Withdrawn by the german Luftwaffe already in late 1941, due to its faible capacities the Do17Z was still good enough for Germanies allied forces. Same as the USA and USSR: their allies got also only the old crab of equipment.
Amazingly, one of these Dornier 17 bombers was just discovered (April 2011) intact underwater off the English coast in abt 50ft of water. It is thought to be the last remaining example. Preparations are underway to retrieve it carefully. It is upside down and the cabin is crushed, but anything can be rebuilt. Germany made no long-range bombers for WWII, which hindered their strategic capabilities.
@FLSHBK1 Forgot to add the term "heavy" ~ meant to say Germany made no long range HEAVY bombers for WWII, which hindered their strategic capabilities.
i wonder if u would know. me and my dad are trying to find out what number the dornier do-17's of the Finnish Air Force went to. the highest i could find was DN-63 . would u know if there are higher ones?
Awsome document! much better than most german videos. great sound and few propaganda comments. by the way: finnish is imo verry beautiful and one of my favorite languages!
at 4:42 action begins, bombs dropped+russian planes comes out

Bewundernswert, was die Finnen mit ihren begrenzten Möglichkeiten geschafft haben.
