Wrong, the status quo is the government very ineffectively regulating this industry thus letting them run amuck to the decedent point it's at now. This industry have been allowed to gouge consumers by taking years of premiums and dropping policies and not insuring people who really needed it. Basically putting profits first and the health of customers last. The health of our citizens shouldn't be a for profit industry. Corporate greed have proved it will no longer work without competition.

My original point was that if we could find a way to buck the status quo by addressing these very issues with legislation. Legislation that would in fact have anti-trust, anti barriers to entry, anti exorbitant malpractice suits, and anti pre-existing conditions addendums to the existing Bill that would afford the American people some kind of advantage in this against the wrath of these insurance companies.

I'm a moderate conservative and I'm going to have to disagree with you. There is NO reason we can't expect that the government can help fix some of the problems we have with health care. The above post says nothing of doctors who provide WAY more health care than is necessary. For example, how many times will a surgeon, if asked, would say "NO, you don't need surgery". They can't expect to make money and pay back their student loans if they did that.

Since when can the government force you to buy health insurance for yourself? We do have to buy car insurance but that is for liability and to cover the other driver. Americans believe in liberty and do not want their rights taken away from them like socialized health care will do. One reason health care is so expensive is because of the mandates. There are states that tell you that you need certain items in your health care which raises the cost. One way to lower costs would be to allow people to cross state lines to get health care at a cheaper rate. Another alternative would be to give out vouchers. Anything is better than socialized health care. Once it's implemented then we are commited and there is no turning back.

Let's think about this. People are losing their jobs, running out of COBRA, losing health insurance, unable to pay for care, medicine, etc in addition to losing their homes. These people without insurance have been using emergency rooms for their care when their health problems are much worse, costing the system, and themselves, forcing hospitals to close their emergency rooms. Hospitals are losing money. This situation is going to get only WORSE. If we don't do anything, you won't have care.
Please include nurse practitioners in this group of people speaking up for health care- nurses are instrumental in the process to increase access to health care- and actually research shows that people rate their health care experience much higher with nurse practitioners.
I think events like this only highlighting M.D.'s once again relegates N.P.'s and nurses to being second to doctors, while that is not the case.

Because we all know if people could only get less money if a doctor leaves a scalpel in them and some states just have super better awesome insurance than everybody else. This will lower all of our cost and insure everybody, this would only work in Conservaland where the modern Republican party resides.
Actually those would work because tort reform would prevent the wasteful practicing of defensive medicine, and it doesn't mean that if a doctor makes a large mistake you're not getting money, it's just if they make a small mistake, you;re not hitting the lottery. Insurance across state lines would work because there would be competition between the hundreds of insurance companies and you can pick a plan specific to you.

Wrong, the status quo is the government very ineffectively regulating this industry thus letting them run amuck to the decedent point it's at now. This industry have been allowed to gouge consumers by taking years of premiums and dropping policies and not insuring people who really needed it. Basically putting profits first and the health of customers last. The health of our citizens shouldn't be a for profit industry. the government is ineffective at regulating this industry for the same reason it is ineffective at regulating anything, because it is a monopoly. insurance is NOT for things like doctors visits and routine procedures, it is for catastrophes and things that probably will not happen. so the question is why are prices high enough that people cant afford it without insurance. in a free market, profit is a mechanism to tell the capitalist how well he is serving humanity. we need this in health care.

My original point was that if we could find a way to buck the status quo by addressing these very issues with legislation. Legislation that would in fact have anti-trust, anti barriers to entry, anti exorbitant malpractice suits, and anti pre-existing conditions addendums to the existing Bill that would afford the American people some kind of advantage in this against the wrath of these insurance companies.

I'm a moderate conservative and I'm going to have to disagree with you. There is NO reason we can't expect that the government can help fix some of the problems we have with health care. The above post says nothing of doctors who provide WAY more health care than is necessary. For example, how many times will a surgeon, if asked, would say "NO, you don't need surgery". They can't expect to make money and pay back their student loans if they did that.

Since when can the government force you to buy health insurance for yourself? We do have to buy car insurance but that is for liability and to cover the other driver. It's an option to buy car insurance to cover your own car. Forcing citizens to buy health insurance is against the constitution. * Amend the laws, which protect the incompetent doctors from getting sued.
* Make the health care providers list their charges, so patients can compare with other health care providers. (Deductibles, labor, beds, etc)
* Empower a NON-PROFIT organization to provide Public Option Insurance, instead of corrupt Washington run insurance. President you might not be corrupt, but your friends are!

One reason health care is so expensive is because of the mandates. There are states that tell you that you need certain items in your health care which raises the cost. One way to lower costs would be to allow people to cross state lines to get health care at a cheaper rate. Another alternative would be to give out vouchers. Anything is better than socialized health care. Once it's implemented then we are commited and there is no turning back.

government has no business spending another dime of OUR MONEY until they locate the 23 TRILLION that is "missing" from the "federal" reserve
the federal government is a junkie, and needs to be cut off from it's fix.

So you're saying that people should make $5 million if a doctor makes a small mistake that costs another $1,000 surgery to fix, rather than maybe $5,000 for the cost of the surgery plus pain, suffering, and loss of work? And tort reform isn't the only thing that needs to happen, in my opinion the other two I mentioned are more important.

Tort reform is a MAJOR concern. But it is a concern that falls under civil law. Not medical reform.

Okay so it's essentially malpractice. I'll give you enough grace in that you said "a leading cause" and not 'the leading cause," since it isn't. Now, would you care to find me information regarding Canada's rate compared to the United States, as well as concrete information about Canadian wait times (multiple sources please)?

What you've pointed out is probably the first valid concern regarding healthcare reform. In that it isn't something being addressed. I haven't heard any Republican state anything close to as informative as you have, which is a shame. So, in a way, thanks for bringing it to my attention. It's one more thing to share with my own peers.

Last week a new study showed that 92% of Canadians would recommend their doctor to friends and family. Two-thirds have had their doctor for over five years and 85% of Canadians have a regular doctor.

Or worse. Not get simple treatment while it is cost effective and end up in the emergency room costing us billions in taxes as well as billions in productivity?
Health Care costs have doubled in the last decade and unless we reform things will double again in the next.
And every day THOUSANDS more join the rolls of the uninsured.

Let me guess, Tort reform and purchasing insurance across state lines will be all the reform America needs. And let me guess why you feel this way, because the Republican party told you so. Because we all know if people could only get less money if a doctor leaves a scalpel in them and some states just have super better awesome insurance than everybody else. This will lower all of our cost and insure everybody, this would only work in Conservaland where the modern Republican party resides.

Actually those would work because tort reform would prevent the wasteful practicing of defensive medicine, and it doesn't mean that if a doctor makes a large mistake you're not getting money, it's just if they make a small mistake, you;re not hitting the lottery. Insurance across state lines would work because there would be competition between the hundreds of insurance companies and you can pick a plan specific to you.
