jay's pre-fabricated schtick is so dull and painful to listen to. you can tell Dave doesn't really like him. he doesn't sit down and have a conversation, he sits down and goes right into his lame act.
@macdaddylorenzo I disagree. A more talented comedian, (and most are more talented than Jay Leno) tries to work in his jokes in a more natural way. he lets the conversation flow and fits in pre-written material with some fresh stuff that comes to him naturally in the conversation. If you are a funny person, you have a funny conversation with the host. You don't sit down and go into an overt, forced comedy routine right there in the chair. Chris Rock is a good example of this good type o comedian
@mozfan2436 totally agree with you in general & I wish more comedians would do this. Totally disagree with you regarding Chris Rock though. He's BY FAR my favorite comedian, yet when he's on talk shows I find he's just doing his own thing, sometimes rudely cutting off the host & just belting out his own skit
Of course I'm biased 'cause I love Rock so much my expectations from him are surely too high. Also, it's surely very stressful for anyone to do live ad hoc material in front of millions
Why anybody here is nocking this is a true mystery, this is Jay in his prime, this is gold folks, the stuff about the airline and the circus is priceless, why do you think Letterman laughs so hard at it? This one clip beats anything conan obrien ever did in his entire life.
Hey I'm 24 and I love Jay Leno so fuck all you close-minded retards who think "only old people like Leno". Look at his audiences in his show, he attracts people of all ages. Gimme thumbs down Conan fanbitches.
"...have ya seen this?! have ya heard this?!" Lame 80's comedy schtick. Letterman is clearly "setting 'em up" so Leno can knock em down. Seems so rehearsed all these years later... and to the degree Leno gets the punches is attribute to Leno's management team.... Letterman is/was clearly the stronger comic. This makes me angry.
@thethryll every talkshow does this. It's not natural conversation. If it was natural conversation the show would be bland and ratings would tank. It's made to be funny.
Despite what might be considered some poor decisions on his part recently, Jay still strikes me as a pretty decent guy. I'm sure he's not exactly thrilled about the way things were handled with 'The Tonight Show'. But Conan is so talented and likable that he's sure to land on his feet regardless. I remember when Conan first came onto the late night talk show scene and seeing him in commercials promoting his new show. I thought "This poor guy isn't gonna last 2 weeks!" He sure proved me wrong!
I have very fond memories of Jay during this period of his career, when he made frequent appearances on Late Night. Along with Chris Elliott, he was one of the guests that I looked forward to seeing the most. He did lose a lot of that edge when he took on 'The Tonight Show' and had to tame his act down, but he had me in stitches during these early appearances.
It is so funny to see children such as maskddingo so butthurt over the NBC sitution that they have no problems embarrassing themselves by acting like htey are siome comedy experts. Guess who thought that taking about airlines was hilarious in the 80s? David Letterman. Did you hear him laughing?
Get over it. NBC clearly made he right decision in 1992 (the 14 year ratings DOMINATION proved that) and time will pretty obviously show that they made the right decision now.
WhatDeFrock : I compltetly agree. The guy used to be really funny. What the heck happened to him? Now he's just a bore. He should have just walked off into the sunset with his stellar reputation, instead he comes back and ruins everything he's ever done by acting like a pompous a-hole.
Leno screwed Johnny, Dave ,Rosie, and now Conan. It would be very easy for Leno , to say no to the Tonight Show, but he will always be a lying back stabber
Can you tell these guys are going to be friends forever!

@mozfan2436 That's not true. They were close friends. Letterman had him on his show about 40 times.
brewer921 8 months ago
@mozfan2436 almost all comedians on talk shows do exactly that, and the host rarely gets a word in, other than to set up the next joke

Leno LOVES to talk about airlines.... Like every time he's on Letterman he's talking about airlines. So lame and cliche.
Any one of us could joke on the airlines. It's obvious, and it's very pedestrian material.
