if oil prices risea farmer might do well to consider: not spending money on all those machines, fire all workers, and spend like 15 years trying to harvest 150000 acres as a one man man operation.

I had a little experience on one of these harvest runs and I would encourage any young guy with a spirit of adventure to try it out. Hats off to you... Regards, Bhupesh
So, if you see this, did you guys have any problems with the lug nuts breaking on your 2388's with those Hopper Toppers? We have a 2388 and we had it for about 3 years and it worked just fine, then we put a hopper topper on it and now we've had the whole rim fall right off twice. The one time was in rode gear and the dealer had it from that fall till harvest working on it it wrecked so much stuff. Please comment back thanks!
very very good video ........ its my dream to work 1 year in a so big country....... but i don´t know whether it is in fulfillment....... its a very bi dream from me ^^
Ok, Here is my situation, I am 34 married with a three year old daughter, and I have a decent job, but, I would give almost anything to be able to go and do this for a season. Call me crazy, but the people that still today go and follow the harvest across the USA are still American Heroes!! Seeing these machines and the people who make this all work is beyond impressive!! Here do I sign up??
Its people like you that help hinder the efforts to make agriculture a more environmentally friendly industry. Do you condemn advances in medicine from genetic engineering?
Your reasoning makes no sense, we evolve, NOT devolve.
To me genetic engineering is not a problem as long as you do not forget or lose the original subject. If you do not know where you come from or understand it, you will not know where yo are headed.
I am all for evolving, but in a way that will not ruin our origins. Can I explain it in words? Not really.
No, and i will continue to argue with anyone who bashes the way farmers operate today. I am from a farming family and we are very proud of what we do. It is insulting when our methods are labeled as harmful to the environment. It sickens me the way that the farming industry is viewed by some people
Did I say all farmers are like this? No. But some are. Do I bash the ones like you? No.
If you want to attack me, go right ahead. I don't care. I am just someone who doesn't want to forget where I came from. I want to live a simple life. Is that such a terrible thing?
I farm wheat, but I do not use powered equipment. I use a shovel, my hands, dryish soil, sickle, scythe, manure, and water when needed.
The difference here is that it is a lot more environmentally friendly. No chemicals are used. That includes swathers, tractors, and fertilizer. This way, the grain turns out more nutritious, delicious, and wholesome overall. This always makes sure there is no surplus.
I find that doing it this way makes one a lot healthier in all areas.
yea we could care less. do u not see the black smoke from the trucks? that is real diesel power. What u do isnt really farming, its more gardening. I'd like to see u grow a 1000 bushels like that with out the use of power equipment
Sigghh. You know nothing of the world's past, do you? Did farmers have that equipment 500 hundred years ago? No. At that time, it would have been easy to get a huge crop yield with dozens of workers.
What this equipment does is ruining the environment in more than one way.
Solechnaya. You are uneducated. There hasnt been a surplus of food grains in more than a decade. Cities kill the environment, farmers protect it. You fail to see that alot of the techniques and technology that we used today sustains the environment, and if we were to farm using your prehistoric methods on a large scale the quality of the land would rapidly decline. And it is scientifically proven there is no health benefits of eating organically grown food. Put down your joint and get learned.
Oh I am very educated. But you know why I don't mention all of that? Nobody listens.
The reason why I am like this is to encourage a way of life that prevents destruction of many kinds. This would be to live in smaller communities and use methods that do not kill off the environment.
I, and a few people I know, have become very ill off of chemically altered food. That includes preservation methods that we commonly see today.
But with organic food, I have known no one that has not benefited.

