........that's one of the reasons I loved Civs II & IV. I gotta start playing them again soon.

  • Having Sid approach his games like he did was simply marvelous.

  • Beautiful. I love civilization games! Thank you Sid.

  • It could be a wonderful resource for educators.

  • I definately have this experience myself ; i can't for economic reasons afford to take further education at the moment, but videogames of many different kinds help fill the gap of learning with sensible understandings of such things as social and political and economic systematics, not to mention strategy, tactics, semantics and storytelling in general :)

  • Video games really only help to inspire the desire to learn more about the topics glossed over by them. They do not really provide you with an education, there are plenty of sources on the internet that are better than that.

  • Of course games are no measure of real education, but they keep the will to learn alive i'd say, at least comparably to watching TV for instance with games you are constantly challenged whilst with a TV you just sit there pretty much :]

  • Well, most kids learn to use the computer and even the internet through games - I think learning that through a text book would be awful and not as productive. Non-English speakers can and do learn English from games. There are more examples, like learning strategy and problem solving, and much more. Games are actually the natural way of learning. Of course, we don't have games that can substitute all forms of educations, but no one is making that claim.

  • It is not the kind of education you can get from a book or lesson. If Gron cant afford an education for economic reasons, he is better off studying on the internet, wikipedia is a good, easy introduction to almost any topic.

Games can provide the intuitive understanding and passion for the subject, and they enhance certain skills which are valuable outside of games themselves. But i wouldnt say they will give you a terribly deep education.
