too bad for stevo, he's a drunk... he's one of the best drummers in the world, but he will get worse and worse with the alchohol... too bad for him. i wish i could stop him from drinking
why is it that people who like metal type bands always have to argue that the drummers they like are better like really come on all drummers are good just in different ways
its a good solo so shut your mouth.. he can do a lot better anyways, watch a drum cover of the bitter end-sum 41 thatll do it, its not even a solo its just awesome!
i love stevo as a drummer, but the proper use of cymbals just perfects the art of drumming.. i dnt car what sorta music your into, if your into good drummers, Lamd of God's Chris Adler is one to check out! can make use of double kickers like no1 i know, and is THE single best drummer i know at creating fills- check the shit in Ruin, 2.40
i didnt know chris adler and it seems he does some pretty awesome stuff, but if you think he is the single best drummer at creating fills, you will shit your pants watching benny greb. if you dont know him yet, you should check out his 2005 montreal drum fest solo.
"maiden and priest were the gods tht we praised. cause we like having fun at other peoples expense then. its non eof my concern i guess i'll new learn. i'm sick of being told to wait my turn"
I agree, he is under-rated. He is a good drummer, but he is not the best. His solo wasn't that hard, I could play it almost note for note with a bit of practice, but it did sound nice.
He's always been one of my favorite drummers, not because he's a super talented drummer that kicks ass, but just because he's great and makes some nice bad ass beats.
ya man that drum solo was fucking insane!! and i agree dude there is no way in hell u can do that wit one bass pedal anyone know the song they was performing????
why wud i wanna just blast out straight 32nd notes it sounds boring, this is not that technially challenging or particulary good solo to listen too. go learn something about drums mate. not sayig hes a bad drummer thou hes jst lame at soloing
this is the only recorded solo i know of and its more than 7 years old. he has improved a lot but he rarely shows it in solos. check out the making of underclass hero and watch the part about the drums recording (starts at ~14:00). its not much, but you should be able to hear the difference.
idiot. the bass drum is 16ths them with the toms filling in the extra spaces makes it 32nd notes! aka blasting 16ths notes. and the random speedy stuff hes doing round the kit later is also 16ths. oh and hes using two pedals
i wouldnt say it like that, because deryck is one hell of a musician in terms writing and composing .. but steve is definately the one who is most in control of his instrument
I saw sum 41 live once.. It was a good show.. Derek asked the crowd what covers they wanted to hear and someone said metallica four horsemen and they played two sweet metallica covers
if you ask me, the whole travis vs. stevo thing is so ridiculous and childish. imo they have a completely different drumming style and i wouldnt say one or the other is a better drummer in general.
both have their unique skills (like i think stevo is more focussed on intense rolls while travis is more into tricky off-beat stuff) and its up to your personal taste who is your favorite ..
stevo i like better, i think blink 182 is overated. They are very successful yes, but they suck. Its all about being in the right place at the right time :/
i also like stevo better but i disagree, blink182 had some very good songs that i listen to quite often and as musicians they are awesome. they did what they live for and they succeeded until they broke up. sometimes i just dont like the sound of their vocals so much which is one of the many reasons why sum41 is still my all-time favorite band.

I don't know. I think Stevo has a much cleaner double bass than Travis Barker. He's a great drummer; a lot of the drummers I've met who can double bass overuse it a lot and it really gets annoying when they try to add it to every single song, but it's good to see a skilled drummer here who also knows when to keep it simple and clean.
ofcourse Stevo plays double bass... listen to the end of Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times... especially the live version, he plays it... very last seconds...
nope thats actually a roll on the toms. you can see it in the making of. i think the only time he used double-bass on an album was in 'welcome to hell' and one other track that was on chuck. of course live its another story...
if you ask me, its actually even more awesome because of that fact. i desperately tried to figure it out but i cant even play that part slowly on my drums, because i just dont get the correct sequence of the hands.
theres double bass on still waiting, mr amsterdam, hyper droid, bitter end, welcome to hell, 88, no reason, open your eyes, im not the one, no brains, thanks for nothing and billy spleen. yeah i know, im sad.

travis does have a very very good technique, you cant deny that. watch the "travis barker snare drum solo", this guy is crazy. still, I like his drummings not as much as stevos, I cant explain why. I think its because of his character which makes him so much more than just another drummer.
none of us knows how good steve really is. travis is just all over the place promoting himself, thats why one would think he is the better drummer, but you cant seriously compare him with steve. steve never left his role as the core member of sum41 besides playing some drums for operation m.d., the latest avril record and directing a few videos.
Stevo is good, and could give Travis a run for his money, but in the long run there are only few drummers that could compare to Travis. I believe Travis is ranked in the hundred greatest drummers, and stevo isn't close to making the list.
Are you kidding me? 'Few drummers could compare to Travis'? Is that a joke? Get your shit straight, my friend. Travis would be impressive if he was a teenager. He's just about average for someone his age. He's good, but he's so damn overrated. Go look at Buddy Rich, Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart, Dave Wekl, Bill Bruford, Steve Smith. And even if the mainstream was all there was to drumming, Stevo is much, much, much better than Travis in technique, composition, and style. Learn a thing or two about..
cont: ..music before you go around judging drummers based on some list you found online, compiled by other people who don't know shit. I personally know at least four drummers in their teen years, and five drummers in their twenties or thirties (at a drum store I go to a lot) who are better than Travis by very far. And don't give me that shit about 'if he's not that good, why is he famous?'. He's famous because Blink 182 has character. And I'm not saying he's bad, but he's NOT in the top 100...
And because they struck it lucky. Do you know how many great bands go unnoticed? How many shitty bands hit it big (ie Fall Out Boy)? Commercial success and musicianship are completely unrelated. Actually listen to this solo. Really listen to it. It's got rhythm, dynamics, complexity, but still gets the audience going. All Travis does is play fast drum-rolls, accenting every third note (trust me, I tried to learn one of his solos in middle school) and maybe some other fast fills, but really, he's
absolutely nothing. In the long run, there are few drummers who keep Travis as an idol past high school. Go shopping around the progressive rock section, or the jazz section, and you'll see who are truly good drummers and who have pseudo-skill. Sorry to write so much, but more than what I wrote, there is so much wrong with what YOU wrote. Go educate yourself, kid.
What is that for a drum set?

I prefer Travis barker but Travis isn't the better drummer on the world (my favourite but not the greatest)
Stevo have a great style and make Sum 41 sounds really good.
Stop comparing, music isn't a race or a contest it's art.
also this drum solo was good but I prefer stevo's drumming in some song like bitter end, no solution or even underclass hero...
