Yes, other countries have the "ugly" stereotypes. But, other countries always point their fingers to the USA when it comes to the stereotype because many Americans (not all, an English teacher of mine is an American and some of my Facebook friends are Americans) think they're the best in the world and those "ugly Americans" always turn themselves to the centre of attention.
That's why the "ugly people" stereotype is constantly associated with Americans.

@DaytonaRoadster exactly! thanks to god that white americans don't hate jews and blacks! :D look up bigoted pricks in the dictionary and you'll find the tea party.

Also, not all Americans are snobs like (some) wealthy Americans who can afford to go around the world representing ALL Americans! I'm so tired of the states not in the heartland speaking for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fact is that Europe hates us until they need us to kick someone else's asses for them (Hello, France!). Also, the British Empire has a MUCH poorer Human Rights history than us and Germany, well, 1939, anyone?? It is ALL jealousy. They hate us?? Fuck 'em. They know we could whip their collective asses in about two days if we are provoked. Sure, they "hate" us, but offer any of them a plane ticket to the states and they would pounce on it (though they would stupidly only go to New York or L.A.
If you haven't notices Germany helped us in Iraq and Afghanistan, and Germany's government is closer to the Unired States' than you think, Mr. Nationalist.

I bet if I went to any country I could find people I got along with, and people I would hate. A country doesn t have a singular personality, c'mon people don't be stupid....
Western Europeans have always looked down on American's as lesser Europeans mixed with barbarian natives on the edges of the civilized world and culturally and intellectually inferior.
... where were you in Europe? Because, you know, Europe is very diverse. I am not a fan of America, and can get pretty judgemental, but it sounds completely unreal to me that someone would be that rude to your face, at least here in Sweden.
Lots of things to see in the USA. Don't travel or spend money in Europe, when we need the money here. Just because we have a lot of foreingers living here doesn't mean we have to talk to them or shop in their stores.
I could just as easily point you to websites where Europeans are behaving no differently in their posts about Americans. Idiocy knows no nationality. What you're reading here comes from the people who use the anonymity of the internet to spout vitriolic crap about things they know little about. Trust me, they come in all nationalities, and they make me sick.
These people without knowing demonstrated why people dislike Americans. They assume that there country is better than everywhere else and that just doesn't bode well with other people. There is a difference between national pride and thinking that you are superior.
@KirbyComicsVids bush didn't care about bin laden (his words) and right now the us is having peace talks with the taliban (who weren't involved in 911). sooooo, what was your point? stop watching fox! i mean it! stop watching it and think for yourself and i promise you that the world will be truly open to you!
@Daisy4Loka the us government is so stupid that it believes that its' bad decisions do not affect the reputation of the us citizens. the same citizens that voted for bush twice... i still can't believe it.
@Daisy4Loka Ha ha thats a good one. But one tends to think that when they are in controle. If they don't represent you then why don't you over throw them?
We Europeans do it loads of times when we get upset :)
@Daisy4Loka And you're such an ultra-doofus because you're claiming that ALL Europeans are stupid and that they ALL think the US government represents the people of USA.
@Daisy4Loka if the us government doesent represent the us people then who does? ronald fuckin mcdonald? get your head out of the sand your government speaks for you!!
i dont see you on a podium making speeches about the countries decisions.
I've met many from around the globe and what I've learned is that the American stereotype is bullshit. I've met people from all over the world who act no different than "ugly americans" the only difference is they're not from a world super power. I'm not saying there aren't ugly americans, what I'm saying is that its not something that is exclusive to the US.
@crazyhorse1369 "We don't give a damn what others think . We will invade you anytime and you can't do shit about it ."
"Fuck what the world thinks of us . Wanna know what i think of europe ??? I think they are pussies that can't survive without the US military protecting them ."
Yeah, that would make you a just a little bit childish, idiotic, immoral and an ignorant asshole. No wonder USA is the most hated country in the world...
Fuck what the world thinks of us . Wanna know what i think of europe ??? I think they are pussies that can't survive without the US military protecting them .
