Interesting anecdote about the original recording: the record has several tracks that have X's scratched into them. When you sacrifice your turntable needle to play them, you realize that these tracks are versions where Rickenbacker screws up! They didn't yet have the technology to offer only the finished product. So while he may have been America's Ace of Aces, he wasn't America's Announcer of Announcers.
Point taken. But I didn't defend Rickenbacker as a pitchman or announcer. I commented only on his voice, which I maintain was very good, at least as heard here:) --
