Good point. I also thought that it was a little strange that, that little girl looked like she was all alone without her parents. (I'm sure that karate guy is not related to her, or her friend, and he probably doesn't know her since it looks like he never said her name from 0:08-0:10). Probably that little girls parents are not being very loving and caring towards her where she must have secretly ran away from them.
Well, since that girl was very young, I did feel a little sad that it looks like she was alone not with anyone. Usually I'm a person who would feel sad to see any little kid lost and/or crying if they're not with their mom or dad because of being lost. Or, because of her age, I thought it wasn't a very good behavior of her to walk away from her parents in that building somewhere by sneaking away.
Well, I certainly don't profess to know anything for sure, but somehow I get the feeling one or both of the little girl's parents were close by- off camera.
Maybe they were close by but, if they were, they should have told her to step back a little and give the karate guy space since at 0:05 she looked like she was standing too close since it looked like she was standing right underneath him. Another reason why I think she should have stood back is that, as the karate guy was breaking the wood, pieces could have gotten in her eyes. (I used to be in Martial Arts, and the instructor once got wood pieces in someones eyes when breaking wood).
@MIKECNW You always say things like that. For example, there was a time you said to me on one YouTube comment "some people have too much time on their hands." I have read other YouTube comments that sound silly but, I don't comment to that person that their comment sounds silly or they're silly because, they're just giving their opinion on what they saw or heard and how they felt. (I was just giving my opinion on the little girl on this skit looking like she's all alone in this skit).
@afriendofbean But why is it a big deal that she's alone?
Another one of your posts express that it's strange she's without her parents. It's like your disturbed by it and it's just a film made for SS and she's just a young girls, probably a chid actor they hired for this pice.
I can't for the life of me figure why anyone looking over these classic SS films would even think anythinf of it.
@MIKECNW There's nothing wrong if I feel sad in my heart if I see a young child by themselves which can show that I'm a thoughtful person for seeing a child alone or lost (even if the directors and producers hired her for this skit I can still give my opinion on it). Even though it's police officers jobs, I'm sure they would usually feel sad to see a child lost or alone even if the child is not looking sad or scared. The police officers would still help to make sure the child is safe.
Thank you for posting this I remember this film clip like I watched yesterday. For years I used to think that this guy was Ed Parker Sr, the founder of American Kenpo and now it looks like I was wrong.
Does Sesame Workshop still show this clip in the newer shows ?
Thanks for posting this! I remember the 'hissing sound' that accompanied the man's hand when it came down on the boards as he counted them. I also remember the girl clapping at the end! Another great memory I haven't seen in nearly 30 years!
I wonder who that little girl is in this skit. I'm sure she's not that guy's daughter, any relative, or a friend since it looked like that guy didn't know her or say her name. It feels like she just ran away from her parents somewhere in the buiding and found that guy in a room doing karate moves to practice chopping boards and then she just went inside to go see him.
I did feel a little sorry for that girl that it looks like she is/was all alone and there was no grown up with her.
It's been years, but I remember this one.
I thought it was Ed Parker, but seeing it now, it obviously isn't.
Anyone know who this is?

At 0:10, did that little girl say "wow" or "how?"

A remake with Jackie Chan breaking boards with his foot sounds terrific.

There's a similar occurance in "The Karate Kid Part II": Ralph Macchio breaks through six blocks of ice.

ya those boards looked pretty fake maybe pre broken

I think this was staged. The little girl says "I'm impressed!" at the end. (What little kid knows what " being impressed" is? )

@afriendofbean Not to be rude, but don't you think that theory is a bit too in depth?

I remember seeing this skit when I was very young. It's great to see it again. That guy must've been very strong to chop all those boards.