never mind texas come up to vermont were we farm hillsides and rocks and still ot to milk and do chores u ppl out west realy need to do sum real work.
man yall all need to go down to south texas and see how to operate a farm, I'm 13 and I've probably done more shit than all yall northerners put together in one harvest. Try a 2388, dragotec cornhead, JD 8320 with a J&M 850, and 1 month to get it all in, cuz its gonna rain. Then yall got yoselves a job.
Great Video!! Been on a harvest crew for the past 5 years from Sakatchewan, Canada and absolutley loved it. Have seen the Johnson crew a few times either on the road or in the field.
did yall do any cutting up at regent, nd in 2001. i think i have seen the ol brig up there and the johnson crew up there then. i was on a crew that had 2 gleaner r-72's at the time we where out of ringwood, ok butch still cuts up there
It always makes me laugh when im on harvest with our little small company and we are cutting a field with 1 or 2 combines max, then one of these big companies rolls up across the way with 5 or 6 combines and knocks it out in 30 minutes while we are there for 4 hours doing one the same size. Oh well I wouldnt trade it for the world either way
Yeah, I hate it being that way sometimes. You have two or three combines working on one field simultaneously. We are running old Gleaners and they have no air conditioning. It sucks when you get a call or someone walking up to your combine saying that you have one down. You then know you will spend another hour there unless they get it running again.
now thats the kind of stuff i need to hear. i am thinking about buying some old stuff cheep. can a person earn enough money with old equipment to make it worth th hassle?
Well, I'm not sure how much you can get old ones, nowdays. Even the old ones are pretty reliable. The people my family used to help cut, we would spend a week or two working on them before we start cutting. If you are a mechanic it won't cost you much, but if you have to have someone fix something, ofcoarse it won't be cheap. I didn't get to cut last year, and may not cut this year. Don't use custom cutters though, you will make nothing.
hey zzz what you talking about buying old stuff cheap like going harvesting if so maybe we sould get in touch and team up im wanting to buy a machine and go south to and try and make it work next year.
During wheat harvest this year i got some FastLine magizines to read while i was waiting on my semi to load and i noticed that you could get a 2000-2002 Case 2188/2388 for 100,000 and down and that included header. they had anywhere from 1000 hours to 2500 hours.
I'm 16 and as soon as i graduate im gonna find a job somewhere in the midwest harvesting. I live on a farm and i can run anything you stick me on that was made pre 2000, i dont see why i couldn't learn how to run the new ones... I've been driving straight trucks and standard tractor trailer trucks since i was 11 so i think i could run truck, combine, or drive grain cart for anyone.
Combines are difficult to drive, and it takes more than driving skill to operate one of them suckers out in the field. If you aren't careful you might cost your company, family hundreds of dollars, when you stick a header in the mud and ruin some wheat.
You sound just like me ihfarmer50. I'm 16 and can drive just about anything too. Fuck what "AirsoftJunkie" said. With a little bit of training you should be set to operate a combine.
it is worth every sec i was away from home for 6 months i wish i would have taken more pictures but now that i have this video i can still see and rememnber alot these guys if this is who u are going with are very good guys brent and shaun johnson i was with them in 97
The truck driver stands on top to give directions to the auger cart driver...They usually cant anything until the grain is overflowing...i drove the auger cart for 4 years..Its always a thrill
Go IH!!

its not wasted, they do that so tehy can keep the constant speeed working towards the middle of the field,
when all the combines reach the middle, 4 split off and have a corner each and work towards the outside fo the field cutting the left over bits,

man yall all need to go down to south texas and see how to operate a farm, I'm 13 and I've probably done more shit than all yall northerners put together in one harvest. Try a 2388, dragotec cornhead, JD 8320 with a J&M 850, and 1 month to get it all in, cuz its gonna rain. Then yall got yoselves a job.

It always makes me laugh when im on harvest with our little small company and we are cutting a field with 1 or 2 combines max, then one of these big companies rolls up across the way with 5 or 6 combines and knocks it out in 30 minutes while we are there for 4 hours doing one the same size. Oh well I wouldnt trade it for the world either way
blkwter 3 years ago
Yeah, I hate it being that way sometimes. You have two or three combines working on one field simultaneously. We are running old Gleaners and they have no air conditioning. It sucks when you get a call or someone walking up to your combine saying that you have one down. You then know you will spend another hour there unless they get it running again.

now thats the kind of stuff i need to hear. i am thinking about buying some old stuff cheep. can a person earn enough money with old equipment to make it worth th hassle?
zzzonezz 3 years ago

During wheat harvest this year i got some FastLine magizines to read while i was waiting on my semi to load and i noticed that you could get a 2000-2002 Case 2188/2388 for 100,000 and down and that included header. they had anywhere from 1000 hours to 2500 hours.
sammx137 3 years ago
I'm 16 and as soon as i graduate im gonna find a job somewhere in the midwest harvesting. I live on a farm and i can run anything you stick me on that was made pre 2000, i dont see why i couldn't learn how to run the new ones... I've been driving straight trucks and standard tractor trailer trucks since i was 11 so i think i could run truck, combine, or drive grain cart for anyone.
ihfarmer50 3 years ago
Combines are difficult to drive, and it takes more than driving skill to operate one of them suckers out in the field. If you aren't careful you might cost your company, family hundreds of dollars, when you stick a header in the mud and ruin some wheat.
AirsoftJunkie 3 years ago
You sound just like me ihfarmer50. I'm 16 and can drive just about anything too. Fuck what "AirsoftJunkie" said. With a little bit of training you should be set to operate a combine.

Do you mean Craig Morgan's - "International Harvester"...?
Or, do you mean the theme music from the Movie 'Jurasic Park'..?
Nice touch, BTW, putting the dinosaur music in there.
Great video!