It's people like that fatty that causes this whole stereotype. If you're in another country, deal with their customs. When in Rome do as the Romans do! I went to England and stayed in a nice hotel. The room didn't have ice so I went down to the bar to get some. The guy gave me a cup of it! Did I bitch and complain, no! I accepted their customs and dealt with it. It's about time that some jerks like piggly wiggly here start to accept this culture!!!
Just to educate the "ugly American" - they do speak German as their native language in a big chunk of Switzerland (there is a lot of pretty tough dialects that even Germans don't understand too well - but it's still German). And the busting of the myth of an ugly American (well, that was more like fat, close-minded, arrogant stupid American)is a lot due to the Internet and the travelling - the fact that you can more easily talk and even meet people and this is what's educated you and us alike.
MOSQUE MOSQUE MOSQUE ANALOGY: Bush let the floodgate open of too much immigration to gain a vote just like the white man did to the American Indians kill them and build churches on Indian holy land but then complain about a mosque being built! ok that make sense? The Indians did not have a voice just like Unions don't have today. Dead wrong!

NEWSFLASH!!!! American Germans are know to be very conservative. Catholics, even hispanic votes are known to be extremely conservative to the point of bordline extremism. So now, which political party really is likely to hide socialist, Hitler types of motives on state and local levels in government???????????????
Most American tourists move through Europe quietly, politely and unnoticed. We do have loudmouthed ignorant assholes that travel abroad, and of course they're certainly the ones who make the impression.
By the way. When you answer a perfectly polite post with the rudeness I see here, it doesn't make you sound much smarter or more pleasant than the people you're vilifying.
Its such a waste of time to stereotype and hate. American or not, who cares? We are all people who want the same things out of life at the end of the day.
Um... point being? Why do we care what other countries think of us?They are probably just as full of themselves as we tend to be- they just don't have the empire to back it up.
@kindertoob Yeah, there are countries which are full of themselves. shitholes like serbia and numerous other poor countries. you need a empire to back you up for being stupid?
yeah i think you just proved how fucking retarded you yanks are... logical thinking flies straight out the window...
@Darusdei The french, Spanish, dutch and British have all been involved in imperialism, and all of these empires are now gone, the American version will be no different. At the time of these empires, attitudes of those not directly befitting from imperialism were likely antithetical like yours. I would also note the lack of civility in your reply proves that impoliteness is not distinctly American. To answer your question- it certainly helps.
dont think you are the only ones, the Europeans hate the British. trust me us brits can be just as obnoxious and loud as the American stereotype portray.
"OI PEDRO! got any chips this spanish food is shit" :/
Zionists portray an image of us via the TV. Americans have allowed themselves to be portrayed in an ugly way by a Zionist media. Maybe we can change this through the inter net. Maybe the world can see something other than the zionists who portray the masses in an ugly way.
Obviously i can't say a great deal about Europe as a whole, but having lived in South East England my whole life, I do see a lot of negative American stereotyping . But for the most part it seems to me like tongue-in-cheek, like saying women are bad drivers and white people can't dance. A large majority of people don't take it seriously. Also, maybe I'm wrong in saying this, but England has a culture sofull of mocking other countries and our own country that it's kind of become commonplace
People stereotype Americans as all being stereoptypers then laugh at an American for complaining about being stereotyped while saying "how ironic that an American is complaining about being stereotyped" when that particular person probably hasn't stereotyped anyone. But they assume that they have since they are an American.
@gaptt Yeah thats kinda the idea of stereotypes..... which i think are wrong. Same with the stereotype of all germans being nazis... Which is bullshit aswell.
@gaptt If you live outside of america you learn about whats happening in your country and america. If you live in america you only learn whats happening in the US, which is why americans are completely ignorant and arrogant about anything outside. Heck, most americans think new mexico is in mexico
God I so hoped the people aren't judging us on the people they see on the news or youtube.... Glad it is dying. I am an immigrant and I love America so much. I hated it in 2002 till I realized I am hating them all on a small group of retards. Most people I see hating Americans only hate it from the small group they meet or see on our "news" shows.. The entire Nation of America are not retarded, angry, arrogant, fucks who act like redneck cowboys.
