I find it helps to act out a pose if you are not working from a model. If the character is using her mobile phone the pose makes sense, but I think you intend her to be resting her head on her hand. With her body that upright, her elbow would be slightly off the table to bring her hand that far up her face - so either she needs to slump more, or have her chin on her palm.
When I select things in Gimp and try to move them, it only moves the layer, not the selection. Can you explain that? :(
