  • His Mom must be so proud!

  • Wow, stage security are assholes.

  • at 3:50, does he push away the guys who try to help him away from the audience, or am I wrong?

  • Tracey Pew..... Boss Bassie shit kicker...

  • Fuck this is good quality for the early 80's .... look at those Junkies go

  • nick cave's best when he's completely psychotic. I'll take The Birthday Party over the Bad Seeds any day of the week. Bad Seeds are too polished for my liking.

  • what's sad? I had no clue nick cave was the lead singer of this band.. I'd heard of them a bunch of times but never looked into them.. must say I'm surprised to see him.. I always assumed his first band was the bad seeds..

  • This is great art

  • 3:53 "Love...... LLUUUAAAHHHGG!!!!"

  • this man wrote "into my arms" :))) hehehe NICK CAVE IS GREAT !!!!!!!!

  • j' adore dommage que nick ne soit pas rester dans ces annees punk en plus trop beau a l' epoque

  • the mic, the mic!!! hahaha, poor soundmen

  • "can you tell us a bit about the birthday party?" "hummm, no!" christ! no wonder they never made it! if the members themselves won't promote the band, how is it supposed to work exactly?

  • @quaxk

It's called 'making music'. You know, that thing real bands actually do, i suppose most bands today concentrate on being marketing tools than musicians though.

  • @quaxk Tongue in cheek answer. Secondly "they never made it "?????? For fucks sake!!!!!

  • I wonder if anyone knew Nick Cave has a priceless sense of humor? Met him twice in '82 in Rotterdam, Holland. We shared the same habit. The 1st time he invited me for a fix in his dressingroom in: Hal 4, a small concerthal & former Watertower Building, which is still there after 28 years. Even hooked on heroïne he was damn funny & intelligent. He said while preparing his fix before the show started:'as you can see am mixing it with water as it is very expensive stuff'.

  • I saw them in Los Angeles in March 1983.

  • Man, the sound guy must have wanted to murder Nick.

  • true genius band

  • Saddens me to see they can't pull off the stops at the right points. Studio recording is ten-fold better done. For shame.

  • the pixies totally copped this off..lol

  • how does he make his hair do that??

  • one, if not THE best post-punk group that ever was.

  • Amazingly new way of songwriing...very impressing...but it sounds so damn sad & abandoned...it's the soundtrack of DEATH, just like sound of the track 'Street Hassle' on the album Street Hassle from Lou Reed released around 1977(?)

  • I'd give my soul to be close to the stage at this concert...!!! But I wasn't even born back then...:( Oh shit:/ lolzz

  • The only bands that are on par with this band are Scratch Acid. Big Black and Jesus Lizard. They are all totally fucked up in a good way.

  • @RadioFriendlyNoise I'll agree with you on the Jesus Lizard (and maybe scratch acid, but shameful as it is, I like their newer stuff better).

  • @RadioFriendlyNoise I agree for those bands but stuff like Swans, Killing joke, ealry Nirvana are as well.

  • I love the birthday party, nick the stripper is better! I

  • this is the song i want to fuck to. gets me horny as hell.

  • @Nomanisrdy :D I've fucked to this song :P

    Totally spontaneous too ^__^

moment it came on, we looked at eachother,

    and Fuck XD

There's no stopping what this music does to you :P

  • @PickUpYourLighters haha, hell yes. THAT is awesome. :)

  • @Nomanisrdy It was hilarious ^__^

half way through, we'd both kinda look up and just be like...

"yup... we're fucking to The Birthday Party" and grin :P

  • @PickUpYourLighters hahaha, that's a great story. i don't even know what to say... that's just awesome, ha. XD

  • @PickUpYourLighters

i also fucked someone (i'd just met) at a birthday party gig.

people all around were staring at us but we didnt give a shit

the music was manic and loud and we were wasted.

    so it happened quite naturally

  • @pw342 Oh wow! You actually did it AT their gig? Fucking win!

Hahahaha mine was just at my place, with their music playing.

    I'm envious as fuck! :P

But I certainly can't blame you!

    BP makes me wet ^__^

  • @PickUpYourLighters

yep. definitely one of my weirdest memories.

dont think i ever knew her name actually. but we did meet again at another gig a week later.

i wasnt even sure i'd seen the birthday party til one of my friends confirmed it a while ago.

those were the days eh. mental music, alchohol and drug fueled sex with random strangers in public places. lolz. :)

  • @pw342 Hahaha ur my new personal hero, mate.

Wish these guys were still around :/

I never got to see them live *cries*

I was born in the wrong era

all the music I love was in the late 80's :/

    Hate being young lol

So I can't remenisce with you about ye good olde days,

But I'm envious of you for having embraced and been part of them, none the less.

  • @PickUpYourLighters

ah the good ole days the good ole days.

yep, we had a lot of fun.

i'm betting theres always some crazy scene happening somewhere in the world though.

you just got to go out and find it.