@Thorbi1983 I was not saying that those were the only two options; that would be a false dilemma. I certainly did not mean to imply that. However, I stand by my statement that a lot of the resentment towards Americans stems from a little envy and cognitive dissonance. And of course, other cognitive biases (such as the availability heuristic).
I am easily annoyed myself, like Cenk reminded us in the last few days that he was a moderate conservative in the past and yet in the last few clips he says the lib progressive hes supposed to be.
Hes definitely moved to the left, but you cant completely change yourself.
Luckily hes an intelligent ugly american so he makes up for it and for that I still love to watch him.
Hey. Fuck that. When I visited my grandparents a couple of years ago, I asked for a soda at some restaurant... you know what I got? A plastic bag with a straw at the top, and the waitress told me to hold on to that shit so it wouldn't spill.
I remember having that same experience a long time ago when I was younger; but this shit is still going on today.
It's a new generation of very well educated parents now; lets teach our kids to be humble. This "noisy American" thing is garbage.
@DameunPutazo Yes, they do have very good waitresses overseas. She correctly observed, that to give you a glass would be too dangerous. This is why many European restaurants have this type of plastic bags to hand out to children to protect them.. I.e. an excellent service not often found in North America.
@Nitro18682 You're right in your observation of the waitress. But I went to Mexico. I was like 5, only to be met with the same plastic bag soda 15 years later. In Spain, my nationality was never an issue.
Glass is a luxury in Mexico. Buy a 6 pack of beer w/o returning the "other" ones you bought before and suddenly you're a "noisy American"... the ones that demand quality and luxury in "poorer" countries.
Personally, IDC what I get to sip my beverage. It just pisses me off to hear this shit.
Seriously I don't understand why it's socially acceptable to diss Americans. I'm from Oz and if someone disses our country to our face they get backhanded.
@JermzzzyFTW Just watch that you dont get backhanded back, i sure dont take swipes lightly.
Still, why is it acceptable? Because its true.
You are socially a representative of your country. If you dont like the way a person treats you due to nationality, dont make the stereotype worse, make it better.
Change their perception by being a positive representative. If you cant do that, your proving their point and allowing it to continue being socially acceptable.
@waltermh111 I don't owe it to anyone to tolerate rudeness- singing American Idiot in response to someone telling you they are American is in my opinion incredibly disrespectful and terrible social conduct: I'm not gonna smile and have a logical argument with someone trying to openly antagonize me.
Stop using the honorable name "Young Turks" for your BS garbage. You don't even identify yourself as Turkish-American but American so shut the hell up, Cenk and for that ana chick who loves kim kardashian aka kimbo so much, bitch, you are armenian-american and have nothing to do with being Turkish or Turks period so shut the hell up.
@spastic505 The name "The Young Turks" refers to the historical progressive anti-status quo reform movement that happened to be in Turkey, not Turkey itself. -_-
@spastic505 I believe Cenk is the only Turk in the show.
Nevermind the historical significance of the name of the show, if you don't get the whole 'Anna being Armenian on a show called the Young Turks' thing... then you don't belong here and should not be commenting on anything.
well of course the us was/is hated in europe for the politics under bush ect., and there is the ugly american coming to europe "once in a while". but as i am german i have experienced many ugly germans who fit most stereotypes as well and i feel always very embarresed when i meet them.
but just by the way "wiener schnitzel" is neither german or from switzerland its named after the capital of austria, who speak german as well, so cenk was really a stereotypical "ugly american" there ;)
@ytgv3fc7 You replied to my original comment, which was addressing the *logical fallacy* of assuming something about someone based solely on where they were born. That comment was made way before you interjected with your "case by case" experience. I wasn't talking about you, and if you're not adding to or rebutting my point (which you aren't), everything else you have to say is irrelevant.
I think Americans have a lot of reason to be proud. Still the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world. Americans invented the light bulb, affordable cars, PC, etc. Still though, all countries and/or empires rise and fall. Rome. Ancient China. Napoleonic France. Victorian Britain. All were great empires. Point is, America is great, but for how long can we stay that way?
