  • Way to go McGyver!!

  • absolutely ridiculous. You'd never be able to access your data for so many different reasons... ever hear of a clean room? Your KITCHEN is not clean. If your data is important enough, please don't try this.

  • Yeah, defiantly don't touch the platters!! Keep everything spotless...

  • Chris, I'm not sure what you mean?

  • after you have put the platters back in does it matter if you spin the platters like you did after you had transfered the platters?

Probably a dumb question but i am going to be doing this sometime next week so need all the info i can get lol

    Many Thanks

    Chris

  • @3tasker1 The hard drive he is using is a hard drive that he is never planning on using again. When working with the platters they have to stay perfectly clean, not even a spec of dust can be on there and definitely not finger prints. DO NOT touch the platters on a hard drive you are trying to save.

  • The platters don't come up as far as the ribs. I have used the tool and it worked on a 500GB HDD...

  • lol great idea man, i'd still be terrified the platters would move though.. but definitely cheaper than buying a multi platter tool.

  • Wonderful!!!

wouldn't ribs on the can prevent some of platters from holding? were you able to successfully change platters on high-capacity multi-platter drive?
