  • looka like 13B in Army

  • Just a question. Could some one put here what the crew are saying when they are loading this beast please

  • Since it is pending approval. Sorry about all the comments at once.. I don't mean to bother you, I just get all hyped up when I watch this stuff.

  • ****** U.S.A. NUMBER ! *****

  • Howitzer's are amazing.

  • @BongWaterSkinDiver

As far as I have been informed this was an actual fire misson, as opposed to a training shot. the ones who can answer that better are free to chime in.

  • Why in Hell does this Gun Crew have their propellant charges stacked up on a rail leg? Are they //trying// to get themselves killed? Who-in-Hell is training these people?

  • Who put a soldier in there

  • HOOAH - ARMY ...HOORA- maeines

  • @bertgomez1 Marines not maeines dumbass

  • So if you get this job as you're MOS, what is the deployement like? Do you get to use the guns often? Are do you do all that training, get overseas and then just do infantry type jobs? Any information is much appreciated.

    Semper Fi!

  • That is quite nice howitzer, I have to admit. But you really can't fire it more than 3-4 times a minute? That's too bad because I think that people in the receiving end would like more of that

  • Didnt think this video would become so popular. I was the guy running the powder without the flak jaket lol. It was frequen hot as hell in that powder room

  • @redrocket1180

Bet it was. Welcome back from planet war.

  • @redrocket1180 Do you know how these things are aimed?

  • I just got a boner

  • semper fi, OORAH!!!

  • LOVE THIS SHIT!

  • LOUD?!

  • This is oddly satisfying.

  • very beautiful

  • Hooah marines! Blow some shit up!

  • @alielbaryeshua HOORAH=Army, OORAH=Marines, just some useful info

  • @XWHITEoKNIGHTX19 hooah*

  • WE retired these ol beasts! I lived on this gunline! Wow....S 3/12 we brought in M777A2's at the tail end of 07'.

  • what were you shooting at?

  • swab bucket cocktail anyone??

  • I want to see downrange at the business end.

  • Sounds like thunder. Does that mean arty is raining the heavens down onto the haji's? Glad these guys gonna have my back in Afghan. Semper Fi!!

  • I watched a similar video, but drill, not real, and army, not marines. The thing I noticed was the army swabbed the bore every time, and here I didn't see that. Is that because stick was used in stead of bag?

  • good job guys steel on target!

  • Give it to 'em Boys. O Hail O Hail Artillery. King Of Battle.

  • Yeah ! american power. nice one

  • What are they shooting at

  • @12345braddy Well, I'm going to take an outrageous guess here, the enemy?

  • 1 shot 12 kills 10,000 yards -Marine Artillery

  • BOOOOM!!!

    Awe.... yeah....!

  • You can't tell how far the projo is going from just the fire commands (UNLESS you ARE doing direct fire-the Chief of Section does that).

There are too many variables- ambiant temp, powder chg, powder temp., barometric pressure, elevation of the piece vs the target, earth position, rotation of the earth, sqaure wgt. of the round, fz wgt. and tons more info...

The wheels aren't supposed to touch the groun on an M198 in firing pos,They're pumped up hydraulics-pumped manually.prob. more than12200m

  • My bad, I was in lala land.. lol Ch8 is different..

  • Quadrant 302 Chg 8 (M119) range would be approximately 12,200 meters

  • HP 509! lol

  • the best alarm clock in the world.....

  • do arti guys go through soi before going to arti school?

  • @troym33

yes, they go to MCT (Marine Combat training) then to god awful Ft. Sill OK.

  • @troym33 All Marines regardless of MOS to include Arty go through SOI, they will go through MCT whereas the 03xx's go through ITB, both schools under SOI

  • @kiptoy123

Sure does get the job done

Eat lead dirt bag!!! BOOM with rumble

  • Damn was that charge 7 white bag? That 1st round was a lot of displacement.

  • After viewing this video, go to my Marine Artillery link called "The 08" I'm sure you will all enjoy it!! S.N., this video is tight!!

  • I question BloodyAx guesses (17/18 Km away for target) . That seems like a low elevation for the Howitzer- To me seems more like direct-fire / gun shot versus howitzer lob.