@xitongzou Meh, the fundamental difference between us and past empires is that our land borders don't exceed our true nationhood. Rome conquered Europe; the Chinese conquered southern and then western China; France conquered Europe; Britain conquered the freakin' world; but we only have *alliances* to lose, not colonies. Our borders are merely our own fifty states and some minor territories like the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. We'll decline relatively but we won't collapse. :)
I strongly dislike loud people on public transport, though I haven't had the misfortune to be exposed to them too often :P I have usually had nice encounters with people from the states. I just don't see the problem of taking into consideration the cultural norms of the countries you are visiting. In Europe, the norm seems to be that on public transport, you shouldn't disturb the other passengers.
All empires have fallen and so will US eventually. Once a great nation is today known of it stupid reality shows, Paris Hilton- type idiot people, corrupt politicians, biased media, weak presidents, idiotic foreign policy and the list goes on and on. This is really what I think about your country. Have fun with it.
@IQR77 I hate this stuff too. But you do realize not everyone in America is a rich douchebag. But the problem is the same people who run my country also run yours: the banks.
I do like Finland. The girls are hot. You probably are having fun with that.
@Thorbi1983 My comment applied mainly to those who generally dislike/hate the U.S., not to those who held a positive opinion. You're simply denying the correlative.
@interstate317 But yeah.. I guess this vid is talking about the present time; sorry for deviating from that. I was just saying why I think America sucks from a historical viewpoint, and they've lived up to that reputation pretty well recently in terms of foreign affairs, in my opinion. The whole "police the world" attitude..
@interstate317 You seem to think that I'm blaming Europeans for all the atrocities committed to the natives, but if you actually knew any of the history behind it.. it's pretty obvious that Americans treated the native population as sub-human savages for a good while after the founding Europeans settled.
Thus, you're welcome. Historical accuracy wins, and bastardizing the race that originally occupied your country is a pretty good indication that you suck. But like I said, others have as well.
@interstate317 continuing from last post.. The exceedingly frequent treaties the U.S. made with the Natives, in which they never lived up to their word; the assimilation process that the government employed to get rid of them once and for all; the fact that it wasn't until the 1960s (or later, I'm not entirely sure) when the U.S. finally recognized that it had essentially raped the Native people and culture..
@interstate317 Obviously you missed out on a point of history or two.
1. Yes, smallpox killed a bajillion of them. That's not what I'm talking about; I'm referring to events such as the second thanksgiving (the first was the typical happy feast, but the second was a trap in which all the natives who attended were massacred); Custer's last (idiotic) stand; the repeated process of forcing natives to move off of their land via invasion and frequent massacre by the U.S. army and settlers..
Nothing wrong about being loud. The problem is the arrogance. Don't think the whole world has to speak english just because you're too lazy to learn a couple of words in another language...
@godmadeu Because I know how to speak it. I've been to the states and I've learned because I like the language and it's useful to know it. But that doesn't mean everybody should know your language and you shouldn't assume it and criticize a country because they don't speak enough english (which americans do often)
What do you propose? Should I not speak english just to make a point? That's just stupid and you know it.
@bernytheman I live in America and I agree with you. However, I would say that if you do move to an English speaking community you should make an effort to learn that language while (of course most Americans won't do this) the rest learning small (such as pleasantries) parts of your language.
@pologatch I agree 100%. But if you live elsewhere, you don't have to learn english just because you have to welcome a "gringo" into your country. It's their jjob to learn the local language; not the other wa around. Plus, there's never been nothing wrong about learning a little more, richt?
@bernytheman Of course. However, at least some parts of America are trying to fix this situation. I know some places were people have to learn a second language in high school. Most people take Spanish for instance but some places are trying to push people towards Chinese as America is doing a lot of trading with them.
as a turk living in germany i can say europe is racist. after my studies i will go to the us or far east but there is no way i can live in here. even i was born here...
@arborinfelix dont come to the states if you want to avoid racism, lol
How can you not know of our racist issues, unless your skin is the right color to blend into the area you move to, or you find a multi-national city. But then you can find those things in europe.
