Interesting, in contrast to previous comments this track reminds me of being a kid sitting in the back seat of my dads VW Beetle driving through West London
I can remember hanging out with the fellas at Palmer Park, checking out the honeys on the strip behind the park by the pool....Those were the good old days in the D!!!!!!!
@mfmbam Amen. I grew up with the excellent Chris Wood version, only just discovering the original versions now. Looks like he leaned more towards the "(Return To The Valley Of) Out Come The Freaks" version, but borrows a verse from this one. I can't find the third Was (Not Was) version: "Out Come The Freaks (Again)". Anyone know where I can find it?
The Warehouse, Leeds, UK, Saturday night, very early 80's....DJ Ian Dewhirst on the two's and eights playing FRESH Paradise Garage grooves like this one....brought the muthafucking roof down!
Had an early copy of this album. An associate of my father's did the album cover. It seems this has a late disco tone to it but I always thought Don Was was unique and groups like Blondie copied from him.
@JEDI7ACEN I'm from willow rune its Saturday morning in here in LA and my boy from Inkster just hit me and said he woke up with this song in his head, I remember battling the funkateers and Magic when this song came on BIG UP DETORIT WHATTT!!!
@JEDI7ACEN I'm from Willow Run and my boy from Inkster just hit me at 7am saying he had this song in his head, woke my ass up Im way out here living in LA but damn this remind me of back home, the scene Belle Isle, MOJO. BIG UP DETROIT, DETROIT WHAT !!!??
@Nevermind7771 Hell yeah, I was just checkin out some old prince songs and happened to remember Mojo for the first time in thirty years. Nigga used to rock out on Hendrix EVERY NIGHT.
This is the version that hit DETROIT! the other version I only heard just recently when I found it on record..... I was disapointed....I wanted this one!
Is this the original version? The version I'm familiar with is a lot slower than this....more laid back but still by W not W I'm sure. Has anyone found it on YouTube?...or does it have a different title?
Yes!!!! That's the one! Thanks to you I've now found a sample of it and now I know what to look for on their CDs. Could be it was a UK release only...an acoustic version...love it!
I "know" they were all from Detroit, as myself, but thanks for THAT tidbit. The rest of the world has no idea what music is, namely Chicago. Ken was a genius.
@smityj you're right CLASSIC detroit. I was a kid (11) when this came out! My summer vacations in detriot were always slammin! Palmer Park always had cute Girls
another version of this song is available on "orange county funk" page the title of the video is "orange county funk 08" with a green low rider on the front picture of the video

"She don't even care if he ain't got no hair..."
"Cos he says it hurts his neck!"
But my fave line comes in another version: "Oh Lord I ask you - what kind of beast is man!"
