We should just drop all the un wanted horses off in the peoples yards that think that horses should not be killed. It's better than standing in someone back yard and straving to death. They all can't be saved and now horses that are sick or hurt, take the place of a horse that could have made a differnce in someones life.

I'm not trying to say anything bad here, I completely disagree with slaughter, and people should be aware of the cruelty that goes through factories. The coloured horses go for food and the greys go for dog food because greys/white horses are prone to cancers. I was recently driving from Kansas (where I live) to Oklahoma (for a horse show). When we were driving we saw 2 slaughter trucks with Horses in them. The second I saw them I started balling!!!! My mom and I were talking about it and we decided to put a fence around our farm we have and rescue 10-30 horses. I am only allowed to get the free ones or up to $100.00 This is 100% wrong! I don't agree with the way it was handled at all. There should be better way at putting down a horse. When I was growing up, I had several horses. When they got to old, We would have them put down, and buried on our place. Now People who have had horses for a while and it is now costing too much, people try to sell or give away. They can't and with no slaughter practices in many states. Horses are shipped to canada or Mexico with no food or water. think that maybe that should be changed>

they get led up a chute into a "knocking box" (a stall with a swinging wall), then stunned with a captive bolt pistol. once they're unconscious they get stuck in the jugular/ carotid and bleed out. same basic principle as cows. personally, I don't think a horse should be subjected to that, they are smart enough to know what's coming. chemical euthanasia, on the other hand, is perfectly acceptable in my mind.

Horse slaughter is not the problem, it is the inhumane conditions in the transport process, in the feedlot and in the "processing facility" Horse butchers should have to kill the animals at the auction yard, humanely, and then haul them in a refrigerated truck to the processing facility. Not only would that be more humane but there would be no market for skinny, neglected horses-- so at least unwanted horses might get fed!

The coloured horses go for food and the greys go for dog food because greys/white horses are prone to cancers. I was recently driving from Kansas (where I live) to Oklahoma (for a horse show). When we were driving we saw 2 slaughter trucks with Horses in them. The second I saw them I started balling!!!! I don't agree with the way it was handled at all. There should be better way at putting down a horse. When I was growing up, I had several horses. When they got to old, We would have them put down, and buried on our place. Now People who have had horses for a while and it is now costing too much, people try to sell or give away. They can't and with no slaughter practices in many states. Horses are shipped to canada or Mexico with no food or water. think that maybe that should be changed>

The true issue is not slaughter, but the poor education people receive before they buy their little girl a horse, or before they breed that there spotted stallion to that big'ol mare over yonder. not correct at all.
they get led up a chute into a "knocking box" (a stall with a swinging wall), then stunned with a captive bolt pistol. once they're unconscious they get stuck in the jugular/ carotid and bleed out. same basic principle as cows. personally, I don't think a horse should be subjected to that, they are smart enough to know what's coming. chemical euthanasia, on the other hand, is perfectly acceptable in my mind.

Horse slaughter is not the problem, it is the inhumane conditions in the transport process, in the feedlot and in the "processing facility" Horse butchers should have to kill the animals at the auction yard, humanely, and then haul them in a refrigerated truck to the processing facility. Not only would that be more humane but there would be no market for skinny, neglected horses-- so at least unwanted horses might get fed!