Why do the wheels move on the 1st shot? Not set/ dug in yet? Or will someone claim illusion form cameraman jerkiness.

  • @wfoj21

I'm thinking fresh set, or switch from green bags to stick. may have been an azimuth change. only the cannon cockers on site could tell you.

  • @wfoj21 Depending on wind conditions, and also if they are in a high altitude position firing on a lower altitude position, and if the maximum range of the howitzer is a lot more than 18km with a 45 degree angle, then perhaps it is possible that this firing angle of roughly 25 degrees or so is feasible for that range assuming the trajectory has no terrain features to contend with. By the time it gets out there it's dropping in at a steeper angle than that of muzzle departure. Just brainstorming.

  • @wfoj21 I wasn't on this section, but I was with this unit. The reason the howitzer jumped back like that is 1) for quick azimuth changes we never dug the spades in, 2) they were firing stick propellents. That's why the howitzer jumped back so much on the first round.

  • @mattygunn666

Not sure what stick propellant is....where does it fit in with green & white bag?

  • the hole fuckin gun backs up 5 yards

  • that's one huge round coming out of that thing!

  • Damn. You can kill a shitload of Taliban dirtbags with that thing.

  • Is there an officer here? If so, which one is he?

  • is this during desert shield?

  • Seat home ready ram!!! Man that brings back memories. Stay safe brothers....

  • Sad thing that you have to experience this yourself before you start to appreciate it.

Video camera just cant capture it all...

  • its dangerous standing around that thing

  • omg could you imagine getting hit by the backblast on that bitch? you sure aint gunna have kids haha

  • brings back memoirs

  • i love the sound of artillery

  • I just enlisted yesterday, and Artillery Fire Control Man is my job, 0844, hell yeah.

  • sucks to be the enemy of the united states

  • No umbrella can stop steel rain ! Ooh Rah !

  • Hey Tango! I was part of the FDC for this battery when they were firing this mission! Cool that I found this. I wonder if I was actually working this mission.

  • makes me wanna join the marines, i don't care if i'm not american

  • Somewhere, off to the left, is a place that it would really suck to be at.

  • Fire for effect :D

Artillery, bringing dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl ;)

  • @Electricfox excellent quote

  • @Electricfox Frederick the Great

  • M198 155mm, predecessor to the M777. Probably HE rounds with time fuses, 7 white bag powder charge. Tube elevation and charge, they're probably shooting 17 or 18 kilometers. The rounds are going to land within 30- 50 meters of their target. That's plenty close to completely ruin someone's day

  • @bloodyax I remember back in the mid80"s, I witnessed a T.O.T. (time on target) while assigned to a field arty unit out of Camp Lejeune N.C. We had an operation at Ft Bragg N.C. because they had a much larger range to fire at, when that TOT went down ...all HELL broke lose, it was listening to 200 screaming trains coming over your head at one time, all I could do from my position was hunker down and pray that one round didn't fall short

  • @oldrumer4u

Yeah evil things man evil things...only one thing that scared me worse in my time in. three letters. FPF (Final Protective Fire)

  • @Dragonx0562 Final Protective Fire...I sense a little ol Corps in that statement, do they still use that today? Iserved back in the 70's , you're right an FPF was a last and final resort, kinda a last chance, it sounds dismal doesn't it brother.

  • too much guys go hard

  • Damn Straight.

  • wtf nice field training, shells all over the place

  • M198's gotta love them!!! C 1/11 for life!!!

  • I found what I want for christmas

  • dont get tired of watching this stuff

  • Joel Randy Ray and Tim .. good ol times

  • damn you can see the smoke right before you hear the sound of the shot

  • I love how the damn gun keeps moving back and they're not recalibrating the trajectory of the round....small Movement in Feet=large movement yards in such a far distance. :\ not cool. But usmc is the best. Love the video.

  • @19mazda90man You see the guy on the far left and that hand wheel? thats the gunner after each shot he checks the sights to ensure the gun is still on the correct fire mission data he is sighting in on aiming posts to compensate for displacement. Then before the shot the section cheif also verifies the fire data before giving the command to fire.