  • @pw342 That, or make your own :P

  • @pw342 Thats the best story around here, i am jealous :D Maybe the only way to upgrade that is fucking Nick Cave during a Birthday Party gig on stage *giggles*

  • Mindblowing.

    Oh, Rowland...

  • rip Rowland S Howard

  • for some reason Nick Cave kinda reminds me of James Chance

  • @21Kyzix12 except nick doesn't play the saxophone

  • ya thats y nick cave should do an album with james chance. that would be amazing

  • they both have weird eye forehead regions

  • 5 stars not enough for this -- I give it 10! Gonna have to find this DVD.

  • i was at the gig in New Zealand when the whole Phil Clavert came to a head and they did their show with a substitute drummer on loan from The Marching Girls. The set was short but memorable.

  • Sexy man

  • I would do anything for that man! I don't care if he's like 90 now, That man IS sex itself!

  • Fingers down the throat of l-a-a-a-a-v-v-v-h-h! Yes!

  • How do you know the birthday party were first? Do you have a past life as another human?

  • Surprise Surprise! A little known band from Greece was doing exactly what the Birthday Party were doing at the same time. Unfortunately I no longer see the friend who gave me a copy of the tape. And I lost the only copy I had.

    Yellow Yell- Hello Hell.

  • but! the birthday party were first.

  • What was the bands name? sounds pretty cool, did they sing in greek?

  • Yell-o-Yell. They used to sing in English though. Check out XIII and Hell o Hell. But i think they re not available anymore...

  • sublime.........cave was the one .junkyard their best..

  • one of their best numbers. this and King Ink maybe Jenifer's IMHO...

    still love it :D

Haven't seen this for years, thx for posting.

  • oh damn damn damn it. i would die to see that. to stay there in the first row and...just go in that space between insane and complete madness...there where you meet not good but outstanding music

  • FUCK....is he sexy or is he sexy? I never thought that i would think something like that first while watching a nick cave/birthday party video (and i am only here to watch videos of them). But...damned...his movements....i would also have snatched his shirt that evening...hrrrrrrrrr. I am paralysed...fingers down the throat of love nick :D

Well, great performance of course :D

  • @Angrautimas You know nick sucked my cock in return for me letting him fuck this hot youngy i was pumping at the time in Adelaide in the early 80s when i was using hammer

  • THE DEVIL IN THE BOTTLE!thanx

  • You can hear that new wave raw Captain Beefheart influence. It's great!

  • hahahaha, thats so funny.

    weird cymbals though

  • I helped pull Jesus into the crowd that night, and yea,it was a great gig!

  • tHOSE ARE SOME KICK ASS SHOES NICK, FUCKING LOVE YA!

  • Nick is my brother;-)

  • Don'tcha wish?

  • brother in soul)

  • so glad to see this...love tracys bass sound.....from philly here where, apparently, vurtually no one got this music when it was a'happening -- too authentic for the goths and too artistic for the punks......they always agreed with me quite well, especially the junkyrad lp.

  • "vurtually no one got this music when it was a'happening -- too authentic for the goths and too artistic for the punks......"

The late John Peel got it.

  • @EuchridEucrow1

thats because it was a fucking racket basically.

still had lots of fun in amongst it all though

  • @EuchridEucrow1 bullshit mate,we were watching this band live since the 70s,aussies knew of our great rock n rollers, especially the party,saints,ac/dc,radio birdman and others, goths weren't even "invented" then,we punks fully got it and yes the peel sessions were great

  • @EuchridEucrow1 True for the most part. But some of us got it :-)

  • @EuchridEucrow1 thats because john peel is god and nick cave is jesus.

  • this is amazing.cave is a god

  • cant believe this is the same guy that composed the assassination of jesse james soundtrack

  • One day...one day the Birthday Party will regroup (save for Tracey Pew RIP)...

  • What a cannibalistic crowd. Love this song.

  • I always loved the simplicity of this band, and how they could make magic out of just plucking instruments, banging things and screaming. No wonder they got together with Blixa Bargeld later, lol.

  • The Jesus shirt makes it. =] God, I love Nick. I think it's hilarious that he didn't consider the Birthday Party actual music. That is was just something to do and that only crazy people would enjoy. Then I supoose I'm crazy, I don't care. =P He's amazing.

  • This is awesome.!

  • THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU

    you made my day

    what great quality

  • anyone know what this song means? i love it but i have no idea.

  • nick cave is a dreamboat.

  • Incredible..pure art

  • Saw 'em in Brighton when I was about 14...their Junkyard LP plus Hex Enduction Hour (The Fall) just about kept me musically sane in the early 80's...

  • pretty earring he has:) 9hours, 22 minutes left

  • that was way too awesome

  • Most excellent!
