I never got this, my computer just didn't have video after a restart one day. I have a late 2008 model with nvidia graphics. It was documented by nvidia and apple that there was an abnormal fail rate so i got mine replaced free too. was a 1200$ repair fee :-/
Hey hippydogzero. It turned out to be a bad ATI graphics card. My computer was out of apple care but ATI knows there is a problem with this card and so will replace them for free. Take it to your apple store and they can tell you if that is the problem.
As you said, it is the faulty graphics card which requires a logic board replacement. Due to the extended warranty of 3 years as it is a known fault, they will replace it for free providing they can get an error code, Otherwise it would have cost over £700.

A reinstall can temporarily fix it.