  • @19mazda90man

Actually after each round fired the guy on the left checks the bearing (left/right direction) and the guy on the other side of the gun re-lays the elevation. Both ensuring the bubbles are level. The gun fires using colimators, which when the gun has been given line, will fire in the right direction all the time. Its an area weapon and if they were firing danger close then the drills would be different. I agree though, fantastic video showing what a real job is. Oh im aussie arty

  • @19mazda90man Watch the Gunner he is making slight adjustments to the Tube, and using Aiming posts (in a FOB) he isn't going to have to make as many adjustments as usual.

  • recalibrating? displacement of the tube doesn't effect muzzle velocity. the only thing to worry about is whether or not the azimuth of lay was effected. but hey, it's an area fire weapon and you won't take the time to relay the howitzer in between rounds in the middle of a fire mission.

  • @19mazda90man

the gunner and Assistant Gunner do adjust, the adjustments at range are only a few mils, doesn't look like much, but has a good effect down range. (1 mil = 1 meter at 1000 meters approx)

  • do you know what there firing at

  • @pimpions

    No, not off hand

  • @pimpions i dont give a shit as long as they keep firing that sweet bitch, hooah:)

  • @pimpions TERRORISTS

  • barrette 450cal :)

  • I'm sure that those on the other end of that artillery are quite convinced of its effectiveness.

  • good job devil dogs, but you guys aint got nothin on 5th batallion 11th marines, and whats with the devil without his gear? and maybe yall can slap fire one of those stick charges

  • ok rocket man. i'll take my howitzers any day.

  • awsome power man

  • Wait, we still use artillary? Awesome, I thought we didn't use it anymore but dats pretty cool

  • nicely done. i was the corpsman for fox company and i bit the primer lol. i still have it somewhere at home.

  • Holy shyt

  • SLOW!!!!!!!!

  • omg.. I dont wanna be in the wrong end of that baby :D

  • do they actually hit anyone with this weapon? i guess they just get the desert ground. And how much is one shoot? doe not look effective at all..

  • @sexyLASTninja

normally they use VT ( variable Time) Fusing on shells, as well as impact rounds. they don't need to directly hit as each shell is deadly to about 100m easy, not to mention the shells with VT fuzing going off 10 - 15m over the target area. At 350$US a shell, it's less costly than a Laser Guided bomb, and it has saved many a troopers ass, mine included,

  • @sexyLASTninja You have never served, We call Artillary the king of battle for a reason, now go back to your starbucks and dirty fotted hippies and have a toke or two.

  • @sexyLASTninja don't really need to "hit" your target...just getting close can do the trick with the 155mm

  • @sexyLASTninja You have never been in the military it is obvious to me, we call artillary the king of battle. With a forward observer or a roving drone they can whipe out three blocls of your cushiee neighborhood, thats just 155mm, I dont belive why I comment to you civies, this is the last time.

  • @sexyLASTninja

    Yes! It is VERY effective!

  • @sexyLASTninja; You got a few angry responses that were uncalled for, I won't be rude to you. But yes it's very effective, howitzers (and mortars for that matter) target an area rather than an object, it could be like a football field for example. And you don't fire one howitzer or one shot, so when, say, twelve of those rounds hit the target area, the power of the detonations and the thousands of small metal pieces the shells turn into, believe me, it wipes out just about anything living.

  • @sexyLASTninja; there are different types of rounds so it just might be something else they're firing in this vid, but watch the link below, you'll see that artillery very effective. It's just one round in that film, multiply that with, say, twelve and you'll se why it's not a pleasant experience to stay in the target area.

  • @sexyLASTninja Try being on the receiving end, moron...

  • @sexyLASTninja many fights have been won cause of artillery

  • @sexyLASTninja They are shooting at a target more than 16 km away. The reason I know that is the fact that I served over three years on a M-198 and they are using a charge 7 white bag and that is the second biggest charge one can put in a M-198. The only people who do not think a 155mm round is effective are the ones who have never been on the receiving end of one.

  • @sexyLASTninja .... uh, ask the Republican Guard in Iraq if Marines can hit anything with Howitzers.

  • @sexyLASTninja It's artillery so you don't try to hit "someone" it's usually like a target like a building or within a compound. They could also be shooting smoke to create a smoke screen at night they can shoot rounds that provide illumination. They have a crew down range in the feild calling in the shots where they want them to hit and it's generally quite accurate unless someone screws up. and one shot can range from $800 to $80000. It's like all tools it's effective in the right situation.