Or try canada. I recommend it. Good country and unless your coming here with a wealthy job, UHC is something I wish we would get someday, but america is so divided and selfish, its not likely.
growing support for anti-immigration parties (swedish democrats, PVV, BNP(sadly) ) polls in franch, germany, UK many showing growing opposition to immigration. the US may not be the most enlightened nation but its based on englightenment values/thinkers and that appeals a lot more to WEurope than Turkish/Moroccan Islamists who refuse to integrate and live off state benefits. most antiUS feeling was, as sed in the vid, b/c Bush was such a stereotype yokel schmuck.
I learned to speak english at a very young age when I was like 8.
And when I found an american tourist and he/she was asking something I was glad to answer and average ppl who didn't speak even a word were eager to help aswell.
I've never seen an american having bad times, I think they want to have fun and experience stuff so rarely complain with bad attitude and the overal oppinion of american tourists from non lefties ppl has always been good.
I think the oppinion on politics has always been different on that of tourism.
Most south american countries see american tourists as tourists. But maybe that's because I'm south american, I'm amazed that people in europe is affected by your view in politics.
Maybe we are like that because we don't enter wars since like 50 years ago yet we have to struggle to have decent quality lifestyles cause of our economies and we simply want peace and good interaction and among outsiders as well.
@lucifer898 trololol saved the world? the freaking yankies? you just send 100k soldiers by the last years of the wars, right after rusia had done all the work (costing them millions of lives) and the just claim the victory for them. i wold like to see what you and your punny shermans would have done against the german tigersif it wasnt for the T4 and rusian winter forces. And thats in europe, in the pacific you where just so pussies you prefer to commit genocide instead of fight a proper war
@lucifer898 Hey i'm American i was trying to remember... well i drank a lot the other night but exactly when did we save the world? Was it thursday? Or are you referring to two wars you never fought in and had nothing at all to do with?
Also All America really saved in world war I, was Britians crumbling empire. If germany won, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but britian might've lost her colonies sooner, and germany might've aquired a few more.
@KpopManiacSFL WWI was an absolute waste of time as far as America was concerned. Come to think of it, I don't think ANY nation benefitted from it. Woodrow Wilson was the WORST US President of all time in my opinion, worse than Carter, Nixon, Obama, much much worse than Bush.
@JimboJ1981 what about the whole western front? and the italian front? And what about tojo? Diddnt russia declare war on japan a few days before they surrendered?
The American film industry, radio and television stations are constantly pumping out the Mantra: We are the best, better than all other people on the earth. we are winners, the best soldiers around, the toughest, the most brilliant, have the best government of all, are the most charitable, the most religious etc. etc. For people outside America, how would you turn out if you had this form of brainwashing taking place every day, night and day?
@VictimOfBoredom I knew exactly what your were referring to. However, I did not wish to compare America to China. The new Chinese films do not glorify their people whatsoever. Usually, there are more losers than winners in their films. Here is why I wrote the remarks about the American film industry and radio. I find, that people from countries outside American rarely blow their horn about their countries or culture. [..]
@Nitro18682 You clearly haven't seen very many Chinese films—get back to me when you have.
Either that, or when you see American culture being glorified, you cringe in disgust; and when you see Chinese culture similarly being glorified, you nod in oh-I'm-so-cultured-and-open-minded admiration.
@VictimOfBoredom Well, there really are not that many Chinese films around. I never talked about American culture, it is obviously as prominent as any country;s culture. I am talking about s

I've met people from all over the world who act no different than "ugly americans" the only difference is they're not from a world super power. I'm not saying there aren't ugly americans, what I'm saying is that its not something that is exclusive to the US.

Hey.
DameunPutazo 1 year ago
@DameunPutazo Yes, they do have very good waitresses overseas. She correctly observed, that to give you a glass would be too dangerous. This is why many European restaurants have this type of plastic bags to hand out to children to protect them.. I.e. an excellent service not often found in North America.
Nitro18682 1 year ago
@Nitro18682 You're right in your observation of the waitress. But I went to Mexico. I was like 5, only to be met with the same plastic bag soda 15 years later. In Spain, my nationality was never an issue.
Glass is a luxury in Mexico. Buy a 6 pack of beer w/o returning the "other" ones you bought before and suddenly you're a "noisy American"... the ones that demand quality and luxury in "poorer" countries.
