Shell-shock still exists (idk the new term), and many soldiers have nightmares, including my father, 82nd Airborne in Somalia, when they return. My teacher fought in Vietnam as a Ranger but he quit after a simple reconissance mission and his squad got hit by a mine, with the vietcongs expecting them. But the two scouts that went ahead could have just stayed and wait for reinforcements but they fired into the vietcong army moving in, and sacrifed themselves to save about 20 men. He has a picture of both of them and hangs in his bedroom and he celebrated Christmas with one of their wifes until she died and promised to never forget them.
To those that answered a call to serve, to those that go into harms way so that I may be safe, to those that leave loved ones so that my family can live in happiness, to those that endured the hell of war so that we may enjoy the the benefits of peace...Thank you. Your courage, sacrafice, dedication and honor is what truly makes us great.

Don't politicize the duty done by our vets. Don't use them to try to justify your beliefs or anything like that. Just thank them.
I don't care if you're for or against this or any future war, never degrade a soldier, never strip him of his self respect or right to be respected for serving our country. Supporting their bravery doesn't mean supporting a war or a particular presidents decision to engage in war, i...t means respecting and honoring those who have run, walked or fallen defending our freedom.

I think every day about how what ever I do in life pales in comparison to what our soldiers have sacrificed for us. Whether for the "right" or the "wrong" cause, they do what they are called to do regardless, and for this we all owe our thanks. My best friend just left for boot camp and its given me new perspective. We are surrounded by heroes even if we fail to see them.

Now do I agree with where they're sent sometimes? No, that's beyond their control. no one really understands what it is to be a soldier unless they've been there. last tour i watched my best freind, that i had known since kinderkarten, die. he was awake till the end, and there was nothign i coudl do. do you have any IDEA what that is like? if someone does, please talk to me. i'm preparing to go back over again soon.

My teacher fought in Vietnam as a Ranger but he quit after a simple reconissance mission and his squad got hit by a mine, with the vietcongs expecting them. But the two scouts that went ahead could have just stayed and wait for reinforcements but they fired into the vietcong army moving in, and sacrifed themselves to save about 20 men. He has a picture of both of them and hangs in his bedroom and he celebrated Christmas with one of their wifes until she died and promised to never forget them.

I'm a vet, a former Marine. I'm a liberal. While I find some of the comments here by those on the psychotic left incredibly distasteful, there are some comments from the psychotic right that are just as bad.
Don't politicize the duty done by our vets. Don't use them to try to justify your beliefs or anything like that. Just thank them.

I think every day about how what ever I do in life pales in comparison to what our soldiers have sacrificed for us. Whether for the "right" or the "wrong" cause, they do what they are called to do regardless, and for this we all owe our thanks. My best friend just left for boot camp and its given me new perspective. We are surrounded by heroes even if we fail to see them.