  • @lancerjah

rounds usually don't cost that much. The base cost of a M107 shell is 350$US / unit

the base cost of the newer M549A1 an M795 shells go from 333$US/shell ( for the m795 HE) to 1,500$USD/shell ( for the special hybri Rocket assist) still costing less than a GBU-12 Paveway laser guided bomb at 19,000/unit. they kill out ro 50 m, and there's a lot of them coming...cheap and painful.

  • look at that gun JUMP when they shoot it! Notice the marine in boots and utes wants to be NOWHERE NEAR that beast when they fire it. Whoever's downrange is about to have a really bad day.

We'd get proper anchoring for it, but all our anchor budget went to MRAPS.

  • Fuckin sweet! good work doing a great job men.

  • 5 shots in a 1:09 nice job to the crew

  • awesome:)

  • yea!!! GO MARINES!!!!

  • we are much more faster. Even with a bigger guns. Sorry guys

  • this is the difference between Marines and all those light infantry special forces pussies.

we bring the big guns and level entire fucking towns

  • OOORAH!

  • I'd love to see a 3 camera High Definition shoot of what we just saw. Awesome piece of machinery.

  • damm i get mad when i see this video..

that was suppose to be my job in the marine corps..now i''ma a fieldwireman..but o'well..i like this job too

  • Awesome work guys.

  • God I love my country! The precision... verifing the range, load and charge... Then its on its way to Dirka Dirka... Get some Marines!

  • India is going to purchase 145 units of these for a $647-Million deal.

  • got my asvab scores and this is one of my top choices even before i took it

    scored a 66 btw :)

  • god damn! Look at the size of that mother fucker! I feel sorry for whatevers on the other side! Ooh-rah!

  • They're pretty quick. Could be alot faster, but not bad at all.

  • wow american army kick ass

  • I wonder if i could get one of those, and if so could i shoot it at my local gun club :)

  • @rockaholic20 lol

  • i dont believe gun line visits are allowed. if you know the instructor maybe but most likley not.. they train with the new howitzers any way now just not the same

  • what about shoot and scoot or they will blow your ass to pieces.

  • thats what i want to do in the marines.

  • nice kick

  • this is the job i hope to do but i have one question... this has gota fuck up your ears lol

  • the army knows that....so they give artillery and any other high explosive squads users a ear cover...its....pretty big..

  • yes but MARINES love this shit OORAH

  • ... in addition.. This has to royally fuck the targets up too!

  • what?!?

  • @lordlane4 yeah lol but they wear a LOT of ear protection (not just for the sound. Theres a HUGE percussion wave too i think

  • yes it does thats why they put you in the hearing conservation program which is a joke

  • NICE ~

  • Sweet! What size gun is that big mother?

  • that is a M198 155mm towed Howitzer

  • @Dragonx0562 actually you are close its the new M777

  • @Wmfl1386

Don't think so, IIRC this was shot before the M77 was fielded, and there's no bent ram in sight, or crooked forward trails.

  • @Wmfl1386 this was before the m777 its the m98

  • @Wmfl1386 actually this is the m198 the marine corp now uses the m777A2

  • Are there any 0811's here that know if FT Sill allows visits to a gun line? I've been out for some time and would love to smell that smoke and feel that percussion again. OhhRah Gun1 Echo battery 2/10! Damn talkin' early 90's.

  • I hear yah. I think they understand that the days of huge mobile warfare conflicts are becoming a thing of the past. Hell, the air force alone can devastate an army's armor within days of the start of a conflict. They need to focus more on the individual soldier to help them more in the urban warfare aspect. Its getting better but far from an exact science. Now Israel, they need mobility to get from one point to another so they still use the mobile arty. They are some ass kickers, Israelis.

  • so they were actually shooting at the enemy here? cool video

  • Fucking Awesome!

  • Semper Fi, I had lots of buds from Tango in the late 90's I was in Romeo

  • doesn't the marines use the M109 anymore?

  • for mobile use, yes. for firebase use, no, not that I know of.

  • The M109 is only used for salutes. The M198 is being phased out to make room for the triple 777.
