It seems to me you are needlessly closing yourself off for disappointments sake which isn't all that painful just predictable. When you say unearth your desire, I think you are mistaking your old desire for you new evolved state of being. You have finally dropped the old foolish dependencies of needing another person. Now you can continue full speed ahead with your social growth with out the need for "companionship" to give you self worth, as you have likely began finding it with in yourself.