Personally, IDC what I get to sip my beverage. It just pisses me off to hear this shit.

VictimOfBoredom 1 year ago
@JermzzzyFTW Just watch that you dont get backhanded back, i sure dont take swipes lightly.
Still, why is it acceptable? Because its true.
You are socially a representative of your country. If you dont like the way a person treats you due to nationality, dont make the stereotype worse, make it better.
Change their perception by being a positive representative. If you cant do that, your proving their point and allowing it to continue being socially acceptable.
waltermh111 1 year ago 6
@waltermh111 I don't owe it to anyone to tolerate rudeness- singing American Idiot in response to someone telling you they are American is in my opinion incredibly disrespectful and terrible social conduct: I'm not gonna smile and have a logical argument with someone trying to openly antagonize me.

Point is, America is great, but for how long can we stay that way?
xitongzou 1 year ago
@xitongzou Meh, the fundamental difference between us and past empires is that our land borders don't exceed our true nationhood. Rome conquered Europe; the Chinese conquered southern and then western China; France conquered Europe; Britain conquered the freakin' world; but we only have *alliances* to lose, not colonies. Our borders are merely our own fifty states and some minor territories like the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. We'll decline relatively but we won't collapse. :)

Streetz507 1 year ago
@interstate317 But yeah.. I guess this vid is talking about the present time; sorry for deviating from that. I was just saying why I think America sucks from a historical viewpoint, and they've lived up to that reputation pretty well recently in terms of foreign affairs, in my opinion. The whole "police the world" attitude..
Meh.
cotton3434 1 year ago
@interstate317 You seem to think that I'm blaming Europeans for all the atrocities committed to the natives, but if you actually knew any of the history behind it.. it's pretty obvious that Americans treated the native population as sub-human savages for a good while after the founding Europeans settled.
Thus, you're welcome. Historical accuracy wins, and bastardizing the race that originally occupied your country is a pretty good indication that you suck. But like I said, others have as well.
cotton3434 1 year ago
@interstate317 continuing from last post.. The exceedingly frequent treaties the U.S. made with the Natives, in which they never lived up to their word; the assimilation process that the government employed to get rid of them once and for all; the fact that it wasn't until the 1960s (or later, I'm not entirely sure) when the U.S. finally recognized that it had essentially raped the Native people and culture..
cotton3434 1 year ago
@interstate317 Obviously you missed out on a point of history or two.
1. Yes, smallpox killed a bajillion of them. That's not what I'm talking about; I'm referring to events such as the second thanksgiving (the first was the typical happy feast, but the second was a trap in which all the natives who attended were massacred); Custer's last (idiotic) stand; the repeated process of forcing natives to move off of their land via invasion and frequent massacre by the U.S. army and settlers..
cotton3434 1 year ago
Nothing wrong about being loud. The problem is the arrogance. Don't think the whole world has to speak english just because you're too lazy to learn a couple of words in another language...
bernytheman 1 year ago 30
@bernytheman then, why are you speaking english ??
godmadeu 1 year ago
@godmadeu Because I know how to speak it. I've been to the states and I've learned because I like the language and it's useful to know it. But that doesn't mean everybody should know your language and you shouldn't assume it and criticize a country because they don't speak enough english (which americans do often)
What do you propose? Should I not speak english just to make a point? That's just stupid and you know it.
bernytheman 1 year ago
@bernytheman I live in America and I agree with you. However, I would say that if you do move to an English speaking community you should make an effort to learn that language while (of course most Americans won't do this) the rest learning small (such as pleasantries) parts of your language.
pologatch 1 year ago
@pologatch I agree 100%. But if you live elsewhere, you don't have to learn english just because you have to welcome a "gringo" into your country. It's their jjob to learn the local language; not the other wa around. Plus, there's never been nothing wrong about learning a little more, richt?
bernytheman 1 year ago
@bernytheman Of course. However, at least some parts of America are trying to fix this situation. I know some places were people have to learn a second language in high school. Most people take Spanish for instance but some places are trying to push people towards Chinese as America is doing a lot of trading with them.
